Quarry Manager – Rinker - 2005
For a period of 6 months I performed the duties of the Quarry Manager - North West Area for Rinker whilst they sourced a permanent Quarry manager.
Responsibilities:
o Safety management – Ensuring compliance of the companies safety plans, and Mines Department regulations o Quality management - Ensuring compliance of the companies quality plans, and quarry products o Maintenance management of crushing and mobile plant – Implementing a planned maintenance program, and managing major repairs in a cost-effective manner o Implementation of a system to ensure the availability of critical parts o Development and training of staff.

On this project I provided relief management to a drill and blast contractor at a medium size multiple open cut gold mining operation.

o Co ordination of drilling and shot firing teams o Blast design and hands on shot firing o Liaise with the principles mining and geology staff to ensure production and quality targets were met o Implementation of systems to comply with statutory requirements.
Quarry Manager - BGC Crushing - 2001
I was contracted to assist in setting up a hard rock quarry operation in Karratha WA, and hand over when fully operational to specified time and operational parameters.
Responsibilities:
o Assisting with the mobilization, construction and commissioning of a aggregate crushing and screening plant o Ensuring compliance with product specifications o Development of a hard rock quarry faces with an ongoing quarry development plan o Implementation of processes and procedures to achieve compliance with quality and statutory requirements.
Crushing Superintendent - BGC Crushing - 2001
I was responsible for the production of rock fill material for the foundation of Woodside Petroleum's fourth LNG production train In Dampier WA. This was a 24-hour operation utilizing 3 crushing plants. At the time of my appointment the production of foundation material was behind schedule and in danger of delaying the next phase of the LNG project.
My role was to complete the production in the shortest possible time. Using my experience and skills, I was able to complete the project ahead of schedule.
Responsibilities:
o Developing and implementation of production targets o Implementation of a planned maintenance system o Modifications to crushing plant to improve production performance o Ensuring all production conformed to quality specifications o Ensuring compliance with Woodside safety procedures
Patrolman / Combat Clerk - Australian Army - 2000 to 2001
During this period I accepted a full time service contract with the Australian Army Pilbara Regiment at the Harold E Holt Communications base at Exmouth Western Australia.
The base is one of Australia's key defence facilities, and is also 2 Squadron headquarters for the Pilbara Regiment. The Regiment provides land and sea surveillance in the north of Australia, and the protection of vital assets and infrastructure in the region.
On the completion of the contract I received the Commanding Officers certificate of recognition for services to the Regiment.
Responsibilities:
o Responsible for the management of the 2 Squadron headquarters administration office.
o Timely and accurate management of incoming and outgoing information at the Squadron Headquarters up to classified security level "secret".
o Administration of the squadron's 60 regional force surveillance troops o Presenting training lessons o Providing signals, driving, and water operations support for training courses o Participating in on shore and off shore operational surveillance patrols.
Quarry Manager - CSR - 1993 to 2000
In this position I was profit responsible for the CSR Readymix quarry operations in the North West of Western Australia. The company operates major regional hard rock quarries in Dampier, Port Hedland and Newman, in addition to many small sand-mining operations throughout the Pilbara and Kimberly region. The position required the periodic mobilisation, construction, and commissioning of crushing and screening plants around the region.
Responsibilities:
o Safety management - Implementing and monitoring of the companies safety plans, and Mines Department regulations o Quality management - Implementing and auditing of the companies and Standards Associations quality systems and plans o Maintenance management of crushing and mobile plant – Implementing planned maintenance programs, and managing major repairs in a cost-effective manner o Pricing of tenders. The quarry operations were driven by major resource projects, and accurate pricing of tenders enabled the company to win the majority of major projects in the area during this time o Preparation of capital expenditure proposals, and managing of approved capital projects o Preparation and managing of annual and monthly budgets o Development and training of staff. During this period I appointed three supervisors and assisted their development to Quarry Manager level o Developing and ensuring production targets were achieved on time, on budget, and safely o Short and long term quarry development planning o Ensuring compliance with statutory regulations.

During this period I provided support to the mobile crushing Operations Manager in head office, and also to Quarry Managers in the field. It was during this time that I attended a CSR six-week Quarry Managers training program in Sydney and Melbourne, and also gained my Quarry Managers certificate from the Department of Minerals and Energy.
Responsibilities:
o Relieving Quarry Managers during their leave at various mobile crushing projects in Western Australia o Assisting in the preparation of tenders in head office o Providing technical support to quarry managers o Team facilitator for quarry improvement projects o Assisting in crushing plant mobilisation and demobilization.
Quality Control Technician - CSR Mobile Crushing -1991 to 1992
At this time I was employed at various project quarries and concrete plants in WA, providing quality and technical related support to quarry and concrete plant managers.
Responsibilities:
o Managing field laboratories to NATA standards o Issuing of NATA endorsed testing certificates for soils, aggregate, rocks, and concrete products o Maintaining quality assurance plans for major contracts o Quality control testing of aggregates, rock armour, and concrete for supply contracts o Liaison with customers on quality related issues o Deputising for quarry managers and concrete plant managers in their absence o Training personnel in the testing of raw materials and concrete products o Operation of crushing and mobile plant as required o Blast design and shot firing o Electrical repairs and maintenance.
Senior Survey Technician - Wiluna Gold Mine -1990 to 1992
During this period I worked on a fly in/fly out basis at a major gold mining operation in WA that was open cut mining over old underground workings. This method of mining presented some challenging operational and safety considerations.

o All survey control, mark up, and pick-ups in multiple open cut mine environment o Volume surveys for contract payment and computer generation of plans (SURPAC Software)
o Co-ordination and interpretation of probe drilling program to identify old underground workings o Deputising in the Chief Mine Surveyor's rostered absence o Mines rescue team member o Deputising in the Mines Rescue Team Leaders rostered absence o President of social club.
Assistant Mine Surveyor - North Flinders Mines – 1987 to 1990
At this time I was employed on a fly in/fly out basis at a major open cut and underground gold mining operation, North West of Alice Springs. Starting as a Surveyors Assistant, I progressed to Survey Technician in 1988, and then to Assistant Mine Surveyor in 1989.

Senior Soils Technician - Dames and Moore Consulting Engineers – 1985 to 1987
During this period I gained experience in the civil engineering field providing geo technical testing and support to Engineers and Geologists on major civil engineering projects. Initially employed as a Laboratory Assistant, I progressed to Senior Technician in 1996.
In this capacity I was responsible for leading of a small team of Soils Technicians, and the timely processing of samples through to generation of test certificates. It was during this time that I gained qualifications as a NATA signatory.

During this period I was employed at a small gold mining and process plant and gained experience operating front end loaders, crushing plant, and gold treatment plant. I also performed electrical repairs. I was appointed leading hand of the crushing plant.
