Senior Process Engineer

- Senior Plant Metallurgist working for Cliffs Mining Services Co. assigned to Wabush Mines (Scully Mine) Concentrator. Responsible for Metallurgical operations including the development of PI System in the Plant and Mine.
- Project Manager on High Tension Automation Project to improve final plant iron concentrating process and increase recovery.
- Coordinate special plant sampling schedules that better define the ore types and process conditions that are needed to optimize recovery and throughputs.
- Assigned to Mill Throughput and Recovery Optimization project that targets the increased and optimized performance in the autogenous grinding mills.
Metallurgical Engineer
Empire Mine, P.O. Box 38 Palmer, MI 49871 (November 1997 to June 2002, November 2004 to March 2005)
- Responsible for plant operations with emphasis in grinding area, which includes primary autogenous mills and secondary pebble mills in closed circuit with cyclones and screens. Also involved with the concentrator section of the flowsheet, which includes hydro-cyclones, magnetic separators, gravity separation and flotation. Concentrator Section also includes tailings disposal. Involved with "metallurgical accounting", which balances the crude ore and final product reconciliation.
- Develop alternative methods of comminution and concentration of ores. Provide technical support and metallurgical advice on new process equipment installations.
Metallurgical Engineer/SPC Co-ordinator
Wabush Mines, P.O. Box 3000 Wabush, NL, A0R 1B0 (June 1989 to November, 1997)
- Responsible for testing new equipment that may replace or supplement existing plant flowsheet. Sampling requirements and the effect on current plant equipment as well as integration into the current process control system are all factors considered during testwork.
- Team member in the modernization of the plant including Mill Grind Control, High Tension Automation, DCS and Laboratory Information Management Systems.
- Responsible for the preparation of production reports regarding product quality and production targets. Regularly monitor the laboratory assay work sheets used in the preparation of production reports to ensure accuracy.
- Trained in Expert System programming and System Operator's environment relating to the Grind Control Program, DCS and Novell Network in the plant.
- Group leader of a team that is implementing a new laboratory assay and information management system that will better service the needs of the production process. New system will communicate directly with the existing DCS and Novell network so that information is online and up to date. Lab equipment includes X-Ray spectrometer, automatic pulveriser and new fused bead preparation equipment.
- Responsible for the coordination of regular plant sampling as required by the production process. The information from this sampling is used in deciding to make changes in the plant affecting product grade and/or production rates.
- Coordinate laboratory work requirements for the Mine, Ore Dressing, Environmental, Pellet Plant and Steel Mills (Owners). This includes manpower scheduling, new equipment requirements, reporting methods and ensuring that relevant information is received from the lab.

I have excellent working knowledge of PC's and many software packages, strong knowledge of PI database software, am familiar with working on DOS and Windows Operating Systems for PC's. Previous position plant ran on a Foxboro DCS and Comdale Expert System. This was converted to full PLC control systems with 90% of the Plant Operation controlled from RSView Stations. From dealing with the LIMS and related areas I am aware of what the various systems are capable of doing and what they need from each other in order to perform those functions. I am also familiar with some PLC and PID controller programming and operation.
Properties I have worked at have used JD Edwards, MIMS and Ellipse Enterprise Software packages.
Basic French language skills.
