Professional Experience
Geotechnical Engineering
Responsibilities included directing geotechnical and foundation investigations and preparing geotechnical engineering reports for various types of projects. Experienced in engineering analysis for spread footings, drilled shafts, driven piles and floating raft foundations. Project list includes light to heavy commercial buildings, public and industrial buildings and structures, wind turbines, communications towers, water and fuel tanks, refinery facilities, residences, retaining walls, pavement thickness design, airport apron and runways. Also performed borrow source evaluation for small to large cut to fill earthworks projects, and slope stability studies for various types of structures.

Mining
Design
Design engineer for more than 10 million square feet of synthetically lined heap leach pad and tailings facility expansions. Preliminary design work for these projects included performing geotechnical investigations, stability analysis and potential borrow area investigations. Final design work included preparation of construction drawings, engineering design reports and technical specifications. Generally, the entire design package was submitted to State and Regulatory agencies for permitting and approval.

Additional aspects of the design included preparation of an engineer's construction cost estimate and associated bid documents, conducting pre-bid meetings and liaison with State and Regulatory agencies through the permitting and approval process.

In addition to preparing designs for heap leach pads, other significant designs for mining facilities included geosynthetically lined stormwater/process ponds, gravity fed HDPE waste disposal pipelines, stormwater diversion channels and a rehabilitation of an existing asphalt surfaced reusable heap leach pad.

Construction
Resident engineer for more than 25 million square feet of synthetically lined heap leach pad and tailings facility construction, stormwater diversion and process water channel construction, HDPE pipeline construction as well as several other projects. Activities included all works related to construction, including earthworks, synthetic liner placement, concrete placement and HDPE piping systems. Responsibilities to the project included managing quality assurance/quality control activities for all aspects of construction, providing engineering design recommendations and interpretations, conducting weekly progress meetings and general construction observation to determine possible improvements to the design and cost or time savings. Upon completion of a project, a Record of Construction report was typically prepared documenting the construction activities and submitted to State and Regulatory agencies for approval.

Project/Construction Management
Project manager for a variety of mining projects including: tailings dam construction, crushing plant erection and flotation plant erection. Managed design engineers, earthworks contractors, mechanical contractors, EPCM contractors and QA/QC contractors. Prepared, submitted and reviewed bid packages and have awarded contracts. * Coeur d'Alene Mines, Kensington Project, Alaska. Project Manager/Construction Manager. Managed consultants in preparation of design drawings and project specifications for construction of a Tailings Treatment Facility, tailings delivery pipeline, reclaim water pipeline, water treatment plant, and all other appurtenances related to construction. Prepared bid packages for all aspects of project. Reviewed bid packages, negotiated contracts and awarded contracts for all aspects of the project. Managed a project team during design and construction which consisted of construction managers, project superintendents, safety supervisors and design engineers. Total project value ~$70 million USD.

* Coeur d'Alene Mines, Palmarejo Project, Mexico. Project Engineer. Designed mine haul roads, surface drainage controls and also created project schedules both for construction and for future planned work.

* Coeur d'Alene Mines, Mina Martha Project, Argentina. Construction Manager for Tailings Storage Facility, crushing and milling plant and flotation plant at the Mina Martha mine. Responsibilities included management of EPCM contractor, earthworks contractor, mechanical contractor, QA/QC contractor and design engineer. Successfully negotiated contract closeouts with all parties involved. Total project value ~$15 million USD.

* Confidential Client, Bolivia. Performed geotechnical and site investigation for proposed 25 M tonne tailings storage facility.

* Florida Power and Light, Abilene, Texas. Performed geotechnical site investigation for 150 wind turbines. Subsurface conditions consisted of caliche overlying weathered to durable limestone. Upon completion of the site investigation, monitored foundation excavation and construction, which included: placement of structural fill and backfill, rebar inspection, concrete placement and base grouting. Some voids were encountered in the limestone formation, which required pressure grouting prior to foundation construction.

* Various Tailings Storage Facility design projects - Accra, Ghana. Design services included water balance analysis, design drawing preparation, specification preparation, bid document preparation and design report preparation. Additional responsibilities included resident engineering services and dam safety inspections.

* Newmont Gold Company, Cerro Yanacocha Stage 5 Heap Leach Pad. Provided resident engineering, design engineering and construction management services for the 500,000 square meter, synthetic lined heap leach pad expansion. The leach pad construction involved removal of over 500,000 cubic meters of unsuitable material and placement of 300,000 cubic meters of controlled fill. The leach pad consisted of compacted subgrade overlain by a low permeability soil liner, covered with HDPE lining and a drainage system on the HDPE liner consisting of various sizes of underdrain pipes embedded within a permeable drainage blanket. Responsibilities on the project included preparing design changes in the field when necessary, general overall observation of the construction progress to determine potential methods for improved design and cost savings.

* Newmont Gold Company, South Area Operations, Phase V, Non-Property Heap Leach Pad, Construction. Provided resident engineering services for the 1.2 million square foot, synthetic lined heap leach pad expansion, 30 million gallon stormwater pond and diversion channels. The leach pad construction consisted of compacted subgrade overlain by a low permeability soil liner, covered with HDPE lining and a drainage system on the HDPE liner consisting of various sizes of underdrain pipes embedded within a permeable drainage blanket. The storm pond consisted of cut and fill operations to complete embankment and basin construction with an HDPE liner on the completed surface. Responsibilities on the project included managing quality assurance/quality control activities for the earthwork, the HDPE liner, geotextile and geonet installation and the placement of the HDPE and CPT piping. Additional responsibilities included preparation of design changes when necessary and preparation of a Record of Construction report for submittal to State and Regulatory agencies.

* Newmont Gold Company, North Area Operations, Phase VI Construction. Provided resident engineering services for the 4.5 million square foot, synthetic lined heap leach pad expansion and diversion channels. The leach pad construction consisted of compacted subgrade overlain by a low permeable soil liner, covered with HDPE lining and a drainage system on the HDPE liner consisting of various size underdrain pipes embedded within a permeable drainage blanket. As part of the expansion, one deep monitoring well was abandoned and a replacement installed. Three diversion channels were constructed to the south and east of the expansion to divert stormwater away from the leach pad. Responsibilities to the project included managing quality assurance/quality control activities for the earthwork, the HDPE liner, geotextile and geonet installation and the placement of the HDPE and CPT piping. Additional responsibilities included preparation of design changes when necessary and a Record of Construction report for submittal to State and Regulatory agencies.

* Round Mountain Gold Corporation, West Dedicated Leach Pad, Phase 2 Construction. Provided project engineering and resident engineering services for a 6 million square foot heap leach pad, two 20-million gallon solution storage ponds, a stormwater/sediment retention pond and a buried solution channel. Responsibilities to the design included assisting in the preparation of an engineer's construction cost estimate, bid documents, construction plans and specifications. Responsibilities to construction of the project included managing quality assurance/quality control activities for earthwork, concrete, HDPE liner, geotextile and geonet installation and placement of HDPE and CPT piping. Additional responsibilities included preparation of design changes when necessary and preparation of a Record of Construction report for submittal to State and Regulatory agencies.

* Round Mountain Gold Corporation, Reusable Leach Pad Design and Construction. The project consisted of repairing the pavement section on a portion of the reusable asphalt leach pad. Work included preparation of construction drawings and specifications, preparation of an engineer's construction cost estimate and quality assurance testing during placement of over 10,000 tons of bituminous mixture. Following construction, a Record of Construction report was prepared for submittal to State and Regulatory agencies.

* Round Mountain Gold Corporation, Tailings Impoundment Facility, Cell 1, Stage 1 Design and Construction. Provided engineering services for a 1.5 million square foot basin expansion. Responsibilities included preparing construction drawings and specifications, preparing an engineer's construction cost estimate, general oversight of quality assurance activities during construction and preparation of a Record of Construction report for submittal to State and Regulatory agencies.

* Newmont Gold Company, South Area Operations, ROTP Secondary Containment Redesign and Construction. The project involved replacing existing single wall piping within the ROTP facility with pre-fabricated double-wall HDPE piping. Work consisted of preparing construction drawings and specifications, bid documents and an engineer's construction cost estimate. Upon completion of construction, a Record of Construction report was prepared for submittal to State and Regulatory agencies.

* Round Mountain Gold Corporation, West Dedicated Leach Pad, Phase 3 Design. Project engineer in charge for design of a 5.5 million square foot synthetic lined heap leach pad and associated 20 million gallon event pond. Work on the project included performing stability analysis, performing a geotechnical investigation, identifying borrow sources of suitable material for construction, preparation of construction drawings and specifications and preparation of a final design report for submittal to State and Regulatory agencies for permitting. Additional responsibilities included preparation of an engineer's construction cost estimate and bid documents, conducting pre-bid meetings with contractors and liaison with State and Regulatory agencies.

Work on construction consisted of providing resident engineering services, which included managing quality assurance/quality control activities for earthwork, HDPE liner installation, placement of HDPE and CPT piping and installation of piezometer cable and readout stands. Additional work included preparation of a Record of Construction report for submittal to State and Regulatory agencies.

Airports

* Lander County, Nevada, Austin Airport, pavement investigation. Performed geotechnical investigation for apron and taxiway reconstruction. This work involved performing a field investigation, completing laboratory testing and preparing an engineering report with pavement recommendations based on guidelines presented in FAA Circular 150/5320-6D.

* Lander County, Nevada, Battle Mountain Airport. Performed geotechnical investigation for airport apron rehabilitation. Investigation involved performing a field investigation, completing laboratory testing and preparation of an engineering report with pavement recommendations based on guidelines presented by FAA Circular 150/5320-6D. Additional work at this airport included providing resident engineering services for rehabilitation of the apron. This work involved attending pre-bid and pre-construction meetings, reviewing submittals, preparing weekly and daily reports for submittal to the FAA, managing quality assurance activities, specification interpretation, managing subcontractors, reviewing and preparing pay requests and performing final punch list inspections.

* Stanford Airport, Stanford, Montana. Work on the project consisted of performing a geotechnical investigation on the main runway for rehabilitation/reconstruction. Alternatives investigated included 1) total reconstruction of the runway, 2) partial reconstruction of the runway, including milling off the existing asphalt and utilizing the material as base course overlain by asphalt surfacing, 3) asphalt overlay of the existing runway following extensive patch and seal repairs.

* Logan International Airport, Billings, Montana, Apron Reconstruction. Responsibilities on the project included performing quality assurance testing of concrete during reconstruction of a portion of the main apron. Work on the project consisted of casting concrete cylinders and beams for compressive and flexural strength testing as well as performing slump and air testing of concrete during placement.

Deep Foundations

* Saint Vincents Hospital Expansion, Billings, Montana. Provided geotechnical engineering analysis for the expansion. Bedrock in the expansion area ranged in depth from approximately 7 feet to 25 feet and the overburden soils consisted of soft clays and compressible sands. Steel H-piles were used to support the expansion. Pile driving was monitored to insure the steel piles were driven to the appropriate depth and that they were not overstressed during driving.

* Retail development, Billings, Montana. Provided geotechnical engineering analysis and construction monitoring for driven piles installed for a retail development constructed in Billings, Montana. The project was constructed on an abandoned gravel pit which had been backfilled with various types of construction debris, including concrete. The buildings structural loads as well as the floor system were supported by steel H-piles driven through the debris and into the underlying bedrock.

* Northern Rockies Cancer Center Expansion, Billings, Montana. Responsibilities on the project included inspection of the installation of drilled shafts. Specific tasks included inspection to insure that shafts were installed to their appropriate depth, on the appropriate bearing stratum in addition to control testing of concrete as it was placed into the drilled shaft.
