Modeling of Liquefaction-Induced Lateral Spread and Its Application 12/2004 - 7/2007
♦ Supported by UDOT and University of Utah Civil Department, Salt Lake City, Utah. Non-coupled numerical procedure was developed using the scheme of pore water generation-induced shear modulus degradation and shear strength degradation during earthquake cyclic motion. The designed FLAC model procedure was calibrated and successfully predicted the liquefaction-induced lateral spread and ground response for Wildlife and Kobe sites. Deconvolution technique was developed and executed with regard to soil profile using program PROSHAKE. Sixteen well-documented case histories were reviewed and modeled using the calibrated model procedure and the dynamic residual strength ratios were back calculated by matching with recorded lateral spread or Bartlett's model prediction. The regression equation to express the dynamic residual strength relationship is provided.
Strong Ground Motion and Deformation Modeling of Altinova Shipyard Facility 12/2004 - 7/2007
♦ Supported by Turkey Naval Facility, Turkey., Use finite difference software, FLAC, to investigate the deformation of shipyard caused by strong motion before and after soil improvement, time histories were used and deconvolution technique was developed and executed with regard to soil profile. Recommendation on ground improvement was given based on the prediction of ground deformation.
