I have been in the ferrous metals industry since 1988 and have had operational experience from production engineer to production superintendant. During this stage of my career I had extensive operational responsibility ranging from closed submerged arc ferrochrome furnaces, ferrosilicon furnaces, pelletizing plants and kilns as well as raw material purchasing and final product handling.
The last 10 years I spent at senior and executive management level where I was firstly responsible as COO for the project, commissioning and operation of Sinosteel's new ASA Metals ferrochrome smelted, which was a green fields project and became the cheapest ferrochrome producer in South Africa.
In 2003 I was head hunted to start International Ferrometals (SA) (Pty) Ltd. I was instrumental to set up the company structure and was responsible for the approval of the Environmental Impact Assessment, the Environmental Management Program, and the Mining License as well as a bank loan of over R 700 million. During this time I was heading the organisation in South Africa and was responsible for the selection and appointment of the management team and the commissioning of the mine and smelter of this R 1,5 billion project. This project was brought online within the project timetable and within the original budget.(Two months earlier and R100 million saving). After commissioning I became responsible for the operation of the mine and smelter.
I was also instrumental to list the company on AIM and in doing so raised £ 99 million. I was also involved to move the company to the Main LSE Board and FTSE 250 and in doing so raised an additional £ 80. I attended all the road shows up till this period of the company's development.
I was also responsible for the marketing of ferrochrome through agents in Europe and Asia.

REASON FOR RESIGNATION: Pursue own interest in private sector, tendering on government tenders and projects for two years.

COMPANY: CMI (Pty) Ltd (1995 – 1998) (Currently Xstrata)

OCCUPATION: Production Superintendant to Plant Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Accountable for the production on the pelletising and kilns and later responsible for production and maintenance of North Plant furnaces.
Reports first to Plant Manager and then to Works Manager.

REASON FOR RESIGNATION: Head hunted by ASA Metals/Sinosteel to start ASA Metals furnaces.

COMPANY: ASA Metals (Pty) Ltd (1998 – 2003) (Sinosteel)

OCCUPATION: General Manager/COO

RESPONSIBILITIES: Accountable for the project, commissioning and operation of Sinosteel's first investment in South Africa. Manpower accountability, total of 600 staff. Dilokong Chrome Mine was also under my control.
Reports to CEO/MD.

ACHIEVEMENTS: Start a green field project to become the cheapest producer ferrochrome producer in South Africa.
As General Manager and COO, I was responsible to increase the mine's productivity from 40 tons per man to 94 tons per man, an increase of 123%.
