* Field Management - Field Manager for multi-million dollar project with a 10-person crew in remote Alaska. Assistant Field Manager for 20-million dollar project with a 30-person crew in Oklahoma. Co-project manager for 5-million dollar concurrent operation and maintenance of seven soil vapor remediation systems. Field Manager for remediation system rebuild task.
* Geology and Field Sampling - Drilled and installed hundreds of borings and monitoring wells, SVE extraction wells, triple-completion vapor wells; collected soil, groundwater, soil-vapor and remediation system samples, installed/retrieved passive soil gas probes for environmental and oil/gas exploration geochemistry surveys; logged core and collected coal samples for coal-bed methane exploration; and identified and mapped radioactive mill tailings in the field.
* Remediation System Operation and Maintenance - Installed, operated and maintained five PADRE (Purus adsorb/desorb resin extraction) soil vapor remediation systems, and two carbon vapor treatment remediation systems concurrently. Operated and maintained two groundwater pump and treat systems. Co-authored operations manual for PADRE systems and trained facility personnel to continue operating systems.
* Communication – Liaison to Air Force Base Operations and Security Forces to coordinate project work within restricted access areas including Flight Line and Redline Zones (where lethal force is authorized) for 30+ person crew. Logistics/project coordinator for field work conducted at multiple remote facilities. Liaison to facility personnel at a politically-charged facility; developed good working relationships. Served as on-site contact with facility managers, clients, and regulatory representatives.
* Health & Safety – Site Health and Safety Officer for three multi-million dollar projects. H&S Officer at urban facilities and facilities in remote Alaska, where Mr. O'Rourke was the only field team member authorized to carry a gun for protection of the field staff in an area where grizzly and black bears were spotted during the sampling event.
* Data Interpretation – Coalesced, interpreted and summarized multi-year, multi-contractor, multi-source-site data and report preparation task for multi-million dollar project. Reviewed hundreds of boring logs for consistency and accuracy.

PROJECT GEOLOGIST January 1996 - November 2008
EARTH TECH AECOM Grand Junction, Colorado
* U.S. Air Force - Field Manager for three multi-million dollar projects for the U.S. Air Force in Arizona, Alaska and Oklahoma. Managed soil and groundwater remedial investigations and installed, operated and maintained seven remediation systems. Specific activities included drilling of boreholes and installation of groundwater monitoring wells and multiple completion vapor extraction wells. Drilling methods included hollow stem auger, air and mud rotary, sonic, and direct-push. Reviewed hundreds of borehole logs. Groundwater sampling included managing multiple field teams sampling as many as 360 groundwater monitoring wells per event. Groundwater sampling techniques included micro-purge low-flow sampling utilizing bladder pumps; Grundfos pumps; peristaltic pumps; and bailers. Provided oversight of geophysical investigations using magnetometer, ground-penetrating radar and seismic reflection methods. Operated five resin-bed technology and two granular activated carbon vapor extraction remediation systems and co-authored O&M manuals and trained facility personnel to continue operation of the systems. Coordinated work activities with base/facility personnel to allow work to proceed without interruption to either the project or the client's operations. Functioned as Site Health and Safety Officer at each site. Additional Air Force work included RCRA remedial investigations/feasibility studies at Air Force Bases in Cheyenne, Wyoming and Dayton, Ohio, and a Brownfield Phase II investigation at a former Air Force Plant in Columbus, Ohio.
* ConocoPhillips Golden Eagle Refinery, Martinez, California - Reviewed hundreds of borehole logs for accuracy and adherence to ASTM and USCS guidelines. Correlated lithologies based on borehole log descriptions to assist in the creation of a site wide geologic map. Assisted with uploading of site geologic data to the State of California Geotracker database.
* Commercial Soft Drink Distributor, Colorado – Performed site investigation related to a leaking fuel dispenser line. Conducted quarterly groundwater sampling events and created reports for Colorado Oil and Public Safety. Successfully assisted client with Colorado Leaking Underground Storage Tank Reimbursement Fund application process. Client was subsequently reimbursed for first phase of cleanup.
CONTRACT GEOLOGIST May 1994 - December 1995
Northeast Research Institute Lakewood, Colorado
* Teikoku Oil Corporation, Valle de la Pascua, Venezuela – Conducted large scale soil-gas geochemical survey to provide data to be used for reworking an old oil field. Work included installation and retrieval of thousands of passive soil gas probes on a large scale grid system in the backcountry of Venezuela. Sample location coordinates were predetermined and were located in the field with the use of field maps, brunton compass and Global Positioning System (GPS) instruments. Additional oil exploration activities for two other clients using similar techniques were performed near Booker, Texas and Lake Charles, Louisiana.
* Various Commercial/Government Clients, United States and Puerto Rico – Completed soil gas geochemical surveys for various manufacturing and chemical facilities and the Lakehurst Naval Air Warfare Center, Lakehurst, New Jersey. Passive soil gas surveys were used to help determine the lateral extent of petroleum fuel and solvent contamination in soil and groundwater.
ASSOCIATE GEOLOGIST July 1992 - March 1994
RESNA Industries, Inc. Chandler, Arizona
* Various Clients - Conducted remedial investigations at petroleum hydrocarbon and solvent sites, including boring and monitor well installations. Prepared Phase I and II reports and correspondence with regulatory agencies. Performed project management tasks including insuring regulatory compliance for contaminated sites, acting as client point-of-contact, resolving items of client concern, scheduling sampling events, procuring equipment and allocating budgeted funds. Operated and maintained vapor extraction systems and air stripper remediation systems.

* Various Clients – Implemented hazardous waste investigations throughout the United States. Installed groundwater monitoring wells, conducted aquifer characterization tests, subsurface soil investigations, hazardous waste/wastewater sampling, soil gas surveys, and UST excavations and removal. Ensured compliance with all state and local regulations; coordinated and conducted quarterly groundwater monitoring programs; and prepared reports. Limited experience with Level B personal protective equipment used during a pesticide investigation.

Chem-Nuclear Geotech Grand Junction, Colorado
* Performed property assessments under the Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action Project (UMTRA). Field identified and mapped radioactive mill tailings, collected analytical soil samples, operated surface/downhole scintillometers and hand/power augers, calibrated field equipment, reviewed field data, and prepared reports.
CONTRACT GEOLOGIST June 1989 - September 1989
Raven Ridge Resources Grand Junction, Colorado
* Performed coal-bed methane exploration activities in the Black Warrior Basin of Alabama. Drilling activities included the use of a wireline-coring rig to depths exceeding 6000 feet bgs. Coreholes were logged and coal-seam samples were extracted and placed in desorption canisters and monitored for methane production.
