Director Of Pipeline Integrity Services – Projects

Upon completing my assignment in the joint venture (below), I accepted a position with an emerging department of the enterprise corporation. Formed in 2002, the Pipeline Management Group (PMG) provides cleaning, inline inspection and integrity management program assessments related to pipeline integrity.

I have global responsibility for business development, process management, marketing and pricing as these relate to integrated product line projects.

2003 – 2005
Director Of Global Operations

Upon completion of the business plan and master formation agreement, I accepted a position to serve on the leadership team of this stand-alone joint venture.

I enjoyed the full P&L responsibility and growth of the business. With over 80% of sales generated in the Eastern Hemisphere, the ability to resolve agency and parental support interfaces provided some unique challenges.

The experience of the JV allowed me to prove myself in a small business environment. Additional selected contributions:
- ISO 9001:2000 accreditation achieved in 2003
- Employee succession and education services plans
- Incentive compensation programs
- Formal business interfaces and support agreements with parents and third-party agencies
- Acquisition of a UK based supplier to support manufacturing operations, secure the supply chain and lower product cost

The JV continues growth worldwide with 2005 sales estimated in excess of 30%.

1994 – 2003
Director Of Marketing & Engineering
Intelligent Well Systems

Rejoined the division's head-office to provide direction and leadership to the "Intelligent Well Systems" department. Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering and Marketing, the opportunity focused on leading enterprise solutions of growth with profit, through disruptive technologies.

Our programs to define cross-divisional requirements and contractually obligate departments to deliver results, combined in the successful introduction of three product lines. Cash from early introduction offset costs associated with other systems under development.

I refocused the group on generating revenue as opposed to "technology for technology's sake." We achieved significant revenue growth, and reduced the active list of engineering projects from fifteen to five.

The effort relied heavily on customer sponsorship. We created "customer advisory committees" to offset the uncertain payback associated with new technology. Risk and reward contracts provided success in some areas and failure in others. Overall, the ability to redirect the program to one of growth with profit proved to be rewarding personally.

I have held numerous positions of increasing levels of responsibility. These provided opportunities to work through challenges and manage success.

'01 Director of Marketing & Engineering, Intelligent Well Systems – commercialized and sustained disruptive emerging technologies. Responsible for Marketing, Sales, and Engineering departments. Customer focus on accelerating cash flow, minimizing asset operating cost, and enhancing recoverable reserves.

'00 Director of Global Business Development – reporting to Vice Presidents of Operations. Initiated and implemented e-commerce strategy. Targeted division marketing programs. Consolidated division-wide efforts on alliances, acquisitions, and cost management. Provided tactical solutions to division goals.

'98 Region Sales Manager, Gulf of Mexico – oversight of 106 sales representatives. Exceeded $200M annual sales forecast by $14M in a period of extreme industry downturn. Established "inside-sales" department (average $210K monthly with marketing expense under 14%).

'96 Director, Strategic Alliances & Acquisitions – reporting to the Vice President of Marketing. Established three strategic alliances with a major competitor. First year incremental revenue from these alliances in excess of $30M. Deselected four acquisition proposals and consummated two acquisition targets. Redefined the criteria for acquisition selection. Managed International Projects, Strategic Proposals, and division Pricing departments.

'95 Director, Marketing Communications – oversaw division image in the industry and the education services (training) department. I was able to enhance marketing exposure by 50%, conduct 35% more training courses, and introduce innovative electronic distribution of marketing materials to bring the total cost budget in 22% under Plan.

'94 Manager, Emerging Technologies – moved from a sister division to introduce and sustain next-generation product lines. Ability to transform front-line requirements into revenue generating products.

The opportunity to move downstream in the business provided a significant personal challenge to see if I could perform outside of my historical industrial niche. An internal job posting inspired the move from the sister division (see below).

1983 – 1994
I was able to take advantage of numerous international opportunities. My expatriate assignments span throughout Asia and I have traveled extensively (North America, South America, Scandinavia, Europe, Africa, Middle East, and Asia).

It was at this division that I began my active involvement with upstream oil & gas societies. I authored numerous technical papers and continue to serve on the article selection committee for the industry's most respected society on technical advances (Society of Petroleum Engineers – SPE). My findings and comments are routinely published in the mainstream business periodicals.
