I am a United Kingdom qualified Chartered Accountant. My Resume covers over 20 years operational and senior corporate experience in internationally based organisations (US$15 - $300 million turnover and departments of 15 persons on average).

My technical expertise includes implementing MRP/ ERP systems like SYSPRO, ACCPAC, and Pronto, and in establishing of multi-currency accounting, treasury, capital budgeting, costing systems for project and management controls. I have managed HR and recruited staff internationally, established performance management and competitive remuneration. I have established Supply and Warehouse management that is robust to cope with erratic supply flows, in Tanzania.

I have worked as Finance Manager for First Quantum Minerals Ltd., an AIM/ TSX quoted company with a capitalization of C$3.5 billion, in Zambia and the Dem. Rep. of Congo, where a $200,000,000 mine was built. I managed the cash drawdown and cash forecasting as well as forecasting a 5 year detailed plan including balance sheet forecasts. In my capacity as Manager, I also have participated in the environmental impact study as prescribed by World Bank and DRC government and have undertaken cross border 33MWH power supply negotiations. I worked again in the DRC with Mutanda Mining, a $600,000,000 capital project that is also a producing mine where the challenge has been to introduce European standards to a remote mining environment and within an international joint venture and the establishment of an HR, Purchasing/ Logistics and an IT department from scratch. I participated again in the feasibility studies for Mutanda.

My international experience includes mining, marketing and manufacturing across EMEA. I have enjoyed 4 expatriate postings, Three in Africa and one in Europe. I have also worked in USA, Brazil, France, India, Turkey, Dubai and Saudi Arabia where I have established businesses from scratch.

I have created and aligned accountability and internal control (including SOX) structures and processes. These include the measurement of achievements to the pre-set benchmarks and budgets. Clear cash and treasury management and relationship with banks and other external institutions have produced efficient use of cash resource. An advanced implementer of IT with expertise in various accounting packages and EXCEL (Macros), I have always set-up and provided best accounting and financial practice, upgrading staff skills, and been pro-active.

07/2008 – 12/2008 Avnel Gold Mining plc. – A Junior Gold Miner quoted on the LSE. Avnel's principle mining operation is in Mali. London position. Turnover $30 million.
Chief Financial Officer

Loss making mine in producing since 2004. An assignment to provide a strategy for mine turnaround and head up the company Finance, IT, Purchasing and HR departments.

Successfully defended a tax liability assessment, covering periods 2004 to 2007.
I resigned as there was no value that I could provide Avnel.

11/2007 – 05/ 2008 Mutanda Mining sprl. – A Democratic Republic of Congo Cobalt and Copper Mine. A JV between Glencore International (Swiss), Groupe Bazano (DRC), and Gecamine (DRC). Expatriate position. Turnover - $300 million.
Finance Manager – 15 staff

New mine in production. Set up of purchasing department, the IT department, the Finance Department and HR department.

Establishing SYSPRO an ERP system and the communications system between Kolowezi/ Lubumbashi and external using Vodanet and VSAT links.
Closing 2 sets of 2007 financials in compliance with IFRS and DRC laws. Establishing management reporting in accordance with Glencore standards.
Establishing the economic model for pre-feasibility studies to establish a capital project of $600 million and NPV.
Put in structures to Supply and Logistics to import into the DRC under new DRC import regulations.

02/2007 – 10/2007 Cluff Gold plc. – West African Operations in Burkina Faso, Mali, Sierra Leone, Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire. Expatriate Position. Company quoted on AIM.
Regional Financial Controller – West Africa – 10 staff

Control of Mine expenditure during construction phase in Cote d'Ivoire and in Burkina Faso;
Establishing JV relationships and negotiating the JV partner investment in Burkina Faso;
Successful negotiations with Governments on extension of favoured tax treatment in Burkina Faso and for Mining Permits in Côte d'Ivoire;
Implemented ACCPAC accounting system;
Negotiated and awarded several commercial contracts averaging $1 million per contract;

Environmental and Feasibility study and obtained mining license;
Negotiated the Electricity Power supply with SNEL, cross-border from DRC through Zambia and back to DRC. This involved wheeling of power on CEC power lines in Zambia.

Cash flow forecasting, budgeting and reporting for CAPEX of $200,000,000;
Recruiting for the Finance, HR, Engineering and Commercial Departments;
Restructuring Lubumbashi Office, in DRC.

8/2004 to 03/2005 Kahama Mining Corporation Ltd. T/O – US$150 million (400k oz gold) – Inventory $18 million. Underground Gold Mine and 1 million tonne processing plant in remote/harsh location in Tanzania (expatriate position). Subsidiary of Barrick Corporation – NYSE.
Commercial Manager – 8 direct reports.

Responsible for IT (3 persons); Finance (13 persons); Procurement and Logistics (6 persons) and Warehousing (30 persons).

Implemented an ERP system – Pronto. I joined the company with no system implementation direction or ownership. This had to be refocused and managed by me;
Currently in the process of implementing internal controls compliant with Sarbanes-Oxley Act. This is on track for compliance by Q1 2005;
Analytical processes for supply chain management has started and on track to integrate this with the costing systems;
Policy and procedures and business processes are 50% through;
Training/ mentoring of local staff planned and in progress. IT department now fully Tanzanian, Finance is on track for 2006;
Engaged with the Inspector of Taxes to the equitable benefit of KMCL;
Managed a restructuring exercise for Kahama in a testing situation.
