COMPETENCIES & SKILLS
- experienced operational, studies and research reservoir engineer. I have worked on many types of fields: gas, gas/condensate, oil rim, waterflood. Good understanding of related disciplines (economics, petrophysics, geology, production technology).
- efficient team leader who gets things done. From 2002-2004, I have been team leader for a 18,000 bopd field in Syria, a multidisciplinary team with 10 members. During this time, I pushed to accomplish the highest drilling activity level ever in the field (14 wells in 2.5 y) and we kept the production in this very mature (recovery factor >40%) stable for two years. A study on the field has been done in AFPC's study centre, we have succeeded in immediate implementation of the study recommendations. I furthermore did the RE work for most of the 45 well picks in the area (15 fields).
- Worked 3y in a research laboratory of oil major. I have been project manager of 9 studies, which have been completed on time, within budget and with high customer appreciation.
- Experience with Russian/FSU projects and engineers: at Sakhalin Energy I formed part of a team that succeeded to get approvals from the relevant Russian (SRC/CDC) state authorities for the development plans. I worked closely with Ukrainian scientists during my PhD research.
- Business level knowledge of Russian language.
- Experience in mentoring staff from a diverse cultural background.

Training standard oil major's introductory training (3 months), production technology for non PT, geology for non-geologists, negotiating skills, economics&finance, leadership programme

EXPERIENCE reservoir engineering:
- Operational experience: I have been operational RE for 10 fields during my time in Syria. Range of fields: from virgin oil rim fields to very mature water flooded fields. Production: free flowing and ESP. We proposed and drilled around 45 wells in these fields.
- Responsible for 2003, 2004 reserves bookings for above fields. The 2005 reserves booking I was responsible for 15 fields in an area booking.
- Good understanding of basic RE concepts (GOGD, WOGD, impairment, oil in transition zones, well productivity (also for fracced and horizontal wells), water flooding)
- Modeling: built in Syria from scratch 5 full field models, from upscaling to well picking. I am fully conversant with Eclipse and proprietary software and related programs. Added gas/condensate well pseudoing functionality to proprietary software (1999). Did full field forecasting and ran sensitivities for a large offshore field in Russia.
- August 2004 I was promoted to RE section head of the an area of the company (4 local REs; 2 expats): RE responsibility for 15 fields, >1,000 MMstb STOIIP, >100 MMstb remaining volumes, 90,000 bopd production
- Extensive knowledge of integrated field planning tool: designed, programmed and implemented Sakhalin Energy's field planning tool.
- Recognized current company's specialist in gas condensate RE and special core analysis. Business value of gas/condensate work assessed by operating company to be at least 200 MM$.
other disciplines:
- During my time at an oil major's research lab I was in a petrophysical group and did core analysis work; hence I have extensive knowledge in that area. Company focal technical focal point for SCAL.
- lots of interaction with production technology: PLT interpretation, decision on ESP replacements, nipple depth decisions, workovers, selection of completion options, decision on acid jobs, interpretation of well tests etc
- interaction with geologists during model building, upscaling, decision on drilling through faults, fault scooping, sidetracks etc.
- AFPC: interaction with drilling: we started using 3.5" cemented completions as from end 2002, which resulted in considerable cost reductions. I was closely involved with operational issues with these wells (cementation; plug setting etc).
managerial and other:
- August 2004 I was promoted to subsurface asset manager of area. The prime responsibilities of this role are:
* Integration of the individual field and facilities planning for all fields o Coordination of the optimisation of production levels in the CPF (around 90,000 bopd)
* Coordination of portfolio analysis exercise o PE interface with Engineering, Production Operations and Drilling at CPF level o Coordination of updates to the CPF Production Forecasts o Coordination of input to the monthly Short Term Drilling Sequence (around 20 wells per year)
* Coordination of studies (3-5 fields studied per year).
* Monitoring of the discipline staff (skill) levels within the CPF (20+ staff).
- Experience with getting approvals from Russian state oil institutes (CDC/SRC). Experience in working with partners in a joint venture.
- Proven (in oil major's research lab) ability to coach and mentor technical staff from diverse cultural background. Proven (during my studies; in Sudan and Japan and in AFPC) ability to work in a diverse environment.
- In Syria I mentored 3 local engineers
- In oil major's research lab: project manager of 9 studies, performed with research technicians, petrophysicists, geologists and reservoir engineers, both for oil and gas fields, clastics and carbonates. Consistent high customer appreciation (average score 89%)
- Lectured core analysis course 11 times in 7 OUs.

CAREER HISTORY DETAILS
2005 – present Reservoir engineer Salym Petroleum Development, Russia
Highlights
- Sector modeling of top sand of xx formation,
- preparing reserves reporting for one field, preparing well proposals
- Created excel/Visual basic tool for batch production of well proposals.
- Generate workover proposals

2002 - 2005 (section head) RE; subsurface asset manager
Al Furat Petroleum Company, Syria
Highlights
As RE:
- Operational RE for in total 10 fields; around 5 at one time (~ 50,000 bopd)
- We succeeded in attaining the highest 3yr drilling activity ever in the area. Decline for the area halved; from 20% pa to 10% pa.
- I built 5 dynamic models from scratch and assisted local staff with 2 more; when I arrived 4 out of 15 area fields had dynamic models; now it is 14 out of 15.
- We strictly adhered to conservative reservoir management such as bottoms-up production and honouring GOR limits, despite considerable pressure from management (production targets!). This strategy is now paying off: the area portfolio is stable and daily production is above target.
As section head RE (from August 2004):
- responsible for Tanak area reservoir engineering and reservoir management (15 fields, 7 REs; 90,000 bopd; 100MMstb developed reserves) and ARPR booking for the area.
- mentoring of 3 local staff.
As subsurface asset manager (from August 2004)
- responsible for reaching production targets and filling the drilling sequence. In 2004 we drilled 27 wells instead of 15 planned; we exceeded the area production forecast by 12,000 bopd annual average.

2000 - 2002 Reservoir engineer
Sakhalin Energy, the Netherlands
Highlights
Helped with handover of Sakhalin project from Marathon Oil; together with other disciplines we have understood the xx field and successfully defended the development plan to the Russian authorities (SRC/CDC). We received SRC/CDC approvals early 2002. I performed a lot of quick studies (uncertainty analysis, value of information, well delivery etc.) in cooperation with PT, petrophysicist and seismic interpreter. Designed, programmed and implemented hydrocarbon field planning tool for Sakhalin Energy.

1997-2000 Reservoir engineer oil major's research lab, the Netherlands
Highlights
My main work comprised core flooding experiments and gas/condensate impairment calculations. In close co-operation with operating company's gas team, I developed 1. full field dynamic well inflow model 2. Well delivery spreadsheets 3. Well test analysis 4. 6 month history matches for the gas/condensate fields. The study resulted in a decrease in planned wells and rigs. The business value of this work was estimated by the operating company in 2000 to be >100 MM$. With the operating company, brought together 6 companies in the 1999 gas / condensate workshop, Oman. Provided majority of technical sessions together with colleague. First author of 9 research reports; 2 external publications.
Perform SCAL studies together (hands on in the lab room) with technicians.
