Responsibilities included:
- Environmental support to mature Operations including ESIA development, Chemical permits, regulator reporting, ISO14001 and EMAS certification and divestment (Thistle) activities.
- Single Point Accountability for Environmental input to Decommissioning Programme - the first platform to receive OSPARCOM derogation to leave platform jacket ¡¥footings¡¦ and drill cuttings pile in situ, thereby significantly reducing potential HSE impacts and project costs.
- Representing BP at UKOOA Drill Cuttings Initiative Joint Industry Project, project managing JIP Study Contractors (3 Million UK Sterling) and developed the OGP Briefing Note which successfully influenced North Sea governments to maintain the potential for derogation.
- Design of Offshore Environmental Seabed Surveys & Biodiversity Action Plans. TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE
- Extensive experience with environmental auditing of existing Operations, newly commissioned sites and construction sites. Development of Contract (Environmental) terms and conditions, review of Contractor Control Plans, evaluation of performance against targets and acceptance of Improvement Plans.
- Directly responsible for the development of ISO14001 and EMAS registrations for a wide range of onshore (St Fergus Gas Terminal, Sangachal Terminal, Supsa Oil Terminal) and offshore facilities (platforms and drilling rigs) including a decommissioning platform which is a global first for a decommissioning project! Also ISO14001 and EMAS registration for St Fergus Gas Terminal in 2000 was a first within the TOTAL Group of Companies.
- Excellent working knowledge of onshore and offshore exploration (seismic/ocean bottom seismic, drilling) activities, oil and gas processing / support activities, potential environmental impacts and practicable mitigations during normal operations, shutdown and decommissioning activities.
- Waste management experience from UK and international perspective. Selection of cost effective and innovative methods for disposing of oily wastes as alternative fuels - produced water and oily drill cuttings completely disposed via the cement manufacture process - as presented at OGP Waste Management Workshop and Conference in 2004.
- Development of waste management risk assessment process for evaluating level of existing Waste Management Service providers. Development of technical guidance document to help Contractors attain international standards for waste management. Liaison with Independent Financial Institutes with respect to Improvement Plans / Pollution Prevention, design and construction of waste management facilities and infrastructure (storage facilities, incinerators, landfills, Indirect Thermal Desorption units, Bioremediation, Down Hole Re-injection), Reuse of treated drill cuttings as construction and road fill material.
- Responsible for development and implementation of Ecological and Operational Emissions Monitoring Programs for E&P activities including produced water and drill cuttings discharges, mussel bio-monitoring, biomarkers, hazardous /non-hazardous waste landfills, drill cuttings treatment technologies, stack emission monitoring, ground water, waste water, sewage treatment plant.
- Contract Manager for Environmental Laboratory (Azerbaijan) ensuring that 3rd party Laboratory can provide relevant support to BP growth activities in an emerging area, for example, has externally accredited Quality Management System, can perform typical analyses of soil, water and air and in particular eco-toxicology and microbiology testing. Chairing Quarterly Performance Reviews with Contractor, evaluating performance against KPIs and targets.
- BP Environmental Lead (Critical Skill) regarding offshore environmental monitoring surveys and impacts resulting from the decommissioning of platforms, jackets, pipelines and drill cuttings piles.
- Single Point of Contact for managing activities of the NW Hutton Scientific Review Group - comprising eminent Scientists and Engineers from academia - to provide independent feedback on the Decommissioning studies performed in support of the NW Hutton Comparative Assessment process and Decommissioning Programme.
