CAREER OBJECTIVES
To work at a responsible position in a progressive and dynamic energy sector company that provides opportunities for value added contribution to the growth of the company and of the personal career. The aim is to lead an energy sector company in South Asia in 15 years.

1987-91 B.Sc Electrical Engineering
NWFP University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, Pakistan
With majors in Power Systems in this four year programme, I obtained the degree with Honours. The programme not only provided technical competency but also inculcated analytical and problem solving skills.
1995-97 MSc Control and Information Technology
UMIST, Manchester, UK
This rigorous programme on theoretical and applied elements of Control theory provided an opportunity to study and collaborate with multicultural student teams.
2002-04 MBA
LUMS, Lahore, Pakistan
LUMS, being a leading business school with case method pedagogy, provided profound learning experience. With core and elective courses in Marketing, Finance, Human Resource, Accountancy and Operations Management, I kept on learning concepts, writing reports, analysing business situations and completing projects during these 22 months.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
05-92 to 04-93 Trainee Engineer with Pakistan WAPDA
I completed management and technical training programmes, each lasting twenty-two weeks, with distinction. Management course included topics such as management concepts and practices, industrial psychology, finance, audit, and inventory management. I have the distinction of getting first position among ninety participants. The technical course was designed for electrical engineers and dealt with electricity generation, transmission and distribution. I got fifth position in the course.
05-93 to 09-95 Junior Protection and Instrumentation Engineer
Units 11-14, Tarbela Power Station, Pakistan
I led a team of twenty-six technical staff in Protection and Instrumentation section of 1728 MW, Units 11-14 of Tarbela Power Station. I was responsible for planning, organising and implementing work practices, coordinating with other sections, assigning duties to the team members, regulating leaves, assessing performance, writing annual confidential reports, managing and sustaining internal relations and interacting with contractors, suppliers and government organisations. It also included preparing section budget, evaluating tenders and quotations, procuring and purchasing tools, plants and equipment, and handling inventory matters related to the section. Moreover, I worked, negotiated and kept liaison with foreign consultants and contractors on technical and contractual matters.
The technical duties included writing technical reports, troubleshooting, programming, maintenance and modification on a variety of control, protection, monitoring and instrumentation systems such as digital governors, static excitation system, PLCs, protection schemes and relays, digital and analog instrumentation devices, and computer based monitoring system. Due to the importance of Tarbela in national electricity network, my position also required working under pressure and deadlines to bring a faulty system back into operation.
02-97 to 05-97 Placement with Northern Electric plc, Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK
Northern Electric plc, an electricity and gas supply company, selected me for this placement under the British Council's Professional Involvement Project (PIP) from a pool of foreign postgraduate students in UK. During this placement, I studied the UK's privatised and competitive electricity network and the electricity supply business of Northern Electric plc. Also, I worked on database programming using FoxPro. This placement also provided a very valuable opportunity for me to adapt to the British work environment, whose culture and ethos are different from Pakistani work environment.
11-97 to 08-02 Junior Engineer SCADA Software
Tarbela Power Station, Tarbela, Pakistan
I was responsible for troubleshooting, maintenance and updating of operating system, application software and process database of SCADA system installed at 3478 MW Tarbela Power Station. My duties also involved writing reports, evaluating tenders, procuring and purchasing IT equipment, and conducting disciplinary enquiries. Having successfully taken up this assignment, I took leading part in discussions and tests for millennium compliance of this system. With my experience of protection, controls and instrumentation, I also coordinated with other technical sections.
Moreover, I provided policy and technical input to the senior management of the power station on the implementation and use of Information Technology. I also kept liaison and coordinated with local and foreign consultants and contractors. I had also been called for troubleshooting problems related to PLCs and electronic controls in other power stations. In early May 2002, working with Chief Engineer, I developed a plan for restructuring and rightsizing the manpower requirements of the whole power station. The plan has been approved by the Authority and is in the process of implementation. With a former Chief Engineer, I developed a two part lecture series for professional engineers on maintenance philosophy and concepts in hydropower sector.

* As a founding member, I am actively involved with a community based school for special children in Tarbela. I sit on its governing body and am intimately involved in its strategic management and fund raising.
* I am also involved with Leadership for Environment And Development (LEAD) as Associate. LEAD is an international training organisation that is working in the field of environment and sustainable development. I have attended training and development courses on Ecology, Economy & Environment, Governance of Energy and Technology, Human Settlements, Managing Natural Resources, and Appropriate Technology. I have travelled to Brazil and China for participating in international sessions attended by people from many countries.
