Career History
I South African Department of Defence. Jan 2007 – Date: Director, HR Governance, Risk Management and Compliance & Executive Coach for civilian staff in the Dept of Defence.
Responsible for providing a multi-level policy analysis service through the creation of interdependent relations to maintain the governance of HR goals, create a culture of risk management and compliance within prescripts and standards that enables the HR function to achieve strategic and operational objectives.
Main experiences/achievements in the following:
Establishing and directing the Directorate HR Governance, Risk Management and Compliance.
Governance
Aligning the HR policies and the individual parts of the HR function toward aggregate mutual benefit to optimise performance of the DOD's human capital assets.
Provide the means by which each individual part of the HR function can contribute to the mutual benefit of the DOD and that no policy contridict each other in order to: Fulfil fiduciary and financial responsibilities; mitigate HR risk; align the function's priorities with those of the DOD; and enable HR executive decision making.
HR Risk Management
Manage the process of measuring and assessing the HR function's risk tolerance, approach to delegating authority and expected level of management autonomy at unit at geographic levels and developing strategies to manage it.
Compliance management
Direct the primary functions of national compliance, remediation planning, and management oversight.
Provide oversight in policy implementation and provide direction for HR projects nationally to ensure compliance and remediation.
Senior Management Unit
Manage and provide an executive coaching service to senior management in defence.
Manage the Performance Management Development System (PMDS) and the personnel utilisation function of senior staff in defence.
II South African Department of Defence. Jan 1998 – Dec 2006: Director, Human Resource & Career Development executive for civilian staff in the Dept of Defence
Responsible for the total operational and strategic management of the Directorate for Public Servants for civilian employees, as well as managing projects, personnel, quality, product development, marketing and liaison with internal and external, (national & international) clients.
Main experiences/achievements in the following:
Direct the HR Career Development, Directorate's structures and rendering a service to the civilian personnel (15,000) of the Dept. of Defence, nationally.
Manage and provide an Executive Coaching service to senior management in defence.
Research and development of procedures, and processes of the functioning of personnel utilisation, career management and career planning within an integrated competency model.
Establishment and maintenance of an effective career planning service in career counselling to personnel to integrate the world of work with the life of employees.
The creation and implementation of policies, including the negotiation, promulgation, implementation and review of specific HR functions.
III Career Management & Equity Section in South African Police Service. 1993 – 1997: Assistant & Deputy Director (National functions)
Responsible for the total operational and strategic management of the Section Career Management and later the Equity component, including the management of projects, personnel, quality, product development, marketing and liaison with external organisations.

HR Management, Career Planning's staff rendering a comprehensive career management service to the personnel of the South African Police Service, nationally.
Supervising regional offices.
Research and development of procedures, and processes of the functioning of career management within an integrated competency model.
Establishment and maintenance of an effective career planning service.
Support the human resource management system within the organisation by consulting with line managers.
IV University of Potchefstroom, 1991 – 1992: Lecturer
Responsible for planning and carrying out the teaching of second, third and fourth year students in Social Work practices and theory.
V SASOL III, Personnel Development, 1990: Internal HR Development Consultant (Contractual work)
Responsible for all aspects of personnel development, management training, organisational development, career planning and development of five business units in SASOL III.
VI Chamber of Mines of South Africa, 1987 – 1990: Therapist/Trainer (EAP executive)
Responsible for the organisation and implementation of psychotherapeutic services to all employees and their dependants in the mining industry within a geographical area.
VII EARLY CAREER
1972 - 1987 I joined as a constable in 1972 and worked for 5 years as a policeman. Started studying in Social Sciences and was entrusted with the Welfare Section in a geographical area as a second year student (Pietermaritzburg). I worked with a team who helped me with the formulation and implementation of Social Services for 8 Police Districts.
