Opening Comments
I recently read your advertisement seeking experienced and knowledgeable professionals for positions in the "Field Drilling, Completions, Production / Operations, or QA/QC Supervisor / Foreman / Engineering" areas. Of particular interest would be either Austin, TX based, or field rotator opportunities. I very much enjoy working in my degreed (petroleum) field, and feel that my background and experience in the petroleum industry, quality engineering / management / systems, supplier quality / procurement, public / industrial safety, and various OEM products / industries would be a definite asset for any one of these opportunities.
My reason for seeking permanent full-time regular employment is primarily for family reasons. We (my wife and I) have just relocated to the Austin, TX area in May 2008 where we have children (and hopefully grandkids in the near future) living in Austin. My wife's father was born and raised in D'Hanis, where he (we) still has / have family (D'Hanis is west of San Antonio). I am especially interested in Austin based or field rotator opportunities, which would allow me to live in the Austin area and close to family.
I am currently working as a Drilling QA/QC Lead Engineer (International - Rotator), and have over twenty-five (25) years of experience in the petroleum (upstream - field), quality assurance, program / project management, purchasing / supplier quality, engineering, safety, manufacturing, supervisory (hourly / salary and union / non-union), and management capacities. I successfully sat for the ASQ CQE, CRE, and CQA examinations. I also have completed training, which encompassed all of the education requirements of the Black Belt program, as well as the Shannin Statistical Quality Engineering program. I have been previously involved in employee training in the areas of quality, reliability, and public safety / emergency response. I have completed the ISM "Certified Purchasing Manager" exam review course, and have been exposed to, and had the opportunity to work in several industry segments, such as the petroleum, component and assembly manufacturing, the HVAC/R, consumer products / appliance, automotive, and power tool industries.
I have education, training, and experience in the petroleum industry with a major producer, an independent producer, and a major oil field service company (Otis Engineering / Halliburton). This includes experience in the areas of drilling, completion / work-over, and production operations (production tools and testing, and surface / sub-surface safety equipment). I also have experience with on-site supervision of completion / work-over, and drilling operations, as well as overall program and service company management, and QA/QC engineering of drilling and completion equipment and services. A large portion of my experience was in the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandle, Western Oklahoma, and Southwestern Kansas / Southeastern Colorado areas; the remainder was in the North Eastern U.S. and internationally (Sakhalin Island; Russian Federation).
The following summary below will provide some detail to the above experiences:
1. Supervision of all field operations from the running and cementing of surface casing, to T.D.,
2. Supervision of all remaining field completions operations, which included:
A. Electric logging and log analysis,
B. Running and cementing long (production) casing string,
C. Perforating,
D. Hydraulic fracturing,
E. Well / production testing, and
F. Workover / remedial work.
3. Responsible for the selection of, notification / scheduling, and on-site supervision of all service companies /
field (drilling / completion) operations.
4. Assisted management with any and all field matters, including the costing of drilling and completion (including workover) programs and operations.
5. QA/QC Engineering activities related to the areas of drilling and completion equipment and services, quality management systems, and vendor development in an effort to reduce NPT and improve key drill team KPI's.
From a service company standpoint, I had the following responsibilities related to completion / workover operations:
1. Service all assigned customer jobs (both oil and gas wells) in the areas of
A. Wireline (slick-line),
B. Test and production tools (packers, bridge plugs, seal assemblies, profile nipples, plugs, sleeves, etc.), and other miscellaneous down-hole tools and equipment.
C. Surface safety valves, and
D. Some special services (coil tubing services).
2. Squeeze cementing with other service companies, which included running test tooling (packers / bridge plugs), monitoring / control the squeeze job at the wellhead manifold valve, and
3. Working with the customer in designing / specifying surface safety and downhole test and production tooling and equipment.
The well types that I've had experience working on included shallow, artificial lift through ultra deep, high temperature and pressure (over 10,000 psi surface pressure), and some H2SO4 (hydrogen sulfide - poison gas). My experience has only been limited to onshore operations. At that time, I was also OSHA certified in Surface and Sub-surface Safety Valves and Equipment.
I have had exposure / experience to numerous areas during my quality career, which included electro-mechanical products, electrical / electronic components and assemblies, compressors, metals / fabricating, bearings, valves, and non-metallic components and sub-assemblies. I also have work experience and training in areas such as QA/QC engineering of drilling and completions equipment and services, Project / Program Management, Procurement and Supplier Quality Assurance / Development (including various cost reduction programs, reverse auction with low cost country and domestic sourcing), Quality Systems Planning and Management (ISO-9000, TS-29001, and TS-16949), both Public and Private Sector Health and Safety, Process Control and Quality / Process Improvement utilizing Quality / Reliability / Statistical Engineering tools, testing, and methods, "Value-Added" Auditing, Quality (QMS, product, process) Auditing to ISO-9000 and QS-9000 standards, Problem Solving and Corrective Action, Measurement / Metrology Systems and Inspection, Advanced Product Quality Planning, and Customer and Supplier Relations.
I have twenty years experience in the volunteer public / fire service, in which I served fifteen years as an officer. I was also involved in training, fire prevention, and several business related functions as well. I have ten years working in the EMS field through the fire service, and five years working in the emergency management and industrial health and safety fields.
As part of my B.S. in Business, Management, and Economics, I took a concentration in Fire Service Administration; in which I was able to complete the 12 - course curriculum through the National Fire Academy. I also completed (over a 20 year time period) many fire / EMS / EMA / command / specialized training programs related to fire, safety, rescue, and emergency / contingency planning.
From an industrial standpoint, I was a member of two separate safety committees; one of which I served as the lead for a couple of years. Responsibilities included initiating a safety awareness / awards program, assisting with writing an employment and safety manual, weekly safety (environmental & health / housekeeping) inspections, ergonomics task force and plan, accident investigation (assisted) and prevention, assisting with safety training (Right To Know, Blood borne Pathogens, Haz Mat / Chemical Hygiene, Forklift, Love Your Back, Repetitive Motion, Hazard Communication, Lockout / Tag out - both Electrical and Machine, etc.), SARA Title III, off-site emergency response planning, and special studies surrounding accident rates / occurrences.
The Emergency Management portion included work on off-site emergency response planning with several industries in the area, SARA Title III / Hazardous Materials, County Planning / LEPC (Local Emergency Planning Committee) Lead, Fire, Rescue, Haz Mat / Radiological Officer, and Assistant EMA Coordinator.
With the fire service, I served fifteen years as an officer. I was involved during this time with training, fire prevention, and several business related functions. I was also involved with EMS and rescue, of which I spent a couple of years as a state certified instructor.
I would be happy to supply you with any additional information concerning my background and training. I have enclosed a copy of my resume for your reference, and would be interested in having the opportunity to participate in the selection process for rotator positions relating to Field Drilling, Completions, Production / Operations, or QA/QC Supervisor / Foreman / Engineering, for your U.S. or global upstream field operations. All salary requirements would be negotiable, and are contingent on determining a mutually suitable fit. If additional information is required, please contact me at either (512) 986-5955, or my cell phone (512) 364-5605.
Hopefully, this information provided will be of help to you, and I look forward to talking with you in the very near future to discuss possible opportunities in further detail. Thank You!
