DRILLING SUPERINTENDENT (Total Astrid Marin Gabon, Libreville, Gabon, 2000-2002)
Direct four well deepwater exploration drilling program, offshore West
Africa, in > 9000 ft water depth. Program completed in 70 days for $31
million. Actual water depths were 9156 ft (world record in April 2001), 8051
ft, 9313 ft and 6325 ft. Average well drilled in half the time and cost of
offset wells drilled by Agip (Congo), BHP (Gabon), BP (Angola) and TFE
(Equatorial Guinea). Fully involved with procurement and logistics
activities and well designs for project.
* Redesign wells to eliminate one casing string, saving estimated $6 million
for program.
* Located and mobilized equipment required to meet unplanned rig change for
second campaign in sixty days, saving an additional $1 million plus in JV
overhead costs.

Staff engineering position in International Drilling Operations. Worked on
projects for deepwater Gabon, Brunei, Columbia, Yemen, Caspian Sea,
Argentina, India, Myanmar, Brazil, Bangladesh, Oman and Qatar. Seconded as
Drilling Supervisor/ Engineer to Occidental of Bangladesh (Unocal) JV on an
as required basis.
DRILLING SUPERINTENDENT - Unocal Netherlands, The Hague, Netherlands (1998)
Execute deviated exploration well in Dutch sector of the North Sea. Achieved
all objectives in difficult drilling conditions with slimmed down casing
program
DRILLING SUPERVISOR - QMC Sucursal Peruana, Lima, Peru (1997)
Coordinate wellsite activities for heli-rig operation on 15,000' well in
Amazon jungle.
OPERATIONS MANAGER - FCE Borneo, Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei (1997)
Manage the design and execution of 5000m, HTHP, directional exploration well
(deepest well drilled offshore Brunei). Begin operations ninety days after
management approval. Reach total depth $4 million under AFE and 30 days
ahead of schedule.
FLETCHER CHALLENGE ENERGY, Auckland, New Zealand 1993-1996
OPERATIONS MANAGER (FCE Borneo, Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei, 1995-1996)
Establish startup operation to drill directional, geo-pressured offshore
exploration/appraisal wells. Two man team conducted all phases of work
required (bidding, evaluation, contract negotiation, materials procurement,
daily operations).
* Reenter, sidetrack, drill and test horizontal well with 750m of lateral
exposure in the reservoir.
* Drill and test 60 degree appraisal well, behind fault plane, which
intersected four targets.
DRILLING SPECIALIST (Petrocorp, New Plymouth, New Zealand, 1994)
Supervise drilling of offshore well (NE Kalimantan, Indonesia) with unique
approach to shallow water conditions (water depth 2 to 4 meters). A slimhole
land coring rig was placed on a self-elevating work platform with materials
and accommodation barges tendered alongside.
OPERATIONS MANAGER (Petrocorp China, Guangzhou, People’s Republic of China, 1993)
Lead onshore drilling campaign in mainland China. First project by a Western
Operator since 1949. Project successfully executed using (primarily) Chinese
contractors and personnel. SPE paper presented at SPE/IADC conference in
1995.
NERCO OIL AND GAS, INC. (Purchased UTP assets), Houston, Texas 1991-1992
DRILLING MANAGER
Implement $48 million Gulf of Mexico drilling program under budget, saving
company $8 million.
Operate an average of three to four offshore rigs at any one time (maximum
seven rigs).
Motivate multi-disciplinary team charged with pre-drilling subsea wells,
platform design and installation, well tiebacks and completions, and
drilling of remaining development wells.
