FIRE ALARM DESIGN
Designing fire alarm systems for special suppression systems and alarm notification in government, educational, chemical plant and hotel occupancies since 1998. Designs are integrated with smoke control and suppression systems for maximum redundancy elimination and removal of false alarms.

FOAM DESIGN
Supervised design of Yuma Naval Air Station hangar foam system. Grate Nozzles where used in consultation with Viking Sprinkler company. Joshua Jones from Desert Team, IPT West was AHJ, consultation was with Scott Harrison of Viking Sprinkler. During design stages and after submittal of 100% drawings with RFI's, the NAVY realized they under-estimated the contract amount...and construction ceased.

Supervised design of Diego Garcia Air Force Base hangar foam system upgrade. Purely overhead system was proposed, using existing three fire pumps. Corrosion to roof structure was such that new pipe could not be hung and this project was scraped. NAVFACENGCOM FPE Dick Conlin out of Pearl Harbor was the AHJ, and consultations resulted in asking for Grate Nozzle system if

Supervised the hangar foam-system demand calculations for Travis AFB C-17 Beddown in 1993. Demand calculations were used for sizing underground and verifying adequacy of existing fire pumps/tanks for future C-17 mission.

Designed bid-set drawings for Type II hangar fire suppression system in Scottsdale, AZ light, commercial aircraft repair and maintance facility.

Reviewed, signed and sealed 1996 Wright-Patterson AFB hangar foam system using overhead and oscillating nozzle design.

"Specified and proved in 1997 hydraulic calculations for foam-system protecting 2-story Acrylonitrile/butadiene/styrene resin manufacturing plant. Customer was Tokio Marine, a property loss insurer; processing plant location was in South Carolina."

Work with, but not for, Veteran Construction Services [a disabled veteran qualified 8.a) small business set-aside company]. VCS is 49% owned by Wolverine Fire Protection. WFP acts as a GC (26 million annual revenue) on $10 million dollar projects and smaller, and subcontracts on larger jobs. WFP has designed and/or built dozens of hangars (Andersen AFB, Guam, NAS Corpus Christi Hangar 43-47, Honeywell Corporate Hangar.

NUCLEAR INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE
Contract work with Washington Group International on Pit Disassembly and Conversion Facility: provided fire modeling support of production building design. Production building to receive nuclear warhead pits, remove them and subsequently convert them to lower grade nuclear material for consumption in reactors. Work graded by DOE, Savannah River Site, Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

PERFORMANCE-BASED DESIGN
Member: City San Diego Board of Appeals and Advisors - 4 years

Developed first passive-high rise smoke-control tower design in city San Diego for Hyatt-Embarcadero. Saved millions in stand-by electrical generator costs, capital expenditure of fans, system commissioning. This passive tower smoke-control design is now the model for City San Diego.

Developed equivalency for glass doors that did not have U.L./FM rating based upon CFD and thermophysical properties of glazed doors, and performance expected from sprinkler system. This resulted in the use of non listed/rated glass doors where they otherwise would not have been accepted by the California Building Code.

Developed equivalency for exposure of 7 story apartment building that encroached CA building code mandated setbacks. CFD examined incident radiation levels on exposed properies and effectiveness of barrier construction and sprinkler performance. This resulted in allowing additional windows and patios versus what California Building Code allows.

INSPECTION, TESTING & COMMISIONING
Developed a test protocol, ordered equipment for, and conducted the samplar systems for highly toxic gas detector verification. Essentially, i filled balloons with phosgene, arsine, silane and sulfur hexaflouride, among other highly toxic/flammable gases. The detection systems were located in a silicon wafer manufacturing plant in Puyallup, WA.s.

Assisted in the testing and approval for Certificate of Occupancy, the smoke-control, fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems at the Venetian Casino and Resorts, Las Vegas, NV.

Tested out for approval and Certificate of Occupancy, the smoke-control, fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems at the Park City Condominium High-Rise, San Diego, CA.

Research
Performed Code equivalancies and performance based designs for NIST, Building and Fire Research Laboratory, Washington, DC. Assisted in tests measuring fire properties.

Presentations
Taught and presented dozens of seminars from NIST/BFRL in Washington D.C to Politecnico di Torino to SFPE Chapter in Montreal.
