Phillips Petroleum Offshore Company
Site Structural Engineer
Responsible to site manager for all aspects of structural/ civil engineering during fabrication of Bayu Undan DPP and CUQ integrated decks (15,000 tonnes & 11,500 tonnes resp). Principal achievements include:-
- Completed reviews of floatover and load out designs at critical stages, liaison with all contributing parties to ensure consensus agreement and commonality of design detail.
- Developed load out procedures with HHI engineers. Obtained Marine Warranty Surveyor approval. Specified analysis requirements for inclusion in procedures. Platforms were floatover installations and a critical consideration was reliability of deck support and leg mating unit tolerances.
- Key involvement in the successful completion of the decks by application of sound structural engineering principles to site queries and clash resolution. Working with designers operating PDS model to produce solutions to clashes, fit up and other problems.
- Rationalized engineering problems to produce timely and cost effective solutions, enabling area mechanical completions to proceed on schedule.
- Proactively assisted HHI with craneage and erection procedures during fabrication of decks which were built in 'blocks'. Utilizing 3D PDS model for clear understanding of erection sequences and clearance problems.
- Supervised HHI production of fabrication Weight Report, advised and assisted HHI to develop weighing procedures for the two decks.
- Participated in craneage and yard handling procedures at Samsung Heavy Industries during fabrication Bayu Undan FSO during visits to their Koje fabrication yard.

April 2000 to November 2000
Brown and Root Energy services.
Principal Engineer
- Developed procedures for installation of replacement riser on Liverpool Bay wellhead platform. Performed structural analysis of jacket with revised modelling in order to obtain Lloyd's approval.
- Lead structural engineer Shah Deniz topsides pre FEED. Collaborated with drilling consultants to produce conceptual topsides structure layout preliminary weight report and weight estimates for installation on jacket in the Caspian Sea. Concept was that the topsides would be fabricated remotely and trans-shipped via Volga- Don canal to Caspian Sea.

Between March 1999 and April 2000, took one year sabbatical.

April 1997 to March 1999
Brown and Root Energy services.
Principal Engineer
Initially in Central Projects Group responsible for performing detailed structural design assignments on Sangu Field topsides in Bangladesh and re-certification work on Amoco Northern North Sea fields. Key achievements were:
- Development of procedures for caisson replacements after corrosion failures at NW Hutton.
- Represented Halliburton Energy Services as company technical structural adviser during due diligence evaluations for proposed operation of NW Hutton platform.
- Preparation of design calculations for topsides of Sangu platform, liaison with PDMS/ Triton draftsmen for issuing of AFC drawings to fabricator.

December 1994 to April 1997
Intershore Durban South Africa (AMEC)
Lead Structural Engineer (Topsides)
Responsible for production of detail design of topsides for Chevron Cabinda Phase 2 an EPC contract Supervision and preparation of detailed engineering calculation packages for primary, secondary and tertiary structural steelwork also responsible for design of fabrication supports, temporary build structures, roll ups and response to site queries. Coordination of the interface between EPC contract (Intershore/Amec) and Transportation and Installation contractor (Saipem) as well as the load out contractor (Econofreight). Project engineering for development of green field construction yard including load out quay, foundations for jackets and topsides and main facilities for fabrication and load out of Cabinda project modules.

FEBRUARY 1989 TO SEPTEMBER 1994 - GOODWYN A PLATFORM - WESTERN AUSTRALIA.

December 1992 to September 1994
WOODSIDE OFFSHORE PETROLEUM
Lead Structural Engineer - Goodwyn A Project
Lead Structural Engineer during the final phase of the project responsible for all aspects of Jackets and Topsides Structural Engineering, including completion work, change control, structural integrity, report production, as built drawings, preparation of safety case, offshore job card production and hook up support. Topsides design representative during offshore installation.

During the pile remedial program which lasted 15 months responsible for project engineering for completions work on Modules, project engineer for combining drilling "mini modules" into two lifted modules of 1200 and 2000 tonnes.

Installation engineering on new 200 tonnes "Amenities Module" for Goodwyn.

February 1989 to December 1992:
DAVY MCKEE MCDERMOTT
Lead Structural Engineer - Goodwyn A Project
Supervision of all design aspects relating to installation of Goodwyn 'A' Platform Topsides for Woodside Petroleum including: Analysis for Load-Out, Transportation, Lifting and Skidding of the modules. Development of installation procedures and details for six modules of up to 3500 tonnes weight and the vertical flare tower 115 metres in length.

Liaison with the Client (Woodside), Marine Warranty Surveyor, Substructure Designers, Fabricators and Installation Contractors on all matters relating to installation through the conceptual, detailed design, construction and offshore installation phases.

Performed a quality audit on Hyundai's load out proposals and engineering and produced a report recommending extensive changes and improvements, seconded to Woodside's site team to resolve these issues.

January 1992 to November 1992:
Seconded to Woodside's Korean site team as Site Structural Engineer. During this period the 115m vertical flare tower was fabricated and trial fitted to its host module using a procedure developed and agreed with HHI on site. The 2500 Tonnes of load out grillages were designed, built and installed on the two transportation barges.
Responsible for scrutiny and acceptance of all HHI's construction proposals from the point of view of safety, quality and cost.
Site structural engineer until sailaway attended all load outs and supervised construction and inspection of module seafastenings with internal repair of the barges where appropriate. Seconded to Woodside from January 1992.

April 1988 to January 1989:
BUREAU VERITAS - PARIS
Project Engineer
Following on from previous position with Stena in N Africa (see below), certification of various platforms including: finalisation of Ashtart topsides, Elf Petroland L7D wellhead jacket and topside. Warranty Survey for Kakap field in Indonesia, checking of installation procedures for jacket load-out, towing, launch and upending including conducting full analysis together detailed review of topsides load out, towing and lifting proposals.

July 1987 to April 1988:
STENA OFFSHORE
Project Engineer
Re-certification for ELF AQUITAINE of 5 platforms and 3 bridges in Tunisia in 66 metres water depth. Responsible for detailed analysis of the 12 leg drilling jacket, two 4 pile utilities jackets and two flare tripods.
Production of detailed reports which were used to develop planned inspection and maintenance program for the client. Analyses were performed using the SESAM 80 suite of programs. Successfully negotiated re-certification with Bureau Veritas for four of the five platforms the fifth was completed with BV continuing on from completion of STENA's involvement.

September 1986 to May 1987:
MICOPERI
Senior Structural Engineer
Performed feasibility study for SAGA Petroleum (SNORRE) on installation of proposed 2000 tonnes sub-sea manifold and drilling template, TLP template and anchor sub-base. Concepts developed for steel or concrete TLP mating and installation. Preliminary installation engineering for the TLP sub base and drilling template.
The result was the successful development of the field using the procedures developed during this study.

June 1985 to August 1986:
KROESE OFFSHORE SERVICES LTD
Project Engineer
Responsible for management of engineering in a specialized offshore installation consultancy, providing advice to operators on installation matters. Clients and projects included:
Marathon East Brae - very large module (6,000 - 10,000 tonnes) installation and fabrication feasibility study.
British Petroleum - heavy lift vessel evaluation and large topside (integrated deck) development feasibility study.
British Gas Corporation - Morecambe Bay - installation management for a riser protection structure on CPP1
Shell UK - Lifted jacket installation and load out feasibility study (NW Dunlin).
October 1983 to June 1985:
HEEREMA ENGINEERING SERVICES (UK) LTD
Project Engineer
Senior Structural Engineer ARCO Thames development, responsible for engineering of two 160ft water depth jackets design from initial concept through detailed design, including in-place, load-out, transportation, lifting, damage and fatigue analyses. Construction engineering at Lewis Offshore, load outs and seafastening.

March 1979 to September 1983:
BRUNEI SHELL PETROLEUM
Senior Structural Engineer
Responsible for structural integrity of BSP's 200 jackets e.g. preparation of Inspection Philosophy, NDT Inspection Procedures using divers and ROV's and other data gathering exercises. Preparation of design reports and analyses of topsides and jackets.
Design checking of jackets prior to workovers and after discovery of damage. Subsequently, formulating programs of remedial works, including fabrication and installation supervision.
Developing Scopes of Work for design verifications, design of repairs and development of procedures for various repairs from simple weld repairs to complex grouted and clamped solutions.
Arising from the above programs, development of Scope of Work and conceptual design of replacement drilling platform to be installed around 19 existing oil wells (AMDP-1). Supervision of detailed design by Earl and Wright, including a period of 8 months as Resident Engineer in their offices in San Francisco.

April 1975 to February 1979:
HEEREMA ENGINEERING SERVICE - HOLLAND
Structural Engineer
Responsible for jackets, decks and foundations design for a number of structures in the North Sea including:
Two 4 pile and one 6 pile platform, 100ft. water depth (Pennzoil, Holland).
12 pile, 24 conductor drilling platform in 280ft. water depth (Elf, Tunisia).
Also, generally responsible for the structural design of facilities for jacket launching, deck lifting, module lifting, loadout and seafastening. Projects included: Phillips Ekofisk, Shell Brent B, Oxy Claymore and Beryl Alpha.
