•    In Charge of several areas of Engineering: Inspection, Technical Engineering, Control & Optimization, Laboratory / Quality Control and Environmental Control.
•    Administration and personnel function were executed under this function.
•    Executed different negotiations with External Construction Companies to provide personnel with high quality apartments under the company program for improvement of personnel job environment. Substantial reduction in price and improvement of quality was obtained through negotiations.
•    Executed several negotiations with the Insurance companies to recover losses from commercial accidents that required detail technological evaluations (1.2 MM dollars were obtained through negotiations)
•    Executed Stress Analysis Evaluations of the Hydrocarbon Pipe and Air Pipe in the Dehydrogenation Unit finding a hiding Design Problem. In charge of legal negotiations with the Licensor with results of over 12 MM $ in licensors payments to Super Octanos and considerable savings in expenses for new equipment installation during turn around.
•    Executed Quality Control through the Inspection group force licensors to substitute pipes and equipment that did not comply with engineering regulations. Improvements in safety and production continuity were obtained from these activities.
•    Leader of the Group responsible for changing a Complex from Non Continuous Process (2-3 Unplanned Shut Downs per Week) to a Continuous Process Unit (1 to 3 Unplanned Shut downs per month) during the first three years due to design problems that most of them were resolve during this period.
•    In Charge several times of the Production and Maintenance Management.
•    Project Leader of major Projects:

    Building of a new MTBE tank and its related pipe lines for a cost over 3 MM USA dollars.

    The incorporation of a new Computer System in Real time for the Engineering Department with the main Objective of including Optimization and Control on Line in Real Time.

    Substitution of a major Heat heater for the Dehydrogenation Unit with a total cost over 5 MM USA dollars. Successful Negotiations with Methanol Units in the Area to sell High Purity Hydrogen improving even further the MTBE benefits already in place. The benefits obtained was over 6$/ton of hydrogen sold with no production cost involved.

-    Inclusion in the Complex of a New Cleaning System for Waste Water that resulted in total compliance with Environmental Regulations.

-    Substitution of 12 major Expansion Joins and its relate springs to Guarantee Mechanical Stability and diminish Vibration and Noise Problems improving this way no only the continuity of the plan but the job environment for the employees.

INTEVEP, (PDVSA), Venezuela - Section Head


•    Leader of the Alkylation’s and Membrane Area for all the Venezuela refineries.
•    Injection Evaluations of several gaseous chemical components to the fluidized catalyst bed (FCC Units) to determine their effect in yield, conversion and selectivity through operational data was executed to determine potential improvement in product yield at PDVSA industrial plants.
•    Applied Optimization Techniques using simulation packages to Alkylation’s Units. These evaluations revealed that real time control optimization technique could improve substantially the targeted high quality performance of the unit.
•    Developed new technology to increase the octane number in the Alkylate compound number which brought benefits over 2 m$ per year.
•    A bench market Evaluation in the Alkylation’s Area was executed among the different technologies available in the country. This Evaluation allowed engineering groups from five (5) different alkylation’s unit to improve operational performance and final octane numbers.
•    An Overall Evaluation (Technical and Financial Feasibility) was executed of the use of ternaries and secondary streams from all the PDVSA refineries to produce new products using technologies available in the market at commercial level. Through this study a new program for recovery and use of this stream begin at the refinery industry in Venezuela.
•    Implementation of the first Membrane Project in Venezuela in the Refinery Area with DUPONT in the area of Production in Maracaibo Area-Zulia State, Venezuela.
•    Continuous Technical Interchange and Commercial Evaluations with American Universities specialized in the Membrane Area (University of Austin, Texas)

PROCTER & GAMBLE – Manager Assistant MRD


•    MRD (Marketing and Research Applications) in the HDS (Heavy Detergent area) for South America.
•    Developed several New Detergents Formulas together with relate technical and marketing evaluations to determine the feasibility of the new products.
•    Executed multiple studies in Venezuela among markets segments of Class A, B, C, and D to determine consumer behavior against the mission / objective of the new developed product and the consumer reaction during its used and during its purchasing.
•    Executed continuous manufacturing’s evaluation using the major cost centers in Barquisimeto and Caracas - Venezuela to corroborate operational continuity and new product quality compliances.
•    Several Health Evaluations were done with overseas companies to Guarantee Human Health under the New Products.
•    It was determined that the quality of the product developed was quite superior but the actual market will suffer if major changes in the mixing system were implemented. A new design was proposed for the Cost Centres but it was rejected because affected the major market under Procter Control (> 85%).
•    Executed several Technical Evaluations over the synergy of elements being used in the HDS formula and the findings were qualified as innovation due to the effects in the physical properties of the HDS and its economical impact.

•    New design changes in Reactor System for Alkylation Unit / UOP technology in the Refinery. Letter of recognition for the Job done from Operations. Rare action never seen in the Refinery before for several years.
•    A new Patented Treatment system for HF acid was developed to able analyzers on line to execute the control on line in real time. This new development was patented by INTEVEP and then negotiated with Applied Automation Company for 300,000 USA dollars plus two senior engineer times for a period of a year. First Patent in Venezuela with Direct Commercial Application.
•    This new development in the Analyzers area able the implementation of the Control On line in the Alkylation Unit. The discovered and patent was well published in the news and newspapers in Venezuela ((Official Documents to be provided under request).
•    Coordination and planning engineer in Charge of Bunkers and GLC in the East Cost of USA and Canada in the Marketing area in the Refinery Headquarters.
•    Assigned to the Hague-Shell Europe for Honeywell TDC2000/3000 Evaluation for a period of three months.
