SUMMARY

Managed and implemented facility, plant and process environmental control operations.

Extensive experience with Japanese manufacturing techniques, quality management processes and team building.
Mechanical Engineering degree from Utrecht School of Technology, Holland, with extensive post-graduate work and honors.

EXPERIENCE

INTEVAC INC., January 2001 to present, Santa Clara, CA
Program Manager

Responsible for the development of their first Program Management team which included establishment of recourse plans, self directed design, engineering and manufacturing teams for their first, large scale, “flat Screen” Sputtering System product line.

Developed and coordinated the analysis of company capability, capacity and made decisions related to “in-house” or “out-source” design, hardware manufacturing and software development services. Developed a “real time” program status tracking system for confirming implementation of customer requirements, marketing commitments, design, engineering, manufacturing, customer acceptance testing, system installation and customer training.

Lead the customer relations and marketing team for new product applications and “on site” customer product reviews.

SUN MICROSYSTEMS, November 1997 to December 2000, Newark, CA
Project / Team Leader

Developed a multi-discipline, process design and implementation team that transferred Sun's computer and mainframe manufacturing plant from Milpitas, California to their new Newark campus. This transfer included the redesign and implementation of Sun's complete manufacturing process from random assembly clusters to self-directed assembly cells from pre-kitting through assembly, test and pack-out. The two-phase project was completed within budget, on time and without production interruptions. It resulted in a 25% production efficiency improvement.

Initiated and implemented Sun Team manufacturing initiatives to improve quality, yields and throughput. Implemented a capacity-planning program to validate corporate global supply management plans and global capacity distribution. Developed the five-year global manufacturing capacity vision including NPI initiatives and developed detailed infrastructure upgrade requirements, at six-month intervals, to support assembly and test processes of new products.

Led the introduction (NPI) of Sun's new High End Server and Mass Storage product lines and developed Manufacturing Lead-Time reduction and Solutions Integration initiatives.

SYSTRON DONNER INERTIAL DIVISION OF BEI, August 1996 to October 1997, Concord, CA
Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Directed manufacturing engineering, process automation and plant engineering functions. Developed the Division's short and long term Goals and Objectives, Operational and Capital Improvement budgets and cost controls.

Established and directed the activities of their new multi-discipline manufacturing engineering team.

Developed and directed the design and construction efforts of a ten-fold expansion of their class 100/10,000 Quartz Wafer Fabrication clean room, including process design and implementation of Electron-Beam metal deposition units, waste water treatment and power distribution. The design included development and introduction of an automatic, high speed, sensor assembly line, automatic laser trimming systems and assembly cells.

Implemented the factory floor data integration system (SQL). The factory data integration system allowed for real time analysis for process optimization and centering. Initiated departmental Continuous Improvement Teams.

MEYER INDUSTRIES, INC., August 1993 to August 1996, Vallejo, CA
Project/Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Responsible for the establishment of their first U.S. fully automated aluminum cookware manufacturing plant. Established production and quality standards and directed all process and engineering activities. Responsible for capital investment and operational budgets. Directed all activities related to the establishment of the factory including design and construction, process and distribution implementation, design, purchase and installation of computer integrated manufacturing systems that included aluminum forming, hard anodizing, PTFE application, high temperature curing, riveting, automatic packaging, computerized random inventory and retrieval of finished goods.

Responsible for obtaining transmission level power distribution for the energy intensive hard anodizing process, air and waste water discharge permits and establishment of code equivalencies and Hazardous Material Management.

NEW UNITED MOTOR MANUFACTURING, Inc. (NUMMI), April 1984 to August 1993, Fremont, CA
Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Responsible for the activities of a process engineering team in establishing process and model change-over, feasibility, appropriation formulation, process layout, equipment design. Responsible for major bid package preparation, vendor selection, fabrication and installation coordination, plus training and production phase in.

Completed project engineering and contract management responsibilities for a: (1) Major 1988 Body Welding Shop model change; (2) Major passenger paint production system upgrade; (3) New 350,000 square foot truck paint system in 1991. Developed and implemented an Owner/Contractor Joint Project Management standard. This standard facilitated early completion and up to fifteen percent project budget reduction. It has become a standard at NUMMI, G.M., Saturn, and Toyota USA operations.

Received the eight year continuous perfect attendance award.
