Usan Umbilical Lead Engineer (Contract)
As the lead Umbilical Engineer I am responsible for all the technical aspects of the umbilical work package from technical bid appraisal to design through manufacture and including installation. I report to the UFR Package manager.

The Usan system involves the supply of approximately 70km of umbilical in a total of over 30 individual sections. This involves the management of a large number of interfaces, particularly with the SPS contractor.

I have an umbilical Engineer reporting to myself and have to interface extensively with the SPS and FPSO teams to ensure the smooth integration of the umbilical package within the whole Usan Project

01/2006 – 09/2006 Saipem Paris, France
Riser Monitoring Engineer (Contract)
Responsible for the definition of the scope of supply for the Akpo riser monitoring system. This is a complex monitoring system required to monitor both the stresses and motions of the top and bottom of the production SCR's and both ends of the OOL's.

Subsequently the position involved numerous bid review meeting, bid appraisals and eventual recommendation for the supplier of the system.

During this time I was also involved in some bid support work for umbilical and power cable systems.

Lead Umbilical Engineer (Contract)
As the Senior Engineer I am responsible for all the technical aspects of the umbilicals required for the Greater Plutonio Development. This project includes both dynamic and static umbilicals containing steel tubes, electric cables and fibre optic cables, being supplied by two umbilical manufacturers.

Functions include managing of all technical aspects of the subcontract to a major umbilical manufacturer and liasing with the ultimate end user to ensure that all umbilicals are supplied on time, fit for purpose and on budget.

My responsibilities also cover the technical management of the riser tower monitoring instrumentation, covering load cells, motion sensor and Pressure and temperature monitoring.

Principal Engineer Product Development

As a Principal Engineer I am responsible for a team of 7 engineers who undertake all of the product development work for the company. The team has developed a number of products that have extended the company's design envelope. The Development budget amount to several $ million. Often development was required against tight deadlines to ensure that the product was adequately qualified to allow the company to bid or supply to all the major clients in the Offshore oil industry.

Prior to this position I was a senior engineer, responsible for a team of 3 engineers whose function is to review customer specifications, and design flexible pipes and pipe systems to meet their requirements. The following lists the main functions of this job:

Design of non-bonded flexible pipes in accordance with API Standards.
Flow simulation, using PIPESIM.
Dynamic analysis of riser systems, using Orcaflex.
On bottom stability in accordance with DnV Rules.
Reel calculations.
Writing technical reports.
Presenting and discussing ideas with customers.
Developing novel solutions to unusual problems.
Listing technical exceptions.

Main activity involved detailed engineering work on an integrated umbilical and flexible riser system, for connection between a floating facility and seabed equipment. Some of the main skills acquired were:
