Job involved Monitoring and Supervising stringing and laying of the pipeline after trenching in the ROW (Right of Way), Coating Wrapping of the pipeline with Heat Shrink sleeves, Horizontal Directional Drilling through river beds, Hydrotesting of the pipeline, Pigging to clean and check the health of the pipeline, Installation of Mainline Gate valves, Bank protection of Rivers through which the pipeline was laid by Open Cut Method, Backfilling and Restoration of the the Right of Way after completion of the job. This Kandla Bhatinda Product Pipeline Project a 1443- Km long pipeline of 7.5 MMTPA capacity had an outlay of US $415 million.
Pump Station Construction
I was also the Project Engineer looking after pump station construction. Job involved installation of 8 Cylinder Marine Engines from Rolls Royce which were used as Prime Movers and coupled to Centrifugal pumps to pump the petroleum product through the pipeline, Road Construction within the station premises, civil construction of buildings and sheds. There was a lot of piping fabrication job involved and all welding joints were carried out in accordance with API - 1104. This was an Augmentation Project of an Existing Crude pipeline by the name of Salaya Mathura Pipeline to cater to the needs of a new refinery at a place called Panipat about 60 kms from New Delhi. Indian Oil is the channelising agency for importing crude from the gulf and other foreign countries and we were entrusted with doing this job. This system enabled offloading tankers through floating hoses, the buoy and a subsea pipeline without dropping anchor.
Tank Farm Operations
The crude offloaded offshore by the Single Buoy Mooring System from the massive oil tankers also known as VLCCs, an acronym for Very Large Crude Carriers were pumped to a tank farm through the subsea pipeline.
