SUMMARY
Experienced Reservoir Engineer with over twenty years in the oil industry, both domestic and international. Technical skills include: pressure analysis, property evaluation, reserves determination, operations, and modeling with an expertise for enhancing company value. Successes include a proven ability to find additional reserves where others have already looked. Strong team-player skills with proven record of accomplishments as an innovative and motivated problem solver willing to meet challenges and explore new possibilities. Leadership skills include management of direct reports and team projects.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Pressure Transient Analysis
Analyzed over 150 pressure buildups with permeabilities ranging from 0.0007 to 5,000 md. Provided onsite supervision in Azerbaijan, Brazil, Egypt, Netherlands and United States.
Designed, supervised, and analyzed 3 well tests in two subsea completions in a deepwater-GOM, $90 MM development. Made critical decisions to adapt the program for unexpected conditions.
Coordinated analysis of 6 buildups for two wells in a 4 TCF Australian-exploratory property. Identified that the fracture fluid damaged the formation eliminating productivity.
Used Material Balance and Pressure Transient Analyses to show fines migration accounted for "poor" well performance in Miocene sand. Proposed wells to redevelop abandoned zones with 8 MMBOE potential.
Interpreted buildup from a "permanent" gauge in a well with a flow rate of 85 MMscfd and reserves of 95 BCF. Used flow geometry and Material Balance to develop strategy for a competitive situation.
Analyzed buildup for a replacement well with a different pressure and water contact than expected. Explained the geometry leading to drilling another well and booking 15 BCF of reserves.
Technical Analysis
Performed 45 Material Balance studies consisting of 160 wells with in-place volumes of 310 MMBOE. Showed MB "Fit for Purpose" in simple well/reservoir conditions.
Designed simulation model to determine recovery efficiency and predict performance affecting critical development decisions resulting in approval of $200 MM offshore development.
Participated in 3 integrated surface/subsurface system studies improving performance of mature fields by debottlenecking gathering systems. Alerted management to accelerate 3rd stage compression project to extend field life. Determined scope supporting water shut-off in dead well; flow restored to 10 MMscfd.
Headed an integrated team created to review underperforming properties in offshore Louisiana. Identified potential of 26 MMBOE by explaining the reasons for the poor production: fines migration, internal flow barriers, compartmentalization, and clay swelling.
Initiated and managed activities between two companies to successfully fracture two of the first four wells in the Gulf of Mexico (breaking ground for frac-pack technology in GOM). Increased productivity by 400%.
Selected, purchased, and designed 5 software packages: Volumetric, Material Balance, Decline Curve, Analytical and Numerical Well Testing software. Directed training for over 100 engineers improving their knowledge of property evaluation techniques.
Interpreted well logs to make casing decisions during drilling. Utilized spectral log to determine clay type in radioactive sands near Cretaceous volcanoes. Generated Pickett Plot to build water resistivity table.
Property Evaluation and Project Implementation
Performed numerous property evaluations in their various phases including buying, selling, trading, and development. Skilled at breaking a field into its component parts, analyzing them, and then reassembling into an "exploitation plan." Used technical analysis to determine reserves, production forecasts, and economic justification to maximize value.
Directed 3 member consulting team to a review an acquisition of a Turkish field. Outlined technical study for the client to locate additional oil and reduce risk.
Conducted major engineering study of South Texas Wilcox properties with over 100 wells and EUR of 300 BCF to determine their materiality and development options. Performed scoping study showing that hydraulic fracturing had not improved performance in these fields.
Actively sought and received approval to drill 8 wells on a GOM block. Identified candidate wells for frac-pack technology; one well's initial rate was 2,280 BOPD, where the average had been 400 BOPD.
Organizational Effectiveness
Introduced video program to improve the quality and content of meetings. Designed and developed a pocketsize card as a job aid to improve meeting effectiveness – distributed to over 200 employees.
Shared knowledge with peers by making presentations to Reservoir Engineering Forum -"Gauge Selection for Well Tests and SPGs" and "Well Test Design Made Simple." These presentations were well received.
During the last ten years, mentored junior engineers in their petroleum engineering activities. Led and coached them in their careers providing substantial benefit to them and the organization.
