QP Refinery is a refining facility of conglomerate Qatar Petroleum owned by State of Qatar. Qatar Petroleum is responsible for all oil and gas industry processes in Qatar and abroad, including exploration and drilling for oil, natural gas and other hydrocarbon substances, production, refining, export and storage. The refinery now operates one crude, one Crude-Condensate and one Fluid Catalyst Cracking refining unit. Condensate and FCC refineries are the state of art refineries commissioned in year 2001 with the investment of US $ 750 millions under M/s Lurgi- Germany and M/s LG-Korea consortium.
Responsibilities and Achievements:
* Monitor overall condition of piping and stationary equipments by employing modern non-destructive techniques. Prepare and present inspection report on performance, life expectancy and integrity assessment.
* Devise a predictive maintenance strategy and assure plant integrity. Conduct Corrosion audit of plant and ensure asset integrity.
* Schedule long and short-term inspection strategy for equipments and associated plants. Plan and implement criticality based inspection frequencies.
* Worked with M/s Capstone Software Engineering-USA for the implementation and successful commissioning of Risk Based Inspection software. Corrosion data analyzed and criticality determination based on the corrosion mechanisms.
* The development of the Capstone software based on the Qatar Petroleum Requirements and the feedback.
* Testing of the Capstone modules and providing acceptance on the following modules.

* Planned, supervised and executed the population of the equipment mechanical, process, history, NDT and corrosion data as per the Capstone philosophy. Total 1003 equipments from the Crude, Condensate and Fluid catalyst cracking refineries were populated and uploaded in the Risk based Inspection software.
* Populated all the Risk based inspection data based on the Capstone philosophy and the RBI requirements.
* Pipeline Circuitization procedure was formulated and pipelines were grouped as per the Circuitization.
* Criticality run of the equipment after successful populating the required RBI data. Equipments pertaining to the Distillation, Hydrotreater, Platformer, Amine treating and Isomerization units were prioritize based on the criticality run.
* Boilers and heaters integrity assessment were conducted for the utility plants.
* Cross country pipeline was assessed based on the Capstone pipeline module.
* Defined the Inspection planning based on the criticality analysis. This included prioritizing and planning the equipments for the shutdown and defining their inspection requirements.
* Continuously revalidating the equipment criticality based on the shutdown observations and findings.
* Generate the equipment and PSV inspection and calibration reports and maintain the history of equipment.
* On the continuous basis generate the NCR for the inspection, recommendations and the repairs.
* Conduct trend analysis and fitness analysis on plant and equipments.
* Liaise with the concerned departments to prepare shutdown planning. Arrange the resources to qualify inspection requirements. Prepare shutdown report with findings and economical recommendations.
* Witness hydro/pneumatic test of Heat Exchangers, Air Coolers and Pressure Vessels as per the design code. Rectify the operational constrains occurred during the pressure test.
* Witness and certify the calibration of pressure relief valves as per API code.
* Ensure quality control during the project execution and commissioning. Warrant the compliance of project specification. Prepare punch points for deviations and ensure the rectification.
* Review plant change request for applicable corrosion engineering compliance and material suitability. Issue recommendations as per the design and material codes. Review and approve P&ID in compliance with design codes.
* Approves material suitability under diverse operating conditions. Review material selection diagram for the projects. Contribute in material selection based on plant experience.
* Review contracts and contractors performance to ensure specified technical requirements and compliance of corporate and International codes and standards.
* Participate in technical reviews, including new technology evaluation.
* Investigate failures and recommend optimum material. Recommend elimination of failure contributing factors.
* Commissioned Nuclear Alloy Analyzer - Metallurgist Pro (TN Technologies-USA). Operate for material identification and tracibility.
* Inspect and accept the materials received at warehouse. Establish corrosion protection of stored materials.
* Supervise pigging operation of the underground cross country pipelines. Interpret data and identify repair measure.
* Propose and control budget to ensure compliance with company directives. Plan for department resources and allocate the operation and capital budget for corrosion monitoring projects and instrument up-gradation.
* Implement cathodic protection system for underground pipeline and storage tanks bottom protection. Audit the cathodic protection system at prescribed interval.
* Corrosion assessment of process and utilities streams. Devise predictive and preventive mechanism based on corrosion trend analysis.
* Recommend coating specification and Inspection. Test coating integrity using high voltage holiday test.
* Recommend staff levels to achieve optimum cost effectiveness. Supervise plant personnel, direct activities and impart necessary training for human resources development.
* Make provisions for accruing new instruments and plan for the schedule calibration.
* Work harmoniously in multi cultural/multi lingual expatriate work setup. Show respect and concern for environmental protection and ecological conservation.
* Conversant and familiar with ASME, ASNT, ASTM, TEMA, NACE, AWS, API and other international design, fabrication and materials standards.
