Chief Design Engineer

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
To work as a Lead Engineer leading and managing a team of engineers and draftsmen for various projects. Overall responsibility for design and detailed engineering activities for the project including Construction Supervision and Pre-Commissioning activities.

PROJECTS HANDLED

1) Amam, Saudi Arabia: Basic engineering and detailed cost estimation for the instrumentation system.

2) Reliance Industries Ltd., Hazira: LPG handling facility and SBM terminal project. The project included design, engineering & commissioning of terminal automation system for road tanker loading of LPG.

3) Reliance Industries Ltd., Hazira phase II: Was involved in design engineering & procurement of terminal automation system. The system designed was semi automatic. Products handled - benzene, toluene, C8 stream, C6-C8 raffinate, DEG and MEG. Also worked on, the Fire & Gas detection system for the tank farm, product handling and storage facility.

4) Chiyoda Corporation, Japan: Lead Engineer for basic design engineering for cost estimation and for preparing the technical bid for the Methanol, MTBE, Offsites & Utility facilities @ Qatar, for the client M/S QAFAC.

5) Garware Chemicals Ltd., Aurangabad: Lead Engineer for the 60,000 DMT plant. The highlights of the project were MAX1000 DCS, Honeywell Fail Safe PLC system for the ESD. Majority of the field instrumentation handled were steam or hot oil jacketed due to the nature of the process fluids.
6) Reliance Petroleum Ltd., Jamnagar: Worked as lead engineer for the road and rail terminal portion of the US $ 2.5 billion, 450,000 barrels/day (15 million TPA) Refinery project. This project was executed in co-ordination with the main engineering contractor, Bechtel, UK.

Responsible for the conceptual engineering and flow/loading optimisation schemes for wagon loading. The system being designed is fully automatic involving no manual intervention for the operation. The design included from the concept to commissioning of the automation system. Products handled are LPG, MS, HSD, SKO, ATF, Naphtha, Benzene, Paraxylene and Orthoxylene. The various systems worked on included DCS, PLC, Emergency shutdown system, Fire and gas detection system, Tank farm management system, Custody transfer metering system, Intelligent MOV systems. The job also involved integration of various sub-systems detailed above and integration with the main refinery control system.

7) Cochin Refineries Ltd. Cochin: Lead Engineer for DHDS, Hydrogen, Utilities and Offsites facilities. L&T executed the project on LSTK basis.

Responsible for the detailed engineering of the entire project. This project was a fast track contract under the directives of The Supreme Court of India and was monitored by the Ministry of Petroleum. The engineering was completed on time and without incurring any penalties stipulated. The various sub-systems included the DCS, PLC, tank farm management system, Gas detection system and other field instruments.

8) BP Project: Completed the preliminary cost estimate for LPG unloading, storage, transportation and bottling facilities at various sites in Northern India.

9) Reliance Petroleum Ltd., Jamnagar: Completed detailed engineering & design for propylene unloading facility.

10) BASF, at Geismar, Louisiana, USA: This project was executed on a work-share basis for Jacobs Engineering USA. This was the first project executed on work-sharing concept. The project was designed using 3-D PDS modelling and the instrumentation design work was carried out on the PDS model.

Worked as Lead engineer for control systems engineering and design. Completed the work within the approved budget and ahead of schedule.

Visited & worked with Jacobs Engineering USA. For 3 months to finalise the work-share methodology through various communication networks using a document management system utilising Lotus Notes. Also trained and worked on IEDA software for Instrument design. Participated in the Front-End Loading activities with Jacob engineering and BASF.

Worked at Jacob Engineering, USA for a period of 8 weeks to participate in finalising the instrument specifications during detailed engineering in consultation with client.

11) Chemplast Sanmar Ltd, Chennai: This is a PMC (Project Management Consultant) contract.

Involved in the preparation of NIT specifications, Evaluation of LSTK bids and recommendation of LSTK contractor. Phase-II of the project will involve the activities on approvals of the LSTK contractors detailed engineering activities.

12) Reliance Petroleum Ltd., Jamnagar:
Worked on the preliminary studies for the marketing terminals being proposed at various locations in India. Identified the interface requirements with the pipeline SCADA systems for smooth and safe operation of the system.
