Course Work Projects

1) Drill String Design
* Design drilling assembly and determine the rotary drill rig capacity and limitations for a rig to drill a new well at the selected field.

Calculate forces on the drill string.
* Designed and developed a hydraulics program to determine pressure drop in a wellbore.
* Designed the most suitable combination string for the intermediate casing and compared results with the Lone Star Steel's casing design program.

2) Pipeline Technology
* Pressure calculations in extraction and transportation of natural gas.
* Based on which is most economic, a plan of action was developed to maintain contract production rate (a) Drilling additional wells (b)Stimulation or skin the wells (c) Install a compressor at the field processing plant.

3) Pressure Transient Analysis
* Investigate transient rate-decline test for a gas well with constant bottom-hole pressure, wellbore storage, and high velocity flow effects; determine parameters of interest which are formation permeability, non-Darcy flow coefficient, and mechanical skin factor.

4) Well Testing Analysis
* Well test analysis of six real wells was conducted and results were verified with Schlumberger's Eclipse.
* Line fitting and type curve analysis was conducted to identify initial time, middle time and boundary effects.

5) Design piping & surface production equipments of well
* Design the downhole tubing, packer, and other surface and subsurface assembly.
* An artificial lift system was selected to maintain the bottomhole pressure later in the life of the reservoir.
* Suitable packer completion was selected and then determined the length changes and/or forces for the packer under the following conditions: 1. producing with natural flow. 2. Stimulation treatment.
* Nodal analysis was conducted, using bottom hole as the solution node to determine the most efficient tubing size for the hydrocarbon production.

6) Reservoir Simulation and Modeling
* Calculation of temperatures in 342 cellblocks that are unknown in a reservoir was carried out using mathematical flow solution methods under the given constraints.
* Isopac mapping was used to determine depth, porosity, and permeability of the reservoir.
* Designed reservoir simulator using visual basic.

7) Reservoir Estimation by volumetric and material balance.
* Hydrocarbon estimation was carried out by volumetric and material balance methods.
* Economic feasibility checks of drilling additional wells in the reservoir considering productivity index and fixed cost.

8) Gas Storage
* Determine condensate production in a gas reservoir.
* A simulator was used to find the gas and condensate production before and after the mixing stages.
* The Net Cash Flow (NCF) and Net Present Value (NPV) for different interest rates were computed.

Tasks and responsibilities: Developed a simple and reliable tool for water production predictions in horizontal wells. A unique set of type curves were generated and based on it a correlation for the peak water rate was also developed in order to forecast production in the absence of any production data.
