SHELL PETROLEUM DEVELOPMENT COMPANY PORT HARCOURT NIGERIA – November 1992 to date
2004 – Date: Project Leader/Manager
Projects currently being handled
1. Bonny/Kalaekule integrated oil and gas development: The project covers the development of several offshore gas & oil fields in the K Block (Kalaekule, Koronama, Kugbe) off the coast of Bonny to produce 200-300 MMstb recoverable oil volumes. (Project value $1billion)
2. Bonny Crude Loadding platform demanning: Engineering, Procurement, Installation & Commissioning of demanning of a crude loading platform in 27 metres of water off the coast of Bonny. The project comprised Engineering, Procurement, Installation & Commissioning work to achieve: remote operation of 36" motorised ball valves via telemetry; primary power supply from Solar system, emergency power supply from diesel driven generators and new distribution system; equipment Module and Temporary Shelter for equipment and maintenance staff; Intruder prevention and monitoring (CCTV) system; boat landing modification; navigational aids (marine lantern, foghorn, beacon) replacement and miscellaneous structural renovation to ensure structural integrity of the platform for the next 25 years operation. (Project value $35 million)
Responsibilities and accountabilities
* Participate in front end activities such as opportunity framing, project initiation to concept selection, schedule and cost assurance reviews.
* Develop the project contract strategy, manage the development of the technical scope of work ensuring adherence to the appropriate Company, Group and International standards and specifications
* Issue ITT packages, evaluate the contract bids, obtain necessary approvals and award the contracts to the successful bidders.
* Manage the activities of the Project Team and the Contractors, so as to complete the construction and commissioning of the project facilities, in accordance with the specified standards and specifications, on time and within budget.
* Manage contracts as per the SPDC Contract Management Guideline with special emphasis on the HSE issues.
* Ensure effective stakeholder involvement in all relevant aspects of the projects.
* Manage the QA/QC process during the construction phase and demonstrate the Technical Integrity of the facilities.
* Maintain good communications with the relevant Communities and Statutory bodies, and ensure that all required permits are obtained as required
* Manage the interfaces between the various Contractors, and with other SPDC departments and Project Groups, to ensure effective co-ordination of construction activities.
* Ensure adherence to Company's HSE and technical policies and specifications, without affecting the Contractor schedule.
* Effectively manage concurrent work and the interfaces between existing facilities and the new development, to achieve safe tie-ins and minimal production disruption.
* Manage contractual scope of work, and schedule to minimise variations and claims.
* Engage Asset teams to ensure a high level of operational readiness, and a seamless start up and handover of the new facilities.
* Direct supervision of several engineers and management of large number of contractor and sub-contractor personnel.
2000 – 2004: Senior Project Engineer
Senior project engineer on a multi-discipline complex shallow offshore platform upgrade project which was producing 30,000bbls/day. The project involved fabrication and installation of a new 270 ton jacket, rehabilitation of process facilities comprising: three stage separation of oil/gas, fuel gas systems, crude export pumping capacity, flare system, metering skids, installation of equipment items, installation of new electrical system, rejuvenation of instrumentation, replacement/modification of process piping, installation of 5km of umbllicals.
(Project value $150 million)
Responsibilities
Responsible for provision of Project management and Engineering expertise through all phases of the project from design, procurement, construction, commissioning, hand-over and initial operations. Ensuring the Project is designed and executed to specified Shell and international standards and meets the objectives of the Project Execution Plan. Planning and scheduling, monitoring of project capital expenditure, supervision of fabrication of jacket at sub-contractor's yard in Lowestoft United Kingdom; direct supervision of 6 engineers/inspectors and management of numerous contractor/sub-contractor personnel peaking at about 500 during construction period.
1997 – 1999: Lead Project Engineer
Lead project Engineer on Alakiri Gas Plant Debottlenecking and rehabilitation project. This gas plant was one of the major plants supplying gas to two major customers for production of fertilizer and aluminium. The project involved increasing the capacity of the gas plant from 90million SCFD to 120 million SCFD to meet increased demand of the customers. The project scope covered: Installation of three new heat exchanger skids; Installation of three new emergency shutdown valve skids; installation of new inlet manifolds; modification of free liquid knockout vessel internals to meet new maximum demand; replacement of internal of low temperature separator vessels to maintain gas specification; installation of two new inlet gas / sales gas heat exchangers; Installation of new flare spillover skid; installation of new high Pressure flare stack; replacement of damaged existing low pressure flare tip; various civil works including relocation of road within plant, extension of perimeter fencing; instrumentation upgrade of plant (replacement of all obsolete instrumentation); rehabilitation of plant utilities such as generators, pumps, air compressors, water bath heaters and glycol reboiler system.
(Project value was $30 million).
Responsibilities included leading a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to oversee all aspects of project delivery. This included development of design/specifications and procurement for equipment and piping; monitoring of yard fabrication and supervision of on-site construction activities; planning, scheduling and implementation of construction/commissioning activities; provision of support to operations personnel in plant /system optimization and integrity assurance. The project was completed on schedule and within budget.
1996-1997: Asset Team Project Engineer
Activities carried out during this period include:
* Pipe laying operations of several hundred kilometers of 4 inch and 6 inch flowlines in the swamps- including cleaning, gauging, hydrotesting operations.
* Minor modifications of oil and gas facilities such as flowstations/gas plants to optimize oil and gas production.
* Replacement and installation of equipment such as gas compressors, pumps, tanks, turbines, sump caissons and heat exchangers.
* Yard fabrication activities (boat landings, heli-decks and piping spools).
* Risers and tie-in spool installations.
Responsibilities included development of contracting strategies, resource and contract planning, preparation and evaluation of tender documents, supervision of project execution, planning, progress monitoring/ reporting and cost management.
1993-1995: Pipeline Field Engineer
Projects handled during this period include:
* Construction of two major pipelines (36 inch and 20inch diameters) on land with associated manifold stations and several river crossings (Project value $250 million)
* Decommissioning of unserviceable pipeline and flowlines
* Preservation of newly completed 36" pipeline not yet ready to be put into use
Responsibilities included project execution, planning, progress monitoring/ reporting, cost management. Development of contracting strategies, resource and contract planning, preparation and evaluation of tender documents. Supervision of site activities including: site clearing, coating of linepipes, pipe hauling and stringing of pipes, trenching, welding of linepipes, NDT, field joint coating, backfilling of trenches, 3km of river crossings, manifold works, cathodic protection works, construction of access roads, decommissioning of old lines and commissioning of new lines. The projects were completed on time and within budget.
Nov 1992-April 1993: Project Engineer
Project engineer on Upgrade of Bomu Gas Compressor station
Responsibilities included project execution, planning, progress monitoring/ reporting, cost management. Development of contracting strategies, resource and contract planning, preparation and evaluation of tender documents and supervision of site activities.
