Technology Development & Data Updating
Overall management and supervision of technology development & data updating department including review of reports received from Local Gas Distribution Companies (LDC¡¦s) describing their activities. Data stipulated in such reports is processed and analyzed for the purpose of issuing periodic and non-periodic reports to be raised to the top management inside EGAS and the Ministry of Petroleum (MoP).
Assignments included:
1. Supervising the preparation of daily, monthly, and annual reports reflecting the activities of 10 Local Gas Distribution Companies (LDC¡¦s) and 6 Natural Gas Vehicle Companies (NGV¡¦s). These companies are either partially owned by or under the supervision of EGAS.
2. Taking part in setting policies and strategies to be applied by affiliate gas companies aiming at making the best utilisation of local gas resources and the expansion of converting industrial & residential fossil fuel consumers to use natural gas inleau of LPG, fuel oil, gas oil and gasoline.
3. Preparing plans and suggesting applicable solutions aiming at helping NGV's promote the expansion of converting vehicles to use compressed natural gas (CNG) instead of gasoline.
4. Taking part in technical committees formed for implementing studies of natural gas and LNG projects in Egypt.

1994 - 2000 Suez Oil Processing Co. (SOPC)
Mech. Design Dept. Head
Overall management and supervision of mechanical design department including detailed engineering and construction requirements to execute in-house new installations and/or modifications to the existing facilities which include 3 atmospheric distillation units, 2 vapour recovery units, a vacuum distillation unit, a catalytic reformer, a delayed coking complex, a lube oil complex, water treatment and boiler units.
Assignments included:
5. Preparation of invitations to bid and contractual documents for turn- key projects called by SOPC for the execution of new expansions. This included a 42000 mtpd hydrogen production plant, a 98 mtpd sulphur recovery plant and 4 process fired heaters of different duties.
6. Evaluation of offers submitted by international bidders for the execution of the a/m projects in order to select the most appropriate ones which best meet the requirements of the company, after making deep and comprehensive technical negotiations with all bidders.
7. Review and comment on design and drawings associated with offers submitted by bidders to assure sound engineering, compliance with international standards & codes and correct execution of projects.
8. Supervision of 12 engineers and draftsmen including evaluation for promotion and merit increases.
9. Supervision and co-ordination of annual budget of the company with full co-ordination with operations and safety departments for their requirements.
10. Acting as SOPC representative in the inspection of new equipment and materials purchased from suppliers outside Egypt.
11. Acting as an engineering consultant for some Egyptian engineering firms to supervise the preparation of offers submitted by them to clients for new projects and/or revamping works in refining & petrochemical industries.

1991 - 1994 Suez Oil Processing Co. (SOPC)
Design & Specifications Section Head
Specialised in the design, specifications, management, procurement and construction of refinery facilities and materials.
Assignments included:
1. Putting full details of the mechanical design (including drawings and calculations) of pressure vessels in accordance with ASME section viii, division 1 code.
2. Putting full details of the mechanical design (including drawings and calculations) of shell & tube heat exchangers acc. To ASME sec. Viii / 1 and TEMA / R.
3. Preparing detailed construction drawings for both fixed roof and floating roof oil & oil products storage tanks according to API std 650, besides the sticky follow up of tanks erection works executed by contractors to check all design details.
4. Preparing technical specifications and tender documents intended for the engineering, procurement and construction of various projects and materials by co-operative association with other engineering departments. This included flaring systems, complete heat exchanger sets, tube bundles, air coolers, pressure vessels, safety valves, rotary drum dewaxing filters, piping and piping components.

1982 - 1991 Cairo Oil Refining Co. (CORC)
Mechanical Engineer
Worked for more than 9 years in the engineering office which was responsible for the procurement of all equipment and materials, launching invitations to bid for new projects and putting detailed engineering for refinery equipment & systems related to new projects and/or modifications executed by CORC staff, in addition to the engineering and fabrication of equipment for the account of other refineries and petrochemical companies making benefit of the large capabilities provided in CORC workshop.
Assignments included:
1. Putting fully detailed mechanical design of pressure vessels, distillation columns with internals, shell & tube heat exchangers and piping systems as part of the construction of 3 new distillation units and a vapour recovery unit. These units were 100% internally engineered, mainly fabricated and completely installed by CORC staff within the period of 1982 - 1989. Basic engineering of these units was accomplished by the process engineering staff of CORC, while detailed engineering and material procurement were done by the engineering office staff of which I¡¦ve been a member for 91/2 years.
2. Preparing technical specifications & tender documents intended for the supply of various refinery equipment and materials such as fired heaters, heat exchangers, air coolers, desalters, pressure vessels, safety valves, piping, fittings, valves, rolled plates,...etc. According to American standards & codes: API, ASME, TEMA, ASTM & ANSI.
3. Evaluating offers submitted by international bidders for the supply of the a/m equipment & materials to select the successful candidate.
4. Designing and running computer programmes in BASIC for the design of shell & tube heat exchangers and pressure vessels according to ASME sec. Viii, div. 1 and TEMA class ¡* R¡¨.
5. Day-to-day follow up of the fabrication and installation of equipment designed by me during all fabrication and construction phases, providing engineering support to the working teams to ensure that all design details have been met and giving instant advice to solve emerging troubles to ensure economic and efficient operation of equipment.
