To manage and execute the safe maintenance & operation of the crane contract with Shell at both Sarawak and Sabah offshore locations.

Handal Offshore Services Sdn. Bhd., Kemaman, Terengganu, Malaysia

Position Held: Crane & Lifting Specialist/Manager

Reporting To: General and Regional Managers.

Duties:

Employed to write and compile the Crane, Lifting Operations and Maintenance Philosophy for Petronas Carigali Sdn. Bhd., now called the Lifting Equipment Management System (LEMS).
This document consisted of and includes the maintenance and operation of all types of lifting equipment, e.g. offshore cranes, mobile cranes, lifeboat davits, loose lifting equipment etc. and the standards and procedures to be used.
Once the LEMS was completed and handed over to PCSB, I was then involved with the manufacture, assembly and FAT testing of 2 x new Seacrane R450-100 Cranes for Shell Sarawak, which were the first of this kind to be manufactured and installed anywhere in the world.
I installed, commissioned and tested both of these new cranes for Sarawak Shell at their F23 P-A and DP-A Platforms in Sarawak East Malaysia.
Just recently in April 2006 I installed the 3rd Seacrane R450-100 for Shell on the F6 Platform.
I was also heavily involved with the manufacture, assembly and FAT testing of 6 other new cranes for PCSB, Shell, GPS and EMEPMI.
I was also involved with the manufacture, assembly and testing of a Personnel Transfer Bridge for Talisman Malaysia South Angsi Field.
Other duties include all crane related projects/tasks for PCSB, EPMI, Talisman & Shell, also assisted with the project management for the construction, assembly and commissioning of our new range of offshore pedestal cranes for various clients.
I also provide technical support & assistance to our various clients to resolve their crane and lifting related issues.

After returning from Brazil, I went back to my original position as Field Operations Supervisor/Technical Manager with Offshore Crane Engineering in Aberdeen, Scotland, until the company went into receivership and was sold.

Position Held: Offshore Crane Specialist/Technical Consultant

Reporting To: PCSB Asset Management & Asset Maintenance Engineers

I was contracted to Petronas through OCE's agent "Romstar" in Kuala Lumpur.

Duties:

Employed to manage and co-ordinate all crane maintenance in PCSB/PMO operations performed by the crane contractor (Handal Offshore Services).
To ensure all work on all 33 Petronas cranes, that was carried out by the crane contractor was done on schedule and as per work scope, and was also carried out to API 2C and 2D Standards.
To create and continuously update a crane database, which contains all equipment that is fitted to each crane.
To reschedule the existing PPM's and ensure the new schedule is carried out as planned.
To ensure when a crane is taken ashore for a 100% overhaul, that all parts are available and to also ensure the work is carried out as per scope of work.
Oversee the services of the crane contractor during on and offshore work.
Report to the Asset Managers and keep them up to date on the progress.
Provide and carry out a detailed annual inspection on each crane as well as ensuring all annual load tests were carried out as and when required.
On the inspections, all critical issues found, were reported to the Asset Management on my return onshore and to all Platform Management prior to departure from the platform.
From the inspections a scope of work would be drafted for the contractor to quote and plan the repair work required for that specific crane.
Furnish monthly reports to all 4 Assets on the work carried out in the previous month.
Provide technical advice on crane design, operation and maintenance and recommend/implement improvements.
Develop repair procedures for all crane components.
Carry out a detailed stock check of all crane spares kept at Petronas Warehouse, review all spares and advise Asset Management on the spare parts to be kept offshore and at their stores onshore.
Provide recommendations on the timescale for each component changeout.
Develop Butt Lists for repairs required and ensure that these lists are kept updated.
To ensure all contractors equipment is shipped offshore on time for the work to commence.
Analyse the downtime of each of the 33 cranes, and report to Asset.
Ensure JSA's (Job Safety Analysis) are carried out prior to any job starting offshore.
Develop standard reporting formats for all relative crane repairs and issues.

1997 to 2002

Offshore Crane Engineering Limited, Dyce, Aberdeen

Position Held: Field Operations Supervisor/Technical Manager

Reporting To: Managing Director and Engineering Manager

Duties:

All relevant crane repair's both on and offshore including but not limited to e.g. troubleshooting hydraulics, winch unit, slew bearing and boom changeouts, together with crane operation duties for various clients in various different locations in the North Sea and various different countries worldwide.
Carrying out day to day maintenance and annual inspections on various Platform, Semi Submersible, and FPSO's, Ships and Jack up Rig cranes including but not limited to the following makes, Liebherr, Favco, National, Stothert & Pitt, FMC and Seatrax to API Directives 2C and 2D, and British Standards.
The standards used depended on the clients and Certifying Authorities requirements.
This involved regular dismantling, inspection, and reassembling of a various range of winch drives, crane structures and rigging.
I was also in charge of crane installation, commissioning as well as crane removal.

My position involved supervising/managing a variety of crane projects in the UK and worldwide.

As the owners of Bucyrus Erie Marine Cranes (BMC) a lot of the work overseas was done on these cranes as part of our service.

To supervise all company personnel while working on specific projects on site, offshore or overseas, including assignment of duties to personnel.
Liaison with Client Staff and Management, Project Engineers and Job Officers to ensure work instructions are fully understood.
Complying with all QA/HSE and environmental regulations and company procedures.

Other duties include planning of offshore contracts, maintenance plans, personnel assignments to specific tasks, writing and checking of procedures required, arranging tool-box talks and liaising with engineers and job officers managing the contracts onshore.

I also had to, as part of my job provide technical support & assistance to our various oil company clients to resolve any of their crane and lifting related issues.

Maintaining regular contact with onshore management whilst offshore and liaising with corresponding client platform personnel. Maintaining all site records of work, including observation of personnel competence as part of my duties as the companies NVQ Assessor; health, safety and environmental performance, and ensuring of compliance with agreed client contractual requirements.

Compile all records upon job completion, assisting with documentation package compilation and contributing in any necessary post-contract enquiries and corrective actions.
This also includes attending meetings with the clients to de-brief them on the project.

Also include in my duties was the writing of and implementation of Preventative Maintenance Routines for various clients and crane types.

1996 to 1997

Coflexip Stena Offshore Limited, Westhill, Aberdeen

Position Held: Mechanic/Hydraulic Supervisor for Gas & Hydraulics

Reporting to: Owner & Manager of Gas & Hydraulics

Duties:

Complete assembly of hydraulic winches and power packs with open and closed loop circuits with both electric and diesel prime movers.
Once these packs had been built, the systems were pressure and function tested to ensure correct operation before being allowed to go offshore.
Duties also included strip-down, inspection and repair of hydraulic power packs, pumps and motors of various different makes i.e. Denison, Rexroth, Sauer Sunstrand, Commercial etc.
Repairs were also carried to various types of cranes onboard Coflexip Stena's fleet of dive support ships.

1996 to 1996

Sparrows Offshore Services Limited, Bridge of Don, Aberdeen

Position Held: Lead Crane Technician

Reporting To: Foreman and Offshore Field Supervisor

Workshop Duties:

Carry out mechanical repairs to various crane components and hydraulic trouble-shooting.
Repair work on engines, hydraulic pumps, motors and gearboxes, through to full crane re-assembly, trial running, commissioning and load testing.

Offshore Duties: (Adhoc)

Carry out general crane repairs and refurbishment work offshore on a variety of different crane types, i.e. Favco, National, Stothertt & Pitt and FMC etc.
