Section Leader (Well Integrity), ADMA-OPCO, Abu Dhabi, UAE
Assignment duties include:
* Update and maintain company's Well Integrity (WI) standards, WI manual and ensuring well operations are in compliance with these standards.
* Assure well life cycle integrity to make sure wells are designed, constructed, handed over, operated, maintained and abandoned according to standards and issue WI certificate after new wells are drilled and worked over successfully.
* Review and maintain routine summary records for wells to ensure all necessary data collection and its quality check takes place properly and reported in a timely fashion for management.
* Represent the company in meetings, forum, workshops etc. regarding WI issues with share holders, operating companies and the industry.
* Justify, create and manage WI related projects and contracts which include project justification, budget estimation, service-providers market survey and technical evaluation, and establishing/managing contracts.
* Participate in panel interviews and selection of new comers, coach and mentor subordinates/young engineers and perform their appraisals/evaluation for professional career development.
* Investigate any WI anomalies, developing contingency plans, monitoring repair and maintenance performance and recommending improvements to materials and operating practices.
* Liaison with the drilling and completion teams to ensure completion designs fully meet WI requirements, account for operational experience and provide technical and operational support as required.
* Application and development of technology and best practices in WI management.
* Assessment of any gaps in WI provision and recommendation for mitigation. This includes regular site visits.
* Review non-routine well operations, ensure proper procedures and dispensations are adequately reviewed, valid and in place to avoid WI related potential hazards.
* Issue monitoring and testing programs to investigate and evaluate WI status and ensure data gathering, QC and proper capture in the database.
* Ensure integrity testing and maintenance of Xmas tree and wellheads, well annuli pressure management, down-hole completion integrity through periodic testing and monitoring program, proper data gathering for corrosion and scale during routine well operation and workovers.
* Ensure wells are abandoned such that reservoir isolation is achieved and the well will not pose any hazard to HSE in future.
* Introduces new technology and procedures to assure company WI standards and operations are up to date and the industry best practices are implemented.
* Ensure strict adherence to company's safety standard/procedures by employees and contractors.
* Carry out risk assessment of particular operations, communicate to the operation personnel, reveal deficiencies and propose corrective measures.
* Prepare routine and special reports and presentations for management/share holders showing the improvements in WI developments and identify the deficiencies where the management help is required.
2. November 2003 – February 2007
Petroleum Engineer (Well Integrity), ADMA-OPCO, Abu Dhabi, UAE
Assignment duties included:
* Daily contact with field management/staff to coordinate WI issues, review daily rig activities and take pro-active approach to alert concerned departments of any shortfalls that may later adversely affect the WI.
* Gather WI data from individual well files and archives, quality control and ensure data management in the database
* Review and analyze the gathered data, Identify and prioritize the wells with apparent integrity problems for detail review and risk analysis, identify risks associated and perform risk ranking, create risk management action plans, inform responsible parties for implementation and follow up the proper implementation.
* Participate in the investigation and reporting of major accidents, high potential incidents, makes necessary recommendation for improvement and conducts risk assessments and prepares special procedures for non-routine operations and activities.
* Frequent contact with Reservoir and Drilling Divisions personnel to coordinate matters related to Integrity, work over schedules, and WI certificates for new/worked over wells.
* Field visits to supervise/witness investigative/corrective work on wells and provide support to offshore personnel in investigating specific problems and recommend alternative course of action.
* Establish "Well history files" related to integrity issues and maintain for all the existing gas, oil and water wells
* Contacts with wellhead/downhole equipment vendors and contractors for information, expertise and services, on as required basis and ensure that they are fully aware of and adhere to Company safety rules, regulations and standards during related WI work.
* Assist Senior Petroleum Engineer (WI) in preparation of annual budget and routine field status report highlighting strong and weak areas.
* Investigate, implement, follow up and review the conducted monitoring surveys (e.g., annulus, temperature, hot tapping, VR plug removal, cavity test, etc.), to establish the WI status.
* Prepare periodic reports and presentations on well status, in co-ordination with field production and wire line supervisors.
* Review routine or special procedures and participate in risk assessment for related activities like safe emergency shutdown, removal and reinstallation of equipment and well securing.
3. July 1995 – October 2003
Senior Production Engineer/Field Manager, OGDCL, Pakistan
Worked as Senior Production Engineer and job responsibilities were:
* Supervise the activities of assigned personnel in the field. Evaluating and establishing work to be carried out, methodology, risk assessment, timing and follow up implemented programs.
* Worked as Field Manager for many oil and gas fields supervising and managing different operations activities associated with the field operations.
* Responsible for resource management and development of the fields, arranging and leading meetings with crude oil logistic and refining companies for revenue enhancement.
* Providing input to concerned personnel at company head office for the planning of future development of fields, annual budget, human resources development, etc.
* Discussing identified well production and integrity problems and suggesting possible solutions to head office.
* Reviewing and developing suitable assessment programs for new technology considerations, evaluate cost benefit analysis for various well concepts, establish component reliability requirements and provide cost and schedule estimates for completion activities.
* Checking procedures for work over operations of wells like perforations, nitrogen kick off, stimulation, well testing, etc. before execution by the service companies.
* Implementing safety plans in the field and feedback to head office for possible improvement in the plans.
* Preparing equipment requirements and providing detailed equipment specifications and requisitions, and ensure all ordered equipment meets specification.
* Developing plans for connection of new wells to the system, commissioning of new surface facilities, well monitoring, casing & completion integrity, water monitoring campaigns to ensure that wells are operated at optimal levels.
* Preparing programs for planned surveys, coordinating timing, equipment and manpower to ensure proper execution.
4. February 1993 – June 1995
Research Assistant, KFUPM, Saudi Arabia,
* Joined Petroleum Department of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia for pursuing Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering.
* Studied advanced courses in Reservoir/Production Engineering, EOR, Well Logging, Well Testing. The work involved extensive studies, computer assignments, presentations, peer reviews and discussions.
* Assisted in different Petroleum industry projects like rock mechanics, special core analysis, etc. at the Research Institute of the University.
* Supervised and assisted undergraduate students in performing laboratory experimental work and assisted professors in evaluation of undergrad students for their assignments, tests and exams.
* Carried out the experimental cum simulated research thesis work which comprised a comparative study about recovery performance and relative permeabilities of single/composite cores. A simulation model and history matching technique was run to compare the experimental results with simulated results and an averaging technique was developed to compare the results of individual core plugs with composite core.
* The thesis report was compiled; peer reviewed and presented for the completion of Masters Degree requirements.
5. November 1988 – January 1993
Production/Completion Engineer, OGDCL, Pakistan:
Worked as Production/Completion Engineer at different oil/gas fields and drilling/work-over rigs and duties included
* Monitoring oil/gas/water production of wells, data gathering/record updating, and trend analysis, bringing any unusual observation and proposed action requirements to the attention of senior engineer.
* Monitoring crude oil transportation from field to refinery through tankers and pipelines after making sure of the quality and quantity control of their volumes, gravity and BS&W analysis.
* Preparing/forwarding daily well monitoring/production data for operated fields, current drilling operations and other reports to senior management, JV partners and regulators.
* Maintaining well files and identifying well problems to the senior engineers, assisting them to come up with possible solutions for work over and coordinating with other related departments.
* Providing drilling and operations history of offset wells to the head office engineers in order to complete proper prognosis and design of the new wells in the area.
* Writing procedures for upcoming field operations like well testing/ completion, wire line/ slick line and coiled tubing jobs.
* Supervising well intervention operations like well testing, production logging, wire line and slick line jobs in new and existing wells, providing field interpretation and evaluation of test results.
* Supervising work over operations (Squeeze cementing, running different completions, perforations, coil tubing/nitrogen kick off jobs, acid stimulation, well heads/Xmas tree installations).
* Preparing service contracts, coordinating with service companies for job schedules, equipment/material, and personnel mobilization to the field and field trials of different new surface and down hole equipment by the vendors.
* Financial and technical analysis for called bids of upcoming jobs. Post job invoice verifications.
* Attended many refresher courses in Petroleum Engineering, seminars, and workshops in town.
* Worked also as HSE engineer of the field and organized firefighting, safety, H2S-alive drills, refresher basic safety and technical courses for field personnel to promote their technical expertise in proper job handling.
