SR. PROCESS ENGINEER, DY. MANAGER /MANAGER(PETROCHEM), INDIAN OIL CORPORATION (1980 – 1994)

Worked in Haldia Refinery of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. in Process Engineering (OFFSITES). Conversant with activities for distillation units, vessels, tanks, pumps, offsite storage and despatch facilities. Besides routine activities(Routine process monitoring jobs like Test runs of units, Heat exchanger survey, sulfiding, etc), handled the on going project activities during the period.

PROCESS ENGINEERING PROJECT ACTIVITIES:

Some of the Projects activities handled during the Process Engineering period in Indian Oil and KNPC are as follows:

1) Modification of two Sulfur recovery units (SRUs) to prevent the perennial leakage problem in NO-4 condensers in the SRUs: Conceptualization, process design, Process Package, support to Engineering staff, commissioning.

2) Process Design Package for Oxygen Enrichment of SRU- 267MT/Day: Subject handled with consultant for the revamp of existing SRU involving, Design Basis, Design check, coordination with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering within refinery.

3) Process Design Package for Oxygen Enrichment of SRU- 400MT / Day: Subject handled with consultant for the revamp of existing SRU involving, Design Basis, Design check, coordination with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering within refinery.

4) Process Design Package of 140 MT/Day SRU: Subject handled with consultant for the new SRU involving Design Basis, Design check, coordination with various agencies.

5) New Tail Gas Treating unit in the refinery, prefeasibility /screening study, technology selection.

6) New Gas Oil desulphurization unit Amine system: Subject handled with consultant for new unit, Design Basis, Process Design Package, coordination with various disciplines, precommissioning/commissioning support.

7) Conducting Hazop study for the Sulfur recovery units, Tail Gas treating units and thereafter implementation of recommendations- Process design, support to Engineering staff, commissioning.

8) Total Facility for production and dispatch of new grade of aviation fuel: Grass root Facility in IOC Haldia refinery. Complete Process design, Process Package, support to Engineering staff, commissioning.
Additionally quality control checks with specialists during the entire period of commissioning, first batch production and dispatch.

9) New rail Tank wagon loading gantry with additional tankage and all allied facilities: Complete design, Process Package, support to Engineering staff, commissioning.
10) Product Piping for tanker loading facility for new oil jetty: Complete design, Process Package.

11) Installation of Acid flare with connecting headers: Process design, Process Package, support to Engineering staff, commissioning.

12) Augmentation of Filtration system for Refinery Amine system: Complete Process design, Process Package, support to Engineering staff, commissioning.

13) Acid gas recovery system from acid flare header: Process design, Process Package.

14) Augmentation of Bitumen Production and dispatch and drum filling facilities.

15) Total Review of Refinery Amine system and identifying measures to improve performance of Amine system to eliminate foaming and Corrosion problems.

16) Identification and implementation of measures to minimize Amine Loss in the refinery.

17) Checking and resizing of breathing facilities of all offsite storage tanks in the refinery
18) Optimisation of tower operation and reduction of reboiler duty.

19) Coordination with various Internationally renowned process Licensors for major projects.
20) Conducting Performance Guarantee/acceptance test run for new units.
21) Hazop Study of new units
22) RBI Workshop (Reliability based Inspection) of process units.
23) Emergency scenario Identification of Process units and preparedness procedure

*Liaison jobs with various statutory bodies/ regulatory authorities like:

Dept. of Explosives Govt. of India for obtaining construction and commissioning approval for projects under Petroleum rules,
Static and Mobile Pressure vessel rules (unfired)¨ and compliance of the rules pertaining to the refinery.
Tariff Advisory committee for Insurance, Govt. of India for obtaining approval for installation of fire fighting facilities.

PETROCHEMICALS / PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT / COSTING:
AT INDIAN OIL HEAD OFFICE (MUMBAI):

Development of Petrochemical feed stock products, Lining up new Industry customer for the same and total coordination of the same with refinery head quarters and or regional offices. Was responsible for the related activities and was supported by the four regional (located in North, East, West and South India) office stuffs and the divisional offices further down the line. Job involved extensive client contact and coordination, leading the regional field teams with suitable guidelines to achieve the corporate goal.

a) Identification of new petrochemical feedstocks and other specialities products based on potential available with various refineries.
b) Negotiating with prospective customer Industries on feed stock supplies, finalizing Agreements and implementation.
c) Product Pricing: Review of various petrochemical / Free Trade Products and and implement price revision of products.
d) Distribution of specialities products e) Arranging Import of specility products to meet the shortages in the country.
f) Costing / Import Parity Pricing for various products

Dealt with almost all major Petrochemical plants in India in connection with the above activities.

BARAUNI REFINERY / BIHAR, INDIA (1981-1985)

Worked as Production Engineer in Kerosene Treating Unit, Barauni Oil Refinery of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, for 4 years in the capacity of Independent in charge of the shift. Responsible for operation of the unit(Liquid/liquid extraction ) and connected offsite facilities and tank farm.
