EXPERIENCE
Employed as 5th Engineer on board vessel and after passing competency exam (CLASSIV-PART B) promoted to 4th Engineer and now working as 3rd Engineer – for efficient operation and maintenance and trouble shooting of the equipments fitted on board.
The following are my duties and responsibilities in the engine room of the ship.
* Hands on experience and having responsibility as an officer in charge of an engineering watch:
o Duties includes responsible for condition monitoring of ship running machinery like Main Propulsion, shafting and propeller, power generators, Pump, Boilers.
o Turbines, Purifiers, Air compressors, Distilling plant, Oily water separator, Fuel transfer system, water ballasting system, sewage treatment plant, central AC and Refrigeration plant, ship steering system, note down all parameters readings and recording in the engine log books, maintain the standard pressures, temperatures and safety of the running machineries.
* Responsible for repairs and maintenance of steam turbines, Boilers, Diesel Engines, Air Compressors, Pumps, Purifiers, AC and refrigeration compressors, Heat exchangers and condensers.
1. MAINTENANCE OF DIESEL ENGINES
Engine types: RND, RTA, MAN, B&W.
Running hours maintenance like changing of oils filters, fuel filters, air filter element, removal of injectors, fuel pumps for calibration and settings. Removal of cylinder heads, piston, liners and fitting – Removal and service of oil coolers, water cooler air coolers, refitting and testing. Removal of jacket cooling water pumps, sea water cooling pump and turbo charger for seal changing. Setting of tappet clearance and measuring crankshaft deflection of engine and prepare the report. Carry out load trials for diesel engine on completion of minor and major overhauling. Complete Decarbonisation of heavy 2 stroke and 4 stroke engines.
2. MAINTENANCE OF BOILERS
Boiler types: AALBORG – Water tube boilers
WATSHNICCH – smoke tube boilers
Running hour maintenance like pressure testing of boiler, external and internal cleaning of boilers, chemical cleaning, periodic inspection of boiler and furnace. Flashing of Boilers after survey, preparation for boiler survey, Periodic bottom blow down and scum blow down. Boiler gauge glass blowing off in every watch. Removal, repairing and setting boiler mountings like gauge glass, feed regulators, valves, soot blowers, air cocks, blow down and run down valves. Removal of burners, replace nozzles, refitting and realignment inside the furnace. Removal, repair and setting of fuel pumps, feed water pump and force draught blowers. Operation and setting of pneumatic control equipments of boilers. Setting and repairing of boilers safety valves.
3. MAINTENANCE OF STEAM TURBINES
Turbine Type: SAKI-9000 RPM (NORMAL RUNNING CONDITION)
Running hour maintenance like checking of axial float of turbine rotor, bridge gauge reading of bearings, Turbine rotor clearances, thrust pads clearances, operation and setting of over speed governors, control valves, changing of lube oil, changing of oil filters. Removal of bearings for inspection and renewal of bearing if damaged. Open turbine casing for internal inspection.
4. MAINTENANCE OF PUMPS
Pump Type: Reciprocating and Centrifugal pumps.
Screw and Gear pumps.
Dismantling and reassembling of pump, changing of mechanical seals, sealing ring, impeller, shaft, bush, setting of speed in case of governor control pumps, changing of bearings, changing of sleeves, greasing, changing of pressure gauges, pipes, valves.
5. MAINTENANCE OF AIR COMPRESSORS
Compressor Type: Single Piston Double Acting Compressor
HAMWORTY-ENGLAND, GOODWILL.
Running hour maintenance like changing of oil, oil filters, air filters, oil separations, pipes, drain valves pipes. In reciprocating compressors changing of H.P. and L.P. Valves, bearings, removal of lube oil pump for repair and refitting. Checking safety cutouts.
6. MAINTENANCE OF PURIFIERS
Purifier Type: ALFA-LAVAL, DE-LAVAL, MITSHUBISHI
Dismantling and reassembling complete purifier for replacing seals, cleaning discs, changing bearings, gears, bushes and any other worn out parts.
7. MAINTENANCE OF HYDRAULIC STEERING & STABILIZERS
Running maintenance like changing of oils, filters, pressure gauges, pipes, valves and pumps. Maintaining hygienic of oil and operating temperature, replacing of hydraulic seals. Removal and servicing of oil coolers.
8. MAINTENANCE OF CENTRAL AC PLANT
Running maintenance like compressor oil changing, gas charging, pressure testing of gas system, changing of filters, driers, expansion valves, solenoid valves, safety devices, pressure gauges, temperature gauges. Condenser servicing and pressure testing chilled water system-water filter, air filter, pressure gauge and temperature gauge replacing, servicing of pumps. Dismantling of compressor for cleaning and setting of control vales.
9. MAINTENANCE OF REFRIGERATION PLANT
In addition to same as AC plant, maintaining the temperature of cool room, meat room. Defrosting the system, removal and reassembling of oil separator.
10. MAINTENANCE OF PNEUMATIC CONTROL SYSTEM AND HP AIR SYSTEM
Periodical maintenance like charging of air bottles, drain water and oil from the bottles, removing air pipe, leak rectification, fixing testing of air bottle relief valves, drain valves. Removal and fixing of reducers, filters in the system.
* Responsible of repairs and maintenance of fire hydrants, portable fire extinguishers, CO2 flooding system, steam drenching system and water sprinkler system.
* Pressure testing of fire lines and hoses, lubricating of fire valves, charging of portable fire extinguishers. Inspect, cleaning painting of piping and valves. Simulating alarm system on Co2 and water sprinkler systems.
