Engineering Group Supervisor

Project-I: ONSHORE GAS DEVELOPMENT PROJECT PHASE III, UAE: Engineering Group Supervisor of Civil/ Structural/ Architectural for OGD III Project - one of the largest EPC contracts ever undertaken by Bechtel. Direct supervision of 100K engineering and detailing hours. Responsible for all steel and concrete design on the project. Responsible for implementation of integrated steel design & detailing for the first time in a Bechtel project. Responsible for meeting all jobhour & quantity budgets on the project;

RELIANCE PETROCHEMICAL PROJECT, JAMNAGAR: Senior Engineer on the Reliance Petrochemical Project, responsible for engineering deliverables, planning & coordination for engineering activities. Also responsible for detailed engineering of pipe bridges, pipe supports, pipe racks, platform structures using FrameWorks and PDS, and carrying out design and analysis in 3D model environment.

Senior Structural Engineer

B11PA CONCEPTUAL/BASIC ENGINEERING: Worked as the lead engineer which involved 7500t topside, 3200t jacket and 2000t piles in a water depth of about 100m, an emergency living quarter, flare tower and an interconnected bridge. The work involved studying alternatives for the substructure and topside. Redundancy and non-linear pushover analysis were performed as a part of structural configuration confirmation. The engineering from this design formed the input for the EPC bid. As such a firm primary steel (procured by the client) and a detailed secondary steel material and the detailed drawings were prepared as a part of the deliverables.

IRONG BARAT A PLATFORM REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT: Worked as Lead Engineer/advisor. Work was executed in different phases:

In the Conceptual design phase, study included installation of 10 new conductors. Conductor sizes, location and guide requirement for conductor spanning more than 35m were assessed to minimize under water modification. Conductor design checks for stability, vortex shedding, drive-ability and installation loads were performed.
In the detailed design package 1, design for the conductor guides, braces and the affected jacket portion were performed. In-place analysis for the drilling module, jacket and spectral fatigue analysis for the jacket were carried out to assess the modification required due to conductor installation.

In the detailed design package 2, design for the Impact panels on the main deck were designed to withstand the BOP impact. Other design modification related to fire water caisson installation was carried out.

For the phase 2 conceptual design of the IBA Expansion project, modifications due to tie-ins of new field and additional facilities was assessed. Work involves Vibration analysis of the compressor module; alignment study and strengthening study for the compressor module. Other structural modifications associated with the installation of new Turbo compressor, Turbo generator and facilities upgrade due to new pipeline tie-ins at the platform.

IRONG BARAT A PLATFORM BOAT IMPACT ASSESSMENT: Worked as Lead Engineer. Jacket strength reassessed due to the damage caused by the supply boat collision. Riser guard impact strength was assessed for the Tapis, Jerneh and Lawit platforms as a consequence to this. A permanent riser guard for the Irong Barat A platform was designed with an impact energy of 1.7 MJ. The impact assessment was performed as per DnV guidance.

BEKOK C PIPELINE PROTECTIVE COVER: Worked as Lead Engineer. As per the risk assessment study, protective covers with an impact strength of 200kJ, were designed to cover the six pipelines for a total of 250m length around the jacket. The protective cover was designed as a hybrid structure, with a steel plate on the top supported by steel tubulars and concrete footing. The design and installation of the protective covers were carried out for the first time in Malaysia.

STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY ASSESSMENT FOR SEVEN PLATFORMS: Responsible for the In-place and Spectral Fatigue analyses for the EWQ A and EWV A platforms which were part of the overall package consisting of seven platforms located in the Erb West Field.

July 94 – Dec. 98 KVAERNER PETROMINCO ENGINEERING SDN BHD - MALAYSIA
Senior Structural Engineer

SK8 JINTAN DETAILED ENGINEERING PROJECT: Responsible for the complete in-place and installation analyses of the Utility and Living Quarter integrated module with a lift weight of 4250 tonnes. Module was designed considering four skid shoe supports during loadout and additional roll/pitch supports during transportation. Lifting analysis considers dual crane lifting using SSCV Hermod. A spreadsheet was developed for joint design as per AISC 9th edition. Other miscellaneous design includes lifting pad eye, stab-in cone, secondary steel, equipment supports, etc.

Worked as Lead Engineer for the later part of the project, co-ordinating for the drawings, report writing and checking of the calculations for all the three topside modules (drilling, production and Utility Modules).

FRONT END ENGINEERING FOR SK8 JINTAN TOPSIDES: Responsibilities included developing the structural configuration for the integrated Utility and Quarters module; dual crane lifting assessment for the Utility, Production and Drilling Modules (each weighing about 5000 tonnes) as a part of front end engineering; study of options using plate girders and high strength steel of grade 450 MPa; design briefs preparation for the topside design and analysis.

Pre-award engineering for base oil storage tank incorporated within the BK-C CPP sub-structure. Conceptual arrangement and material take off were done for the storage tank with a crude oil storage capacity of 500,000 bbl. The tank is located in a water depth of 54m and supports a jacket and topsides of 15000 tonnes weight.

RESAK-BERANANG CONCEPTUAL/BASIC ENGINEERING PROJECT - configuration finalization for flare supporting tripod and 100m span interconnecting bridge for the offshore platform, considering in-place and lift analysis; flare tower and vent boom study; design for 100m height onshore flare tower and miscellaneous structural works.

Miri Crude Oil Terminal Expansion - Worked as Lead Engineer. Work involved co-ordination, planning and designing the structures to Shell standards for the following projects:

Capacity Extension - Design of underground oily water sump, pipe supports, sheds and service platforms.

Fire Water System Upgrading - Design of pipe supports, Radiation Shields and modifications to the existing structures.
