Project Successfully Done:

* Title: Determine the path of a container ship and channel width of Chennai Port (India) for safe turn in wind load, current load, and wave load.
Work done: calculated wind, wave and current load on the ship and then determine the projectile of the ship. Determine the width of the channel through that ship can pass safely and should stop the ship near the turning circle. After that ship is moved in turning circle either by self propelled or by using tug force.

* Title: Determine resistance of facility vessel in towing tank
Work done: using a 1/10 scaled model has been tested in towing test at different draft and different speed after calibration. Then graphs were platted in between Resistance Vs draft and Resistance Vs speed.
Guide: Prof. S. Surendran, Department of Ocean Engineering, IIT Madras.

* Title: Dynamic response of Polygonal shaped Floating Production Storage and Offloading structure and Mooring lines in arctic.

Objective: To evaluate the realistic and practical implications of the proposed design of a steel model of a vessel fabricated to 1: 45 scale. The model testing has been carried out in IIT Madras wave basin (30m*30m) for a series of Regular Waves and Random Waves. External keel plate and skirt plate were used to minimize the response of the model which is an Ice Breaking Platform of 974734 barrel of oil storage capacity to be proposed to British Petroleum. Mooring line Response has been obtained and simulation has been done in Orca Flex Software.

Project under progress

Currently I am working on Jacket spar, Aim of this project is to find out response of jacket spar by experiment (a jacket spar model made with acrylic and has to be tested in Wave Basin at IIT Madras for regular and random waves). Dynamic analysis has to be done using Orca Flex software by using RAOs the response of the prototype model and Mooring lines in sea condition. Finally Structure analysis has to be done using Staad Pro software.

Summer Internships

Duration: July 2006(4 weeks)
Work/Achievement:
I was exposed to different issues like planning and sequencing of the different operations in shipbuilding, design and architecture of vessels according to classification society rules, the different production units working together. Primarily we got a first hand experience of design practices in industry, and manufacturing processes and scheduling of production and fabrication operations.

Duration: June 2007- July 2007(8 weeks)
Work/Achievement:
I was involved with the design and construction of Ships at "Hindustan Shipyard Ltd" under the guidance Of "Good Earth Maritime Ltd". I also worked the Design Office "Total Maritime Design" where I worked on calculating the approximate weight of the Bow of Bulk Carrier (dead weight of the ship = 30Ton). I also learnt NAPA Steel and was introduced to ship design software TRIBON. I also had constant interactions with ABS and DNV surveyors about their inspection process and certification.

* Won 1st prize in "Master Builder design competition (Built a 1.5meter Transmission line Tower wt=1.8kg) using Aluminum angle which can hold 150Kg bending load)" in Shaastra-2007(ISO 9001:2000 certified all India technical festival of IIT MADRAS).
* Won 1st prize in "Sub Marine design" design competition organized by Department of Ocean Engineering, IIT Madras.
* Won 1st prize in an event called Master Builder (Guyed Tower design with top base 20cm x 20cm) organized by Civil Engineering Department IIT Madras in 2007.
* Won 3rd prize", in a ship design competition organized by Department of Ocean Engineering, IIT Madras –Designed and built a vessel propelled by Magnus Effect.
* Won 3rd prize in Contraption in Shaastra 2006( the ISO 9001:2000 certified tech fest of IIT Madras)
* I had built a remote control speed boat powered by IC engine as a part of a design contest in Shaastra 2006.
* Won 3rd prize in Contraptions in Mechanica organized by the Mechanical Engineering Department, IIT Madras in 2007.
* Participated in "Robo –Oceana" (involving the design of a remote control paddle boat) in a design contest organized by Department of Ocean Engineering in 2007.
* Participated in helipad design and bridge design competition in All India Techfest at IIT Bombay in 2005.

Self developed model was Built and presented a seminar on

* Points of failure of Transmission Tower.
* To improve its strength and its economy effect in practical situations.
The tower was built with dimensions 1.5 meter (Dead Weight = 1.8Kg) tall with a square base 20cm x 20cm. and the material used for designing the structure is Aluminum L angles of 25x25x0.8mm and 12.5x12.5x0.6mm. It has been tested for different bending loads.
The entire seminar received accolades from every faculty member at the Department of Ocean Engineering including the Head of the Department.
