1 Inspect and test operation of instruments and systems, to diagnose faults using pneumatic, electrical and electronic testing device and precision measuring instruments.
2 Consult manufacturers manuals, circuit diagrams and blue prints to determine tests and maintenance procedures for various instruments used for measuring and controlling flow, level, pressure, temperature, chemical composition and other variables in manufacturing and processing.
3 Repair and adjust system components such as sensors, transmitters and programmable logic controller or remove and replace defective parts, circuit boards, power supplies etc.
4 Perform schedule preventive maintenance and complete test and maintenance reports.
5 Install control and measurement instruments on existing and expansion projects.
Job responsibilities as Temporary and Trainee Technician:
During this training period I gained hands-on experience on the basics of instrumentation i.e. repairs, maintenance, calibration, routine maintenance of process and control instruments in the plant and workshop. The following jobs were performed:-Repair/change/calibrate different type of pressure and temperature gauges, differential pressure gauge, receiver gauge, compound gauge and vacuum gauge, calibrate pressure gauge with dead weight tester, pump pressure etc, temperature gauge by electrical oven calibrator and receiver gauges by 3 to 15 Psi air supply,Overhauling of solenoid valves, actuators, and Rota meters Attend leakages in control valves by changing gland.
Job responsibilities as Instrument Technician:
As an Instrument Technician the main responsibilities were:-Attending preventive maintenance and shut down jobs.Installation calibration and commissioning of new instruments and control panel.Loop checking and logic function testing.Evaluation, diagnosis and rectification of instruments and system faults.
I have worked on servicing, maintenance and troubleshooting of following systems and instruments.
1 Transmitters ( conventional and smart) For the measurement of:-Pressure-strain gauge type, Temperature-Thermocouple& RTD.Flow – Mass flow meter, Oval valve flow meter, Magnetic flow meter, Level – Nuclear type, Ultrasonic type, capacitance type.
Calibration of smart transmitter for different services such as liquid, gas, steam or corrosive fluids and operation such as suppressed, center or elevated zero according to the process requirements.
2 Weighing balance (analog and digital) For the chemical analysis in quality control department in the lower range from 0 to 250gms up to six digits after decimal and upper range from 0 to 50 tons used for loading raw materials, on line additive system during batch process, lorry weighing and the packaging of final product in the packing department.
3 Control valves (both with conventional and smart positioners) Calibration for reverse and forward mode, split mode, fail safe mode etc. Overhauling of valve by removing all parts such as diaphragm, actuator, stem, lapping of the seat and re-assembling on/off valves for example ball type, butterfly type, knife gate type, slam gate type, slide gate type and diverter type valve.
4 Controllers (micro processor based electronics and pneumatic). Calibration of all types of indicators, controllers, totalizes, timers, digital gauges, hooters, annunciaters, scanners etc. All types of quality control instruments like Ph meter, conductivity meter¸ Karl fisher moisture meter, auto piston burette, tentiometers, stroboscope, anemometers, spectrophotometer, yarn tensile strength tester.
5 Shift duties During the shift duties worked individually and attend the entire running fault independently. I was responsible for detection, rectification and elimination of any instrument problems with minimum time frame. On line preventive maintenance of all necessary instruments had to be carried out with utmost care and safety.
I had worked as Instrument Technician during the erection and commissioning of P.O.Y plant comprising of six lines of spinning extruders (in collaboration with Cheil Synthetics South Korea and Barmag from W.Germany).The following activities were carried out in different departments:
1 Receiving instrument panels, inspecting and testing control systems. Receiving testing and installations of various instruments. Installation of cable tray, instrument supports, cable laying, cable dressing, cable ferruling, cable glanding, termination both at field and panel, conducting continuity and megger tests for correct and trouble free cabling.
2 Participated in different loop testing, checking panel and field instrument operations, calibration of instrument alignment of pneumatic and electronic instruments.
3 Participated in erectioning, commissioning of six Barmag make Extruders.(Model 12E4/24D)
4 In take up area high-speed winders of Barmag make model SW46S and SW4S and Reiter make J7/A3 -144 such winders were installed and commissioned
5 In continuous chips drying area two dryers of 15 tons capacity each and one of 30 tons capacity installed and commissioned.

6 PLC of Siemens and Allen Bradley were installed for chips conveying to different storage tanks and finally to Extruders.
Participated in erection and commissioning of air Compressors and Booster Compressors of K G Khosla and Ingersoll-Rand make. 7 Centrifugal chillers of Blue Star and Volta's make. Air Dryer of Insultek and Chemac make.
I have got deep knowledge of all types of drives specially Ac Drives. I am perfect in stripping of power card, microprocessor card, triggering, interface and control card, power transistors, thyristors and all other components. I can attend inverters of following make and capacity. (Siemens Simovert P and V type 6SE3450 (4KVA), 6SE3575 (82KVA), 6SE3611 (120KVA), 6SE2133 (22KVA).Maidensa Thyfrec V500 12.5 & 33KVA.Delta VFD-A 1.9 KVA.)
Job responsibilities as an Assistant Superintendent:
1 Maintain workshop activities, guiding the Technicians and Mechanics to promote effective troubleshooting and quick rectification.
2 Preparing prototype circuits and test jigs for maintenance and calibration of various modules in plant.
3 Scheduling the routine maintenance and preventive maintenance.
4 Co-operation with other departments in solving complex plant problems.
5 Making daily reports, instrument history and log sheets.
6 Making monthly manpower schedules.
7 See that the safety precautions are followed especially in dangerous and hazardous area to ensure accident free activities.
8 Maintain the service manuals, circuit diagram and making changes after modifications.
Job responsibilities during the deputation to Thai Baroda Industries Ltd:
(As a shift Instrument Foreman)
I was responsible for attending all the breakdowns, shutdowns, troubleshooting and rectification of faults during the shift hours. Looked after the maintenance of instrumentation and control system in all section of Tyre cord plant such as polymerization, lactum recovery, spinning, twisting, weaving, dipping and utilities.
