LICENSE

EIT (2002), TX USA
Certified Civil Engineer (1995), Korea(ROK)

ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE

Teaching Assistant at The University of Texas at Austin(2000-2001 and 2003-2006)
- Taught different characteristics of material by testing metals, woods, aggregates, concrete mixtures, and concrete strength by conducting concrete beam tests for bending and shear failure
- Taught SAP2000 in structural analysis classes
- Successfully motivated class students and coordinated students as team members

Research Assistant at The University of Texas at Austin(2002)
- Conducted numerical time history analysis of precast concrete structures for the earthquake ground motions in Turkey
- Created a computer program that matched well with experimental results for dynamic behavior of the concrete structure

Ph.D Candidate at The University of Texas at Austin(2003 - 2006)
Progressive collapse behavior of RC structures with deficient details
- Analyzed nonlinear static and dynamic behaviour of reinforced concrete frame structures with deficient details such as discontinuous positive flexural reinforcement at connections, insufficient transverse reinforcement for redistribution of shear, and insufficient compression splices in columns that may be subjected to tension
- Deficiencies were investigated to determine if the potential for progressive collapse in a structure could be reduced through rehabilitation
- Compared analytical results between a robust and deficient structure
- Major findings from the research are: When deficiencies existed and an interior column was damaged and lost its load carrying capacity, the concrete structure showed multiple plastic hinges and possibility of a column failure. This column failure may cause the failure on the upper level and trigger progressive collapse downward
