03/2005- present Petrophysicist (Exploration)

-Primarily involved in exploration. Planning & execution of LWD, core and wireline log data acquisition. To date these have included 3 HP/HT (Halten Terrace) and 3 Deep water wells. I was responsible for the petrophysical evaluation of a large HPHT gas discovery. This also included the planning, execution and interpretation of 2 special core analyses programmes. I have gained experience with wireline and LWD formation testing. I have presented on this subject on two occasions at the Norwegian Formation Evaluation Society (NFES) and had a paper accepted for the SPWLA conference in Vercruz, Mexico in June 2006. This paper was classified one of the "best papers".

Schlumberger Oilfield Services.
09/98 – 12/98 Mudlogging Technician

-Valuable offshore industry experience during this three-month contract.

Technical publications:
-HPHT exploration in Oil Based Mud: Formation pressure while drilling, wireline formation testing and fluid sampling – Society of Petrophysicist and Well Log Analysts. Annual symposium June 4 -7th 2006.

-Palaeozoic prospectivity of the central North Sea – Published internally in Shell

University specialisations:
-Drumlin formation and Ice Flow Reconstruction in the St. Lawrence Valley – Undergraduate thesis.
-Antarctica – Controls on glaciation – 4th year essay.

Technical career

-From January 2008 – present I have been working in the exploration department, planning and executing petrophysical operations for deep water Atlantic Margin exploration wells. In addition I have been involved with licenseing round evaluations and mentoring of a new graduate.

-In 2007 I worked for 10 weeks in Saudi Arabia. This was in a Shell/Total/Aramco joint venture. I was involved with operations on exploration wells, plus the petrophysical interpretation of offset and traded wells. This was an excellent technical experience and broadend my petrophysical and geological knowledge. I also had the opportunity to work with new wireline and LWD service companies.

-From April 2005 – Nov 2007 I worked in High Pressure – High Temperature exploration where I was heavily involved with interpretation and reporting of a discovery exploration well. I presented on Formation Pressure While Drilling (FPWD) results at SPE in London and NFES in Stavanger. I was jointly involved in a paper presented for The Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts annual conference in Veracruz, Mexico: "HPHT Exploration in Oil Based Mud: Formation Pressure While Drilling, Wireline Formation Testing and Fluid Sampling". I presented this paper at an NFES seminar in Trondheim. We outline several world 1st oil industry achievements made by Shell in Norway. This paper was one of the "best papers" and was published in Petrophysics magazine in 2007.

-In my first role in Shell (Shell UK) I was responsible for Logging-While-Drilling operations on 7 production wells. Highlights included: interpretation of a gas water contact encountered several hundred feet shallow to expectation and establishing the value justification for spending $500K on extra pressure data acquisition in order to establish the need of a sidetrack to an existing well. I developed skills at working in multi-disciplinary teams.

-I have made several offshore trips with Shell as a logging witness. Responsibilities are for data quality and facilitating communication between wellsite and the office. I have been responsible for "calling TD" on two wells where the TD was reservoir quality driven. Although these were not particularly complex decisions, they demonstrate an ability to operate under pressure.

-In the summer of 2001, I was employed by Shell UK as a Geology MSc Placement Student. The project investigated remaining petroleum prospectively in the Triassic rocks of the Central North Sea. The role encompassed extraction and manipulation of seismic, core and log data. Outcomes were reported in a Shell internal technical publication and presented to a panel of exploration geologists.

-From January 1999 to summer 2001 I worked in a field studies centre as a Geology & Geography tutor. Here I gained a sound grounding in leadership and presentation skills. In the role I found that I enjoyed teaching concepts and had a natural aptitude for it.
