Senior level instrument and electrical engineer with over thirty - five years experience in Refinery and Petro Chemical Plants. I have worked for Saudi Aramco for eighteen years of which fourteen years were at Rabigh Refinery.
EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
April 1991 to Present: Saudi Aramco.
October 2008 – Present: INSTRUMENT ENGINEER. PetroRabigh, Rabigh, Saudi Arabia. I am working as a Saudi Aramco secondee for PetroRabigh in the Reliability Unit of the Engineering Division. I completed small projects from scope of work through design to field construction. I assisted maintenance in trouble shooting a Triconex ESD system for the ship loading pumps. I assisted maintenance and operation to develop changes in the ESD progam for loading arms at the Berths. Updated documents into INtools format and maintained INtools database.
August 1995 – September 2008: INSTRUMENT ENGINEER AND ELECTRICAL ENGINEER; Saudi Aramco Rabigh Refinery, Rabigh, Saudi Arabia. Work responsibilities and projects included: plant-wide maintenance of electrical equipment and field instrumentation including programmable logic controller (PLC), motor control centers (MCC) devices, boilers control system, blending and packaging equipment. Completed small projects including scope of work, design and onsite field construction. Created ladder diagrams, logic diagrams, process and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) drawings, instrument control loops, control valve sizing calculations, and orifice sizing calculations. Wrote instrument specifications for temperature transmitters, RTDs, thermocouple sensors, differential pressure (DP) transmitters, level and pressure transmitters and Solatron viscosity analyzers. Developed wiring diagrams, electrical schematic diagrams, and one-line diagrams for motor control and power. I made short circuit calculations to size the conductors for motors. Installed several Cyberex and Gutor UPS systems. Worked on Foxboro DCS systems, Yokogawa DCS systems, Triconex ESD systems and ABB August ESD System. I worked with 13.8 KV, 4.16 KV, 480 V, 120/208V and 24 VDC power distribution systems. Revised 4.16 KV circuit breaker schematics and created motor control center layouts and elementary control diagrams. Completed installation of eight MicroMotion meters used to measure the fuel oil to fired heaters. Installed Bently Nevada Vibration System for several pumps and compressors and completed a project to install fire detection system in two compressor houses.
August 1994 – July 1995: INSTRUMENT ENGINEER; Saudi Aramco Shedgum Gas Plant, Saudi Arabia. I completed small projects from scope of work through design to field construction. Assisted Maintenance in trouble shooting of defective instruments and created a design package to install an Elliott Compressor for the instrument air.
April 1991 – July 1994: INSTRUMENT AND ELECTRICAL DESIGN ENGINEER; Southern Area PMT; Southern Area Design Services in Abqaiq, Saudi Arabia Responsible for removing a Merlin Gerin UPS system and replacing it with a Cyberex UPS system at U-GOSP-6. I completed a design package to install orifice plates for the flow monitoring of condensate in the Abqaiq Plants. I developed as-built drawings of the Abqaiq Duct Bank System.
April 1989 – March 1991: PROCESS CONTROL ENGINEER; Sterling Chemical Company; Texas City, Texas. I made distillation column design calculations to develop process control algorithms.
February 1986 – March 1989: INSTRUMENT AND CONTROL ENGINEER; General Electric Silicones Co.; Waterford, New York. I Installed a Tytronics Infrared Moisture Analyzer to measure the water in Tetramer that was charged into the reactors. I assisted maintenance in trouble shooting Honeywell DCS problems.
March 1984 – January 1986: INSTRUMENT AND CONTROL ENGINEER; Georgia Power Company Nuclear Power Plant; Plant Vogtle, Waynesboro, Georgia. Worked in quality assurance in the construction of instrument and control systems.
November 1982 – February 1984: INSTRUMENT AND CONTROL ENGINEER; Flakt, Inc.; Knoxville, Tennessee. Wrote instrument specifications and developed control system for scrubber - spray dryers and electrostatic precipitators that will be used to clean flue gas from the Coal-Fired Generation, Unit No. 2 of the Grand River Dam Authority. The generating station, which is rated at 520 MW, is located near Vinita, Oklahoma. I made chemical engineering calculations to insure that instruments were selected and sized so that the performance criteria are met for all boiler load conditions and various types of coal.
May 1980 – October 1982: INSTRUMENT ENGINEER; Davy McKee Corp., Inc.; Independence, Ohio. I completed several projects from scope of work through the detail design to construction for B.F. Goodrich as the client.
September 1973 – April 1980: INSTRUMENT AND ELECTRICAL ENGINEER; Diamond Shamrock Chemical Company, Pasadena, Texas. I completed a project to develop control system for two demineralizers and two organic traps with accompanying brine day tank and process sewer holding tank using one of the first Modicon PLCs.
EDUCATION
University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky, USA.
Master of Engineering in Chemical Engineering in 1973. (Degree awarded as first degree to replace Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering.) Thesis concerned of fluidized beds.
Attended the Spring, 1985 semester at the Graduate School of the University of New Hampshire. Took courses in Electrical Engineering towards a M.S.E.E. degree. Courses included Advanced Control Theory, Discrete Systems, and Assembly Language.
