GENERAL BACKGROUND
I am a Reservoir Engineer with extensive hands on reservoir, field development and management experience. I have worked with sandstone and carbonate reservoirs, EOR processes, risk analysis, reservoir analysis, field development and reservoir surveillance. I have considerable simulation experience, particularly with Eclipse but also with VIP and Mores.. I worked for Shell in Brazil where I was Subsurface Manager for an offshore operated development. I also carried out reservoir simulation using VIP and Mores. I have recently been working as a consultant and in 2007 completed an assignment for Premier Oil in Jakarta where I evaluated a POD for a tight gas carbonate development including converting a VIP model to Eclipse and running development scenarios and evaluating test (Saphyr) and other reservoir data. In 2008 I was on assignment with Qatar Petroleum in Doha working on redevelopment of a large carbonate oil field. I analysed 20 well tests using Saphyr and built and history matched a very large Eclipse simulation model. I also guided junior engineers building other Eclipse models. This also included analysing the relevant SCAL and PVT data.
In 2009 I returned to Brasil where I have started my own consultant company.
I am a reservoir engineer by background with extensive simulation experience both building and history matching models as well as evaluating development scenarios. I have throughout my career maintained hands on reservoir skills. I was the Subsurface Manager for the development of the Brazilian fields leading a multidisciplinary, multicultural team of 10 people and I concluded by working in the reservoir surveillance team managing the production from the fields.
I was born and grew up in the UK where I studied and started my working life in Research and Development with British Gas. In 1974 I joined Schlumberger Wireline Services and moved to Norway where I lived for 25 years.
During this time I was employed by Statoil, Conoco and Enterprise Oil before being assigned to the Bijupira & Salema project in Brazil in 2000. Shell took over Enterprise in 2002. I speak fluent Norwegian and some Portuguese.
I have been married but am now divorced and have a son who is 29 years old.
My current interests include skiing, both cross country and downhill, fly fishing, golf, reading and running.
JOB EXPERIENCE
2008
Assignment with Qatar Petroleum in Doha working as the Reservoir Engineer on redevelopment of a large multi reservoir carbonate oil field. I analysed 20 well tests using Saphyr and built and history matched a very large Eclipse simulation model. This included analysing the relevant SCAL, PVT and production data and using all the relevant Eclipse packages, Office, Schedule, Floviz, Flogrid, PVT, SCAL, as well as OFM, Prosper Mbal etc. I also assisted and guided junior engineers in building Eclipse models for other reservoirs in the field.
2007
Consultant assignment in Jakarta evaluating a proposed POD for a tight gas carbonate field for Premier Oil. This included converting a VIP simulation model to Eclipse and running development scenarios, evaluating reservoir data, test data with Saphyr, PVT, rel perm and quicklook log analysis.
1993 - 2005 Employed by Enterprise Oil and transferred to Shell in 2002.
2000 - 2005 Subsurface Manager Bijupira-Salema project Brazil
Enterprise Oil developed and operated 2 small fields in the Campos Basin of Brazil, in partnership with Petrobras and Odebrecht. The project started in late 1999 at which time I recruited the Subsurface multidisciplinary team within Enterprise comprising a geologist, geophysicist, petrophysiscist, and reservoir engineer. The team was located in London initially to perform due diligence and to put together the initial Reservoir Development Plan. The team relocated to Brazil in mid 2000 and established a working environment. This included setting up the necessary systems and establishing relations with the partners and authorities including understanding local requirements and recruiting local co-workers, wellsite geologists and junior engineers.
The subsurface team optimised and refined the Reservoir Development Plan and obtained partner and Local Authority approval. The team worked closely with the drilling team and 14 planned wells were successfully drilled, including coring, testing and sampling. Based on optimisation, new data and well results, new reservoir models were built with VIP for reservoir management and reserve booking.
Shell took over at the end of 2002 and production started in August of 2003.
The original subsurface team was disbanded at the end of 2003 and subsequently I assisted the Shell reservoir surveillance team to get established and trained a Brazilian engineer to take over the reservoir position. During this time I performed the reservoir work including reservoir simulation, reservoir analysis and production optimisation, reserves generation, etc.
During this 5 year period I have at different times, due to staff movements, taken over the reservoir work including simulation with Eclipse, VIP and Mores (the Shell simulator).
1995 - 2000 Valhall Area Team Leader and Chief Petroleum Engineer simultaneously.
Chief Petroleum Engineer responsible for 5 engineers and for co-ordinating reservoir and production strategy and prognoses for Enterprise fields including reservoir software, reservoir simulation, history matching, reserve booking, and production forecasting. Also Steering committee member of R&D petroleum engineering projects including the Force and Joint Chalk Research forums, as well as the Forecasting and Uncertainty Forum (FUN).
I was also active as a reservoir engineer having previously simulated the Norne and Jotun fields but later simulating and history matching the Hod and Valhall fields, which are chalk reservoirs with 18 years of production and many special problems.
Also Valhall Area Team Leader responsible for a multidisciplinary team of 5 looking after Enterprise's interests as a partner in the Valhall area including production, development, exploration, drilling, economics and budgets. A significant part of this role was also working with and co-ordinating the partners in the license.
Directly involved in a Valhall chalk fractured reservoir waterflood project particularly with respect to introducing decision risk techniques and reservoir uncertainty analysis to the Valhall partnership and developing the fiscal strategy towards the Norwegian authorities. Ran both conventional and risked economics for the project and ran reservoir simulations for both waterflood and reserve upgrade of the Valhall field.
Helped design a risk analysis method for forecasting of production from the highly unstable Valhall chalk reservoir, which has been developed by a Valhall team member and was presented as an SPE paper at Europec in1999.
1993 - 1995 Reservoir Engineer for various fields initially.
1991 - 1993 Employed by Conoco as a Staff Reservoir Engineer.
Initially responsible for the Ula and Gyda fields in the Southern North Sea and other Conoco projects including building, running and history matching of reservoir models as well as representing Conoco in technical committees.
Lead the reservoir/engineering/economic effort (enclosure 3) for the 14th round licence application for new acreage on the Norwegian shelf and also wrote the Improved Recovery (IOR) section (enclosure 7).
For the last year participated in a small team responsible for reorganising Conoco Norway during their Global 'downsizing' programme.
Promoted to Chief Reservoir Engineer as a result of reorganisation.
1978-1991 Statoil
Employed in various positions at a time when the Norwegian oil industry and Statoil were in their early development phase.
2 years as a petrophysical engineer both on and offshore. This involved both log analysis and supervision of logging services offshore.
4 years as a reservoir engineer working with reservoir evaluation, special core analysis, PVT analysis, simulation, history matching and equity mainly with the Statfjord field. Lead the multidisciplinary team that built and history matched the first Statoil Statfjord reservoir model prior to Statoil taking over the field.
5 years as Section Leader for Production Reservoir Studies. The section of 10-12 engineers, was responsible for producing fields in which Statoil had an interest. The work was simulation orientated with emphasis on history matching with a goal of developing strategy to support Statoil operated fields and to support the interests of Statoil in partner operated fields.
2 years as leader for reservoir research including improved recovery simultaneously with the above position. The work involved coordination of a multidisciplinary reservoir research programme as well as liaison with external research institutes. At this time Statoil was heavily involved in IOR projects including surfactants, polymers, gas based recovery etc and the job involved developing Statoil's strategy for IOR..
2 years in project development providing reservoir support in a multidisciplinary team and representing Statoil in committees for operated and partner operated projects.
1974-1978 Schlumberger Wireline Services
Employed as an offshore logging engineer in the North Sea, based in Norway. Worked on the Ekofisk and Frigg fields and on floaters running all open hole and production logging services.
