Essar Oil Ltd operates a fully integrated oil company. Its assets include developmental rights in proven exploration blocks, a 14 MMTPA refinery in the west coast of India and over 1,000 oil retail stations across India. Plans are under way to increase its exploration acreage in various parts of the globe, expand its refinery capacity to 34 MMTPA and open 5,000 retail outlets.

Planning (From Aug 2008 to till date)

* Support to Business Development Team for evaluation of various inorganic growth opportunities
- For asset under consideration, providing a detailed feedback on refinery capability in terms of type of feedstock processing and product slate (capability for cleaner fuels).
- Working out economics, feasibility studies for the asset as well as suggesting synergies that are possible with existing assets.
- LP model building as a part of above process.

* Expansion project related studies
- Developed refinery expansion LP model along with UOP.
- Worked out various commercial, hardware related and price scenario analysis for the expansion refinery.
- Carried out unit sequencing and investment phasing study for expansion project.
- Facility planning and recommending ways to mitigate infeasible situations with high likelihood.
- Identifying potential margin and capacity enhancement opportunities without changing the basic configuration and recommending ways to capture them.
- Screening of crude grades to assess for robustness based on strategic perspective (Evergreen contracts with NOC's and security of supply) and economic perspective (limited availability of opportunity grades).
- Configuration studies linked to the inclusion and/or exclusion of certain process units.

* Other planning jobs
- Perspective planning and retro analysis for the existing base refinery.
- Ad-hoc assignments related to crude purchase, term crudes evaluation and short term product commitments.
- Expertise in various planning tools - Aspen PIMS, Spiral Crude Manager, ABML.

Scheduling (From Apr 2006 to Aug 2008)

* Product scheduling - Gasoline, HSD and FO scheduling
- Minimizing quality giveaway and avoiding product failures by continuous monitoring of stream qualities.
- Product cargo forecasting and sequencing-Projecting a cargo 30 days in advance to avoid distress sale as well sequencing them to avoid high/low product stock situation and minimizing jetty idling time.
- Meeting domestic and export product commitments.
- Minimizing demurrage due to product unavailability.
- Evacuation planning - Continuous coordination with ISBL, OSBL, Lab, shipping operation and surveyor for timely certification and evacuation of product.
- Circulating daily plans for rail and road off-takes, vessel berthing plan, certification schedule, stream/product routing plan and blending schedule etc.
- Coordinating emergency stream routings during process unit trips and start-up operations.
- Publishing monthly QGA report, highlighting stream quality deviations against stream quality targets along with economic penalty.
- Working out various stream routing economics and process unit feed optimization.
- Expertise in IP21, LIMS, MBO.

Operations and Technical Services (From Aug 2004 to Apr 2006)

* Experience in operation and technical services (NHT/CCR)
- Preparation of operating manual for NHT/CCR.
- Responsible for various precommissiong activities.
- Liasoning with equipment vendors and unit licensors.
- PFD and P&ID reviews.
- Revamp study for NHT and naphtha splitter.

* Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering (May 2004) from Laxminarayan Institute of Technology, Nagpur University with First Class Distinction securing 76.76%.
