EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
Jan-May Oil Electro Ltd, Baku, Azerbaijan.

Oil Electro Ltd is a supply company to the oil and gas industry as well as other industrial companies. My duties included:
a. Administrative:- Organization of the company, including:
i. Producing job descriptions for all staff members, so that they had a good understanding of their position.
ii. Implementing procedures for the efficient running of the company.
iii. Implementing cost cutting procedures.
iv. Maintaining records, personal, leave, etc.
v. Upgrading of the office computer system.
b. Sales:-
i. Complete sales quotes based on current stock items.
ii. Research and obtain prices from overseas companies for non-stock items.
iii. Liaise with freight companies to ensure prompt and cost effective deliveries from overseas.
c. Hire/Maintenance department:-
i. Implement procedures for the efficient running of the hire department.
ii. Produce spreadsheets for the recording of the equipment on hire, plant maintenance, equipment history and customer history.
iii. Train and guide staff in the running of the hire department.
iv. Complete competitive hire quotes to ensure the customer can complete their project efficiently and cost effectively.
v. Provide technical advice to the workshop/hire department personnel and senior management.
vi. Implement an advertising program to raise the profile and public awareness of the hire department.
vii. Implement safety procedures and ensure all staff members adhered to these procedures and used personal protection equipment where necessary.
d. Warehouse - in conjunction with the Sales Manager:-
i. Implement procedures for the efficient running and cost cutting in the warehouse.
ii. Liaise with the multinational staff to ensure a co-operative workforce.
1998-2000 BOC Gases, Solomon Islands.
Manager
I was the only expatriate working for BOC Gases in the Solomon Islands with 12 local staff. In addition to standard management practices I was also responsible for the supervision of the following departments:
a. Production plant This plant produced oxygen and acetylene gases. We also imported specialty gases from Australia and Papua New Guinea. It was my responsibility, through the production supervisor, to ensure that the following procedures were carried out:
i. Production levels were maintained to ensure we had adequate stock for customers needs including medical oxygen for the hospital. (As the only manufacturer of medical oxygen in the Solomon Islands it was critical that stock was always available.)
ii. A safe working environment was provided for all employees.
iii. Maintenance and service levels where carried out on the plant to manufactures and BOC Gases guidelines.
iv. Provide guidance and technical advice to the production supervisor and the plant operators.
v. Stock of raw material was kept at a commercially viable level.
b. Sales centre From here industrial and safety equipment was sold.
i. Stock ordering from overseas and inventory control.
ii. Liaise with the larger customers to ensure their requirements for resupply were met. An example of this was the relationship I had with "Gold Ridge" gold mine (Ross Mining - later Delta Gold). I was able to encourage Gold Ridge to purchase most of their industrial and safety equipment from BOC instead of importing the items themselves.
iii. I was instrumental in the establishment of systems for purchasing equipment and materials direct from the manufacturers to improve profitability.
iv. Because of the infrequent shipping schedules to the Solomon Islands I have acquired a good understanding of logistic planning and transport requirements.
v. Provide technical advice to staff and customers on equipment.
c. Administration and finance departments.
i. Provide monthly and incident reports to BOC Gases head office in Australia.
ii. Ensure customers kept their account within BOC Gases trading terms.
iii. Ensure suppliers where paid correctly and on time.
iv. Liaise with government departments including:- customs, immigration and labour departments.
My duties also required travel to outer areas of the Solomon Islands to conduct cylinder audits at customers' work sites. My customers included mining, logging and fishing companies as well as general engineering workshops.
I was a member of the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and the Solomon Islands Manufacturers Association and through these organisations I was involved in discussions with Government Ministers to improve commercial conditions for the manufacturing sector. During the last six months of my stay in the Solomon Islands I was also involved in extensive negotiations with Government and Militant leaders to try to maintain law and order and a trouble-free work environment.
Following an escalation in the Ethnic Tension between the two Island groups, in September 1999 I was appointed as a warden for the Australian High Commission in Honiara, the Capital of the Solomon Islands. My duties included liaising with the Australian High Commission, keeping a current contact list of Australians in the Solomon Islands and keeping them informed of issues in relation to the Ethnic Tension. This also provided a means for Australians to pass information to the High Commission.
Due to the escalation of the Ethnic Tension and the general lack of law and order it was no longer a safe environment for my partner and myself. In November 2000 I decided to return to Australia.
1996-98 Tilt Tray Transport
Managing Director
My partner and I purchased a tilt tray truck to start a specialized transport operation based in Cairns in far north Queensland, Australia, servicing remote areas in the far north. We also took with us a range of generators to open an agency in Cairns for Power Rent, and on arrival in Cairns we were appointed agents for Cool Cube, a cold room hire company.
These business were started from new in Cairns and I was able to build a constant and quality clientele which included some of the major machinery dealers in north Queensland, hire companies, construction companies and the Main Roads Department.
These businesses all operated successfully and profitably. In September 1998 I was invited to apply for the position of Manager of BOC Gases in the Solomon Islands.
We subsequently sold our transport and agency business.
1988-95 Tilt Tray Transport
Managing Director
In December 1997 my partner and I purchased an established transport business, Tilt Tray Transport, which transported earthmoving machinery and other industrial and construction equipment around South-East Queensland. The business expanded to a total of 5 trucks and drivers, both tilt trays and low loaders.
In 1992 Macfarlane Generators sold its hire division to Power Rent Pty Ltd. Because of my previous experience in the generator industry, I was approached by the new owner to be his Queensland Agent.
I successfully ran both businesses together, moving into a larger industrial complex and employing extra staff.
During this period I was responsible for and personally carried out the maintenance of the transport fleet and the generators. This involved general maintenance as well as engine, gearbox and rear axle rebuilds.
In 1995 we were approached by an opposition transport company and sold the transport business to them. At the same time, Power Rent converted the agency into a full branch, which I continued to run until our decision to move to Cairns in 1996.
1984-87 MacFarlane Generators
Manager
In April 1984 I was appointed as Queensland Manager for Macfarlane Generators, which was the largest generator hire, sales and service company in Australia.
Initially I was responsible for maintaining the hire fleet, which ranged in size from small portable generators to 500 KVA generators, expanding the customer base, stock control and procurement.
With the expansion of the branch, additional staff were required and I was then involved in the hiring, training and supervision of our own staff as well as outside contractors.
The technical knowledge of generators that I gained has enabled me to successfully sell and hire generators to their correct application for both personal use and industrial situations. I have also been called on to provide consultation to Government Departments and private companies in regard to power generation.
Projects I was involved with included:-
a. Hire of generators to government departments, International music concerts, construction sites and emergency situations.
b. Outright and tendered sale of generators to government departments, corporations, private companies and individuals.
In December 1987 I resigned from Macfarlane Generators to commence my own business.
1980-1984 Wreckair Hire
Driver
I was employed by Wreckair Hire as a Truck Driver, transporting equipment to building sites around Brisbane. Whilst with wreckair I gained a sound knowledge of the operation of machinery.
I resigned from Wreckair Hire to start employment with Macfarlane Generators.
1971-79 Australian Regular Army
During my military service I was initially posted to the Artillery Corps, where I was employed as company clerk, with the rank of Corporal, responsible for the day to day administration of my sub-unit and some 100 members.
I was subsequently accepted into the Intelligence Corps and served as an Intelligence Operative. My duties in this position included the implementation of Army Office policy and counter intelligence activities including a sergeant's position in the Foreign Liaison section in Canberra, working with the Foreign Embassies.
I was discharged at my own request.
OTHER EMPLOYMENT:
1981-85 Army Reserve
I served with a Transport Unit in Brisbane where I was posted as Chief Clerk with the rank of Sergeant. My duties included the administration of the Unit, training and supervising subordinates. I was also responsible for the coordination and transport activities of the Headquarters Unit on an operational basis.
I left the Army Reserve because my civilian commitments did not allow time for both.
References will be provided on request.
