EMPLOYMENT: Port Control Officer

Sultanate of Oman (From June 2004 till to date)

The responsibilities and accountabilities are:
a) Customer focused Safety awareness and cost effectiveness.
b) Plan, Manage and monitor the turnaround of vessels at Port, the Port is handling Container Ships, Cargo Ships, Passenger ships, Oil Tankers and Bunkering Facility.
c) Receive Berthing request and assign berths, coordinate vessel arrivals, departures and berth locations to maximize operational efficiency and safety.
d) Supervises advance planning prior to the ship coming into port. Check and ensure berth condition for Berthing, Plan, implement and monitor the safe berthing, un-berthing and moorings alongside of ships at Jetty.
e) Respond to emergencies and SOS, adopting internationally recognized procedures.
f) Works closely with terminal staff, vessel operators and their agents in the development of accurate and efficient plans to load / unload vessels or operate terminals.
g) Develop and recommend departmental budget for most cost effective use of men and machinery.
h) Train the junior staff to develop their skills.
i) Anti pollution steps are in readiness at Port.
j) Interacts with Maintenance team, RMH Operations, PAP, Logistics, Stores, Administration and Safety, and Security Department.
k) Interact and Supervise Mooring contract services, VTC.
l) Interact with contracted workmen like Radio Operator, Stevedores
Supervisor, Tugs, Pilots, Surveyors, Vessel agents, and any Government Officials visiting the Jetty.

Manager (Marine Operations)
Dahej Port (From March 2003 – June 2004)
The responsibilities and accountabilities are:
a) Plan, Manage and monitor the turnaround of vessels at jetty, the Jetty is handling cargo such as copper concentrate, rock phosphate, coal, ammonia and phosphoric acid by berthing up to panamax size ships. Handling of vessels on jetty is done safely in the difficult high current and open sea conditions and at optimum cost.
b) Plan, implement and monitor the safe berthing, un-berthing and moorings alongside of ships at Jetty.
c) Ensure the gangs are ready for Vessel loading and Unloading, in accordance with vessel plan.
d) Develop customer service and make indents and receive goods and services as per most cost effective ways.
e) Plan, implement and monitor the smooth handling of cargo from vessel to Stockyard/ tank.
f) Develop and recommend departmental budget for most cost effective use of men and machinery.
g) Train the junior staff to develop their skills.
h) Responsible for organizing all operations for fleet of offshore vessels i) Minimize Cargo spillage and dusting.
j) Anti pollution steps are in readiness on jetty.
k) Implementation of ISPS code.
l) Interacts with Maintenance team, RMH Operations, PAP, Logistics, Stores, Administration and Safety, and Security Department.
m) Interact and Supervise Mooring contract services, VTC.
n) Interact with contracted workmen like Radio Operator, Stevedores Supervisor, Tugs, Pilots, Surveyors, Vessel agents, and any Government Officials visiting the Jetty.
o) Arranging and supervising dry docking and special surveys of Marine Fleet.
p) Prepare Duty Roster for Duty Officer, Technicians and Operators.
q) Maintain the standards of ISO and carry out ISO audits.
r) Responsible for testing and certification of all lifting equipments.

Assistant Manager
Reliance Ports and Terminals, Jamnagar, Gujarat, India.
From February 2000 to March 12th 2003.
The responsibilities and accountabilities were:
a) Direct, Control and supervise the activities of Marine Oil Terminal Operations, b) To implement, and adopt the Safety procedure, and efficient and safe handling of vessels at the Jetty. Liase with Harbor Master and book Pilots for berthing / off berthing Operations.
c) Berthing / off berthing operations of Oil Tankers / LPG Carriers at the Marine Terminal in four berths. Vessels with DWT 5000 to 1,20,000, Controlling the supporting Crafts during berthing / off berthing and Marine Operations, co-ordinate, and control the contracted marine fleet, d) Positioning the Tanker during berthing, in line with shore Loading Arm and Ships manifold, e) Responsible for loading operations, vessel operations, plan, organize, and co- ordinate all operational activities, maintain close liaison with shipping team.
f) Carry out the ship shore safety checks before commencing cargo operations, g) Oil Pollution Control and handling of various pollution gears, and equipment, h) Liaise with Customs / agents and other outside agencies, i) Monitoring and controlling the Marine Contractor's activities, visit, brief, maintain a close liaison with contracted logistics Vessels and also have surprise safety audits, and j) Optimizes manpower resources to operate/maintain the Terminal structures and all equipment and carry out Periodic Maintenance of equipment.
k) Raise Marine defects in SAP 4.6 B version, so that the facilities / equipment are properly maintained and safe for operations.
l) Issue Safe Work Permit for eminence related works, liaise with maintenance group, and m) Carry out the Hydrographic Survey of the Port/Terminal.

Jetty Officer
Ports and Terminals, Gujarat, Jamnagar, India.

From 06 August 1999 to February 2000.
a) Operations of FMC Rotating Counter Weighted Marine arms, which work on Radio/local / remote control, including LPG Loading Arm, b) Operations of Various Jetty equipment like Gangway, Cranes, Slop Pumps shore, Fire Fighting Equipment and other electrical equipment related to Terminal Operations.
c) Cargo operations from shore to Ship and Ship to Shore lining up and operations of various MOV'S, d) Responsible as a Fire Officer to handle any emergency related to Fire at the Terminal, e) In Charge of Marine Mooring Supervisor and crews, house keeping crews and maintenance group.

Hydrographic Surveyor
Indian Navy. (June 1984 – July 1999)

In Indian Navy as Hydrographic Surveyor.

Served on board Naval Hydrographic Ships and carried out Hydrographic Surveys off East and West Coasts of India, coasts off Andaman and Nicobar Island and Sur Harbor.

As Chief Recorder I was responsible for supervision & management of staff and day – to - day jobs. I had carried out Hydrographic Survey of Cochin Harbor, monitored pre and post dredging surveys and calculated dredged quantity.

Other duties performed were:
a) Training Chief,
b) In Charge of bridge sounding team,
c) Independent Sounder in Survey Mortised boat,
d) Preparation of Fair sheet drawing, and
e) In Charge of Compilation of survey data.
