EXPERIENCE & ACHIEVEMENTS

(1986 - current)

Presently a Supply Chain Management Consultant for upcoming Mining, Oil/Gas and Power Projects in SE Asia. Obtaining information from Government Agencies, Suppliers and Transportation Companies for Feasibility Studies, using my Worldwide experience in Logistics and Procurement and my "hands on" knowledge of SE Asia.

Recent key Projects and Assignments have included:

Iraqi Currency Exchange Project - Logistics/Purchasing
(Iraqi Coalition Provisional Authority) 2003-2004

Procurement & Logistics Supervisor with responsibility for purchasing, from domestic/international suppliers, all project support equipment, including radios, uniforms, camp equipment, medical supplies, vehicle spare parts and material handling equipment. Also the distribution of 3,000 tonnes of "New Currency" to 320 Banks throughout Iraq and the collection of 7,000 tonnes of "Old Currency" for destruction in Baghdad, by road and air through three major hubs, using military escorts.

Undertook this assignment in a War Zone, encountering numerous problems, including the lack of escorts and ambushes, which impacted on the Project Schedule.
Addressed these issues by being flexible and creative, to meet the schedule. Also, through constant communication with others involved in the project, including Company Air Operations and US Military Weather Personnel.

Operation Iraqi Freedom - Personnel and Material Movements
(US Army Central Command) 2003

Supervised the movement of combat equipment and associated baggage, including heavy haul and 250,000 personnel in Kuwait and Iraq. All movements tracked with a bar code scanning system. Also responsible for in-country procurement of camp equipment and the administration of bus, truck and food service contracts. Received 3 Certificates of Appreciation from the US Army.

Challenges included working with a diverse range of drivers from numerous third world countries and obtaining advance notice of the upcoming large personnel movements in order to utilize all available equipment.

Addressed by building a strong relationship with key Military Personnel, the close supervision of the drivers and ensuring that local Truck/Bus Companies adhered to safety and maintenance programs.

Worldwide Drilling Equipment - Purchasing
(Exxon/Mobil) 2001-2002

Managed the worldwide purchase of state of the art, earthquake rated, zero discharge, oilrig drilling equipment and fully equipped pre-fabricated modules for an Artic environment within tight cost constraints and delivery schedules. The Offshore Drilling Rig will sit on a concrete island design structure and operate off the coast of Sakhalin Island, Russia.

Challenges included sourcing suppliers who were able to manufacture drilling equipment for this type of environment and could meet the delivery schedule, while remaining within budget.
Applied my worldwide procurement experience and the Internet to obtain information about the manufacturers. Issued "Equipment Package" Purchase Orders to obtain the lowest prices.

Refinery & Pipeline Automation - Purchasing
(ABB Industrial Systems) 1998-2000

Procurement Supervisor for Projects and Proposals specializing in the automation of refinery operations and offshore/onshore pipelines, primarily in Central and South America, including two $30m Oilfield Development Projects for BP in Southern Colombia. Responsible for purchasing electrical equipment, transformers, pipes, pumps, valves and fittings.

Successfully undertook the project, in a politically unstable environment, by applying my extensive purchasing expertise and skills in negotiating with suppliers. Administered local contracts, from award to completion, with a focus on contractor compliance and performance, using my language skills to communicate with them.

LNG Facility Renovation - Material Warehousing/Purchasing
(Bechtel) 1995-1997

Managed the Electrical, Instrument and Bulk Warehouse for an $830m (Exim Bank) project to renovate a Sonatrach LNG facility in Algeria. Designed and maintained a computerized Warehouse Material Tracking System, implemented safety and training programs. Responsible for local procurement of warehouse equipment, hand tools, steel buildings, vehicles, building materials and camp equipment. Administered customs clearance and inland transportation contracts.

Achieved, in a climate of political unrest and instability, through close supervision and training of warehouse staff and the monitoring of local suppliers, using my language skills to communicate with them.

Power Plant - Material Movements/Purchasing
(Joy Environmental) 1993-1994

Supervised the movement of material to power plant construction project locations, including a $150mm 550MW four unit power plant wet scrubber flue gas desulphurization air pollution control (World Bank) project for Taiwan Power. Also, responsible for vendor audit/ selection, bid evaluation, purchasing conveyor systems, electrical equipment, water treatment equipment, materials handling equipment, steel buildings and hoppers. Administering local subcontracts for customs clearance and inland transportation.

Needed to fast track the project, achieved by closely supervising local contractors and establishing a relationship with the Taiwanese Customs authorities, to accelerate the customs clearance process.

Copper Mine - Personnel & Material Movements/Purchasing
(P T Freeport Indonesia) 1991-1992

Supervised the movement of personnel and 240,000 tonnes of material a year from port to a copper mine up a 120 kilometer unimproved access road with a 29% gradient in the remote mountains of Eastern Indonesia. Implemented safety and training programs purchased material handling equipment and administered a maintenance contract with the Caterpillar regional facility.

Involved operating in remote mountainous area of Eastern Indonesia, with unfavorable weather conditions causing dangerous road conditions, which resulted in numerous accidents, injuries and constant truck repairs.
Addressed these issues by building positive relationships with the drivers, introducing driver safety and training programs, working closely with the road maintenance supervisor and introducing a rigorous program of truck maintenance.

Chemical Plant Expansion Projects - Logistics
(ARCO Chemicals) 1986-1990

Supervised material movements to project locations in Ulsan, Korea and a $625m facility expansion project in Texas; particularly the movement of over-dimensional heavy lifts (500 tonnes) by ocean - land transport from fabrication facilities in Japan, Korea and the US Gulf Coast. Significantly reduced erection time by ensuring that pressure vessels were fully fitted out before delivery to the sites and reduced freight costs by consolidating equipment purchase orders on charter vessels. Also responsible for vendor audit/selection, bid evaluation and purchasing freight contracts.

One movement comprising two 375 tonne reactors (33 ft. in diameter) from Kobe, Japan by barge and heavy lift vessel (under deck) to Houston, Texas, USA. Unloaded the reactors using ship's cranes, onto special heavy lift trailers on barges, which were taken to a roll off point to cross a main East-West Interstate Highway, which was closed to enable the task to be undertaken. The reactors were then taken across private property, railroad tracks and back onto barges on a river for transit to a newly constructed dock close to the Chemical Plant, from where they were rolled off and transported to the site. The transit from the Port of Houston to the site was completed within budget and a day ahead of schedule. This movement was recognized by the industry, as the Hauling Job of the Year, for its complexity, due to the size of the units, difficulties in accessing the site and the requirement for coordination between state, county and city authorities, the police, property owners and utility companies. Planning required almost six months.
