Chemicals Handled: Methanol, LPG, Ethylene, EDC, VCM.

Nature of Experience & responsibilities:
1. Unloading of Ethylene, Ethylene dichloride, Vinyl Chloride Monomer,
Methanol and LPG from sea carriers.
2. Storage of Ethylene at -103 oC and LPG at -28 oC
3. Road tanker filling of LPG.
4. Reliquification of ethylene and LPG.
5. Controlling of process parameters during ship unloading.
6. Daily feed and day to day stock management.
7. Tank and process equipment safety.
8. All kinds of safe work permit issuing and monitoring.
9. Documentation before and after ship unloading.
10. Monitoring of safe berthing and deberthing of International cargo ships.
Compressor & Pumps:
1. Centrifugal, multistage centrifugal & Reciprocating Pumps.
2. Liquid Injection Pumps.
3. Cryogenic multistage Pumps.
4. Reciprocating & Screw Compressors.
5. Gasification and Reliquification units.
ABOUT TERMINAL:
Ethylene, LPG and Ethylene dichloride are being unloaded from marine carriers, stored and supplied to production unit.
Ethylene in cryogenic form stored in two tanks having capacity of 5700 MT each. The tanks are double walled with suspended deck. Walls of the tanks are insulated by Perlite, deck by mineral wool and the bottom by foam glass. Inner dia of the tanks are 35.2 meter with the height of 11 meter.
Three Sulzer make two stage compressors and two Byron Jackson make 12 stage centrifugal pumps are available for continuous supply of ethylene to production unit where ethylene vapour is converted into EDC. Liquid ethylene is heated through series of exchangers and vapour sent to production unit.
Ethylene dichloride unloaded from marine oil tankers are stored in four tanks having capacity of 10,000 MT each. Since EDC storage tanks are at far away from jetty, it is pumped from terminal using booster pumps during ship unloading.
LPG in cryogenic form stored in two tanks having capacity of about 16,000 MT each. Four cryogenic pumps with the capacity of 46m3/hr are being used to pump out the LPG to the road tanker loading gantry area.
METHANOL unloaded from marine cargo ship tankers are stored in tank having capacity of 10,000 MT. It is pumped out to the tanker loading gantry for loading road tankers.
JETTY OPERATION:
At Jetty the unloading arms are made by FMC – consists of a riser, inboard and outboard arms with swivel joints. The arms are operated by means of hydraulic power.
(1) Supervising the safe berthing, deberthing of oil tankers, gas carriers such as Ethylene and LPG ships.
(2) Working as "LOADING INCHARGE"/"LOADING MASTER" during ship unloading.
(3) Co-ordination with chief officer and master of the ship to fill all safety related formats.
(4) Co-ordination with chief officer during cargo unloading.
(5) Monitoring any environmental pollution due to leakages / spillages during ship unloading and instructing concerned personnel to attend immediately.
(6) Documentation before and after cargo operations such as bill of lading, statement of facts, letter of protests etc.
(7) Supervising the unloading arm connection, leak testing, line setting, monitoring the unloading activities with pressuring and rate of unloading etc.
(8) Purging of unloading arm before and after completion of cargo operation.
(9) Carrying out joint ship – shore drills, exercise related to safety, ISPS etc.
(10) Actively participated in LPG plant commissioning and startup, as well as plant troubleshooting.
TERMINAL OPERATION:
(1) Monitoring ethylene and LPG tank pressure, temperature (Ethylene being stored in cryogenic form i.e. at – 103 oC and slightly above the atmospheric pressure, and LPG being stored in cryogenic form i.e. at – 2 oC to - 30 oC depending upon the butane, propane mixture and slightly above the atmospheric pressure)
(2) Vapourisation of ethylene and LPG using series of exchangers.
(3) Reliquification of ethylene using Freon R22.
(4) Supply of ethylene to the process unit using vapouriser / compressor.
(5) Operating the above activities through DCS system.
(6) Instructing the operators to do scheduled leak tests at ethylene tank, compressor, heater and pump areas.
(7) Presently working as " SHIFT IN CHARGE" of terminal and Jetty.
(8) Handing over the rotating equipments such as pumps, compressors to service department after safe changeover and proper purging.
(9) Safe plant shutdown and startup within power failure and after power restoration.
(10) Safe shutting down of plant during planned shut down.
(C) PROJECT:
Worked in LPG plant commissioning and presently working in VCM storage and unloading project work. Prepared pre-commissioning and commissioning procedure. Closely monitoring the pipeline and tanks, road tanker gantry erection work.
( D) MISCELLANEOUS:
Terminal and Jetty are ISO 9001 ; 2000 (KPMG) and ISO 14001 (TUV) certified
(1) Working as "QUALITY ASSURANCE IN CHARGE" of the terminal for
ISO 9001: 2000.
(2) Certified by "RAM safety Consultancy as "Lead auditor – Quality assurance".
(3) Working as Coordinator for internal and external audits related to ISO 9001: 2000.
(4) Arranging Management Review Meeting, preparing agenda, attending the meeting, preparing the MOM and following up the action plan.
(5) Monitoring the implementation of ISO 9001: 2000 in terminal and jetty.
(6) Conducting internal training classes to operators.
(7) Leading Member of "Plant safety committee".
(8) Issuing of all safe work permits and monitoring the work along with personnel safety.
(9) Working as Site Incident Controller and taking action as per On site Emergency Plan during emergency.
