Highly experienced engineering and environmental project manager, with over 13 years of expertise in industry, environmental, health and safety management, environmental and social assessment, regulatory issues, community and government affairs, corporate social responsibility and policy development. Peter is a qualified environmental professional, being a Full Member, Chartered Environmentalist and professional qualifications assessor of the UK Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (CEnv, MIEMA). He is also a Professional Engineer (Chartered Engineer) with the UK Institution of Civil Engineers (CEng, MICE) and a Member of the Association of Municipal Engineers.

Peter's career has involved working with leading companies and organisations in a number of industries internationally, leading complex projects and programmes. His experience also includes fulfilling leadership roles in key initiatives such as the Global Mining Initiative and the World Mines Ministries Forum.

Currently Core Environmental Engineer for the Jamnagar Export Refinery Project, working as an independent consultant to Bechtel. The Jamnagar Project is the world's largest refinery project, where Peter is responsible for environmental compliance, environmental design, engineering and management, and specific programmes such as effluent managment, air emissions compliance and noise modelling.

Significant experience of working at international level with organisations such as the World Bank and International Finance Corporation (IFC), UN agencies and national governments. His most recent government role being Private Sector Infrastructure Adviser with the UK Department for International Development (DFID). Prior to this he was Infrastructure and Environment Adviser and First Secretary, Development in DFID's India programme, where he was responsible for a project portfolio of over US$274 million. His work involved supervision and management of ongoing programmes, development of new programmes and providing policy and technical advice to the India programme. His core responsibilities included environmental policy and management, linking environment to social development and poverty reduction, urban governance, water resources and power sector reform. This role involved significant liaison and negotiation with government at all levels, including Federal Government Ministries, State Government Ministries, and local government institutions at district and municipality levels.

Extensive international experience, having lived and worked in India, Central Asia, the Former Soviet Union and Europe. He is a highly motivated and adaptable professional, combining in-depth experience and understanding of social, environmental and sustainable development expertise with a wide range of experience in different countries and different types of organisation both in industry and the public sector.
Peter has significant experience of working at international level with organisations such as the World Bank and International Finance Corporation (IFC), UN agencies and national governments.

* 1999 to 2006: UK Government Department for International Development (DFID)

Private Sector Infrastructure Adviser, International & Financial Institutions Department, DFID London.
Peter is responsible for technical oversight and management of a new portfolio of investment facilities designed to leverage private finance into infrastructure projects and programmes in developing countries. These include project preparation facilities, project finance facilities and multi-donor funds involving European Government donors, the World Bank and IFC.

Infrastructure and Environment Adviser, DFID India.
Peter was lead advisor for a programme portfolio of over US$274 million covering, urban governance, water, environment power sector reform. Achievements of programmes for which Peter had lead responsibility include extending water and sanitation services to over 1.8 million people in 14 states; significantly improving urban management in 32 cities across India; and reducing power sector losses by US$430 million over three years.

Environmental Engineering and Geoscience Adviser, DFID Headquarters, London.
Peter was responsible for developing DFID's environmental policy and liaison with industry; and environmental oversight of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia programme. Achievements include establishing stakeholder fora for the Global Mining Initiative, establishing the Communities and Small-scale Mining environmental initiative, leading the Business Partners for Development initiative, and acting as UK representative on the OECD Environmental Action Programme Task Force and the EU Danube and Black Sea Task Force (which are part of the Environment for Europe process).

* 1996-1999: ERT Caspian, Baku, Azerbaijan

Environmental Engineering Manager.
Principal environmental consultant covering a wide range of environmental assessment and management issues and health and safety management (including hazardous materials management and waste management and disposal) in the minerals and oil and gas sector in Central Asia. Achievements include establishing and licensing the first international standard hazardous waste disposal facility in the Caspian region, securing environmental permits for exploration operations and designing and licensing pollution control systems for drilling operations in sensitive environments.
