1. BPCL: From Nov.1998.

A. Distillation unit: It is a simple atmospheric distillation unit having multi column operation. The products like LPG,NAPTHA,KEROSENE,HSD AND LR are generated in this unit by crude distillation

B. Vacuum Distillation Unit: In this unit the raw material(waxy) for the catalytic cracking unit is produced by using LR In vacuum column the vacuum is maintained upto 760mm of water column by means of steam ejector.

C. Sulphur Recovery Unit: In this unit the sulphur recovers from HSD for the requirement of EURO III grade diesel. The plant has been designed to convert all sulfur compounds present in the acid gas feeds into elemental liquid sulfur.

D. Catalytic Cracking Unit: The waxy is cracked by means of catalyst Alumina Silica and produces LPG, Gasoline, Diesel component.

Presently I am working as a "Field Operator" in the Distillation Unit

I. System Walk Down. Listing Punch Points.
II. Pre start up Safety Review,
III. Loop checks of Process lines as per P&ID, MF's.
IV. Loop check of Instrumentation/Transmitter.
V. Stroke checks/calibration of Control Valve,
VI. Interlock/Permissive checks,
VII. Lining up of Utility & supportive system.
VIII. Pressure Purging / Dry out of system to achieve Design Dew points & Oxygen freeing.
IX. System Pressure test at operating pressure.
X. Charging of Hydrocarbon into system & startup
I. Responsible for stable operation of Distillation unit.
II. Carry out routine activity in co-ordination with Panel operators.
III. Co-ordinates between Maintenance/Instruments & other service departments.
IV. Co-Ordinate with upstream as well down stream units, Utilities during normal/abnormal situations.
V. Always aim to stay in operating limits to abide Environmental limits, by avoiding Emission, Flaring etc.
VI. Keeps follow up of Daily Operating / Standinging Instruction, Recurring Duties.
VII. SAP notification for chemical Inventories, maintenance jobs.
VIII. Develop & modify What if scenarios

JOB DESCRIPTION

1. Responsible for activities as per specified work procedure in a section of the plant. Required to work in rotating shifts under the control of shift superintendent / engineer.
2. Takes round of the units in the beginning and end of shift to ensure smooth takeover/handing over. Will ensure proper take over from existing operator at the beginning of the shifts and will not leave his work place before handing over to the new operator at the end of the shift.
3. Checks rotary equipments, safety valves, levels, vents, drain etc. periodically.
4. Fills up log books, material transfer calculation etc.
5. Carries out operational activities like lining up/changeover of equipments / tankage etc. in consultation with shift Supdt. / control room.
6. Ensure process sampling for quality control as per schedule. Interacts with shift Supdt. And QC Lab for follow up and operational adjustments. May be required as per work procedure to carryout/monitor on line sampling analysis.
7. Attends to non routine activities like re-start up/shut-down/emergency trip. Ensures safety and minimizes loss of throughputs, in such jobs.
8. Attends to minor breakdowns, maintenance/repairs like attending to leakages from flanges/hose connection, lubrication, diagnosis of problems changing strainers/filters etc.
9. Attends to addition of chemicals, draining, emptying of vessels etc.
10. During preventive/breakdown maintenance on running equipments or standby, responsible as owner's representative for proper procedures, precautions and close out. Interacts with safety/maintenance/contractors and as far as possible, is present on location. Hands over equipments for maintenance in clean and safe condition. Puts the equipment in operation after checking for proper completion of job and that all its auxiliary safety systems are in order.
11. In case of plant turn around or major maintenance, ensures proper flushing, isolation and checkouts. Handing over of equipments to maintenance.
12. Responsible for coaching of maintenance/contractor, about the Hazards / MSDS of Chemicals & precaution to be taken while handling them.
13. Responsible for Training / coaching Junior staff, New Apprentice, & National staff.
14. Responsible for house keeping and cleanliness of the section assigned.
15. Responsible for following safety, & to conduct Safety Audit, BST observation. Preparation of Job Safety Analysis, Job Safety Plan for planned & unplanned jobs.
16. Follows specified procedure for personal safety and plant fire and safety particulars in mock drills.
17. Worked as a Member of Emergency response team, Safety coach, & holds certificate of Advance Diploma in Industrial Safety by Technical board Maharashtra India.
18. Responsible for smooth running of unit, Co-ordinates between field operator & superiors to achieve production goal keeping contact with upstream/down stream units at the same time. Well conversant with Centum3000 DCS system.
19. If assigned to work up, assists Sr. Engineer for process activities to be carried out periodically or based on shift logs such as arranging for catalysts, chemicals, changing/draining/disposing, sampling of effluents, monitoring etc. Arrange the service department help for planned / unplanned jobs & keep follow up of it.
20. During pre-commissioning, carries out activities as instructed.
