Personal Statement:
I am currently a serving Fire Officer with Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service (UK Metropolitan Brigade), having achieved the rank of Watch Manager.
During my twelve year career I have attended the full range of emergency incidents including large, multi-pump commercial/industrial fires, domestic fires, many different RTC incidents, railway incidents, ship and marine incidents, rope rescue incidents, water rescue incidents and hazmat incidents. I am fully trained in the full range of modern fire-fighting and rescue techniques.

I have served at a number of stations covering a multitude of risks including extensive port facilities (Liverpool Dock Estate), oil terminals, chemical works and major urban developments including numerous high-rise and large public buildings.

I have also served at Service Headquarters on the Operational Equipment Team, testing and evaluating new items of equipment, investigating equipment failures and producing Standard Operating Procedures. I was responsible for the successful introduction of a major upgrade to out bulk foam capabilities.

I am currently seeking a new challenge offering variety in a new environment with enhanced renumeration and advancement prospects. I am willing to travel on an unaccompanied basis to undertake contracts wherever required.

Current Position:

1996 to Present. Fire Officer (Watch Manager since 2007),
Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service.
Role involves the command of a team of operational Fire-fighters, at the full range of emergency incidents. I also organise and control the normal daily activities of the watch, with the support of a junior officer, and have particular responsibility for watch administration, training and health and safety. I oversee the standard testing, maintenance and cleaning of appliances, equipment and the station. I manage and implement a training programme and initiate and arrange operational intelligence and risk visits. I undertake risk assessments, both dynamic and planned, on a daily basis. I have an overview of the welfare and attendance records of the watch. I play an active part in conducting community fire safety visits and liaise with the local community and other agencies to deliver the fire safety message. I undertake continuous professional development and regularly attend training in all aspects of operational incidents. I complete fire reports, special service reports and all appropriate health and safety documentation.

Early Career: From school (1987) I joined the Royal Navy serving for two years as a Seaman Officer. I then went on to spend several years in the construction industry working as a Quantity Surveyor and Estimator.
I also spent several months in 1994 working as a deck hand on a yacht in
Australasia and the Southern Ocean.

Leisure Activities and Interests:

Family: Wife Alex and three boys – Archie (4), George(2) and Freddie born 07.01.08.

I enjoy playing rugby (and associated socialising), sailing, gyming, cycling, hill-walking and occasional climbing.
