Process Technician

Domgas/Fractionation DCS Using a Honeywell DCS for the control of: - Domgas Plant, Fractionation, ship loading, high and low pressure fuel gas, drainage and effluent system.

Stabilisation to remove sufficient light end components from the liquid feed to produce a stabilised product suitable for atmospheric storage.

Dehydration dries natural gas from the Trunkline Onshore Terminal and overhead vapour from the stabilisers, before it enters the Domgas Extraction Unit. Drying prevents hydrate formation in extraction and to meet the sales gas specification.

Extraction removes liquid hydrocarbons from the process gas and delivers the nominated domestic gas to the Alinta and Epic Gas pipelines at contracted spec and pressure

Metering accurately measures and records the composition of the domestic gas product before it enters the pipelines. Automatically calculated data provides the mass flow rate; high heating value, Wobbe Index, dew point and specific gravity of the product to ensure contractual obligations are met.

High Pressure Fuel Gas System, provides fuel for the onshore plant, it consists of two independent distribution systems, fuel gas and diesel fuel. Fuel gas is used for all normal operating conditions, while diesel is used in "black start" and emergency situations. A pressure reducing station is used to lower the pressure for low pressure users.

The Drainage and Effluent Treating System consists of three areas, Oil-free Rainwater System, Oil Contaminated Water System and a Domestic Sewerage System.

Fractionation separate components of LPGs, LNGs and Process refrigerant for the LNG trains refrigeration systems and remove any remaining condensate from the LPGs and send it to condensate storage.

Condensate and LPG loading consisting of a tank farm for the storage of LPG and condensate a Boil of Gas plant for re-liquefaction of flashed off gas from the stored LPGs.

Plant includes reciprocating compressors, molecular sieve beds, and expanders; frame 3 and 6 gas turbines with centrifugal compressors, de-ethanisers, de-propanisers, de-butanisers and gas chromatographs

Process Operator

Ammonia Plant is a continuous process. The front end of the plant is a gas reforming plant where natural gas undergoes hydrogen reforming and undesirables such as sulfur CO and CO² are converted and removed ready for the high pressure conversion loop in the back end of the plant. Equipment in this plant includes two high pressure process boilers, a medium pressure package boiler, a 1mw hydraulic turbine and a water polishing unit. The back end of the plant consists of a high pressure conversion loop where a mixture of nitrogen and hydrogen are converted to ammonia. The refrigeration section condenses out the ammonia and it is sent off to storage. Unconverted Hydrogen is recovered and sent back into the conversion loop and inerts are removed and burnt in the waste flare. Equipment in the plant include a Mitsubishi steam turbine driven 3 stage centrifugal gas compressor steam turbine driven 7.6 MW TA set and 6 stage centrifugal air compressor and a 2 stage rotary screw ammonia compressor. Liquefaction and storage where the stored ammonia is sent to customers exported and vapors off the storage tanks are recompressed condensed and sent back to storage equipment includes rotary screw compressors.

Ammonia Chloride plant using a Batch process adding raw materials to a reactor and then followed by a cooling, settling and filtration process. Sodium Xanthate plant and Sodium Metham plant are also batch processes where caustic carbon disulfide and alcohols are reacted to achieve the desired chemical reaction. The white Hydrate plant is a Continuous process where alumina is digested into caustic liquor and reacted with seed to produce White Hydrate the product is then washed, ground and packaged. Monitoring and operation of plants is done using Scada DCS. Outside operations include the safe running, shutting down, isolation, cleaning of equipment, sampling and testing of product, loading of raw materials from isotainers and drums and packaging product in drums, bags and sea container. Plant includes: water treatment, air and nitrogen compressors, boiler package, filtration, grinding, water separation plant and bagging plants

Process Operator

Anaconda produce Nickel and Cobalt using a high pressure ore leaching process using Autoclaves, high pressure positive displacement pumps and pressure let down vessels. The ore is further processed using counter current distillation and h2so4 injection.
The process is controlled on a Yokagowa DCS System. My duties included the monitoring, isolation and fault finding of plant, sampling product and maintaining a clean safe plant. Plant included: ball mill, Autoclaves, high pressure positive, displacement pumps, and thickeners.

For 6 years I was employed as a Shift Supervisor of a production shift team and was responsible for maintaining the day to day running of a production plant. My duties included the co-ordination of the shift including training, safety and communication meetings, arranging leave. Ensuring operation inside the ISO 9002 & 14001 guidelines.

OUTSIDE AREAS
Coke & Ore handling involving Allen Bradley P.L.C, Conveyors, Bucket Elevators & Pneumatic Transfer Systems.
Chlorination: the synthetic rutile and petroleum coke is reacted with chlorine in Fluid Bed Reactors and its state is changed to Titanium Tetrachloride
Condensation & Purification: This area uses heat exchangers, condensing columns, reboilers and treatment reactor to condense and purify the product before scrubbing waste gases. Waste gases are incinerated, scrubbed and vented.
Vaporisers: Tube bundle heat exchanges are used to vaporize product and other dry chemicals are added in preparation for Oxidation.
Sealers & Oxidation: The vapourised product is further heated in Sealers Furnaces, before being fed into high temperature oxidizer tube reactors with super heated oxygen the reaction is supported using vaporized toluene.
Recovery: This area involves the recovery, cleaning & compression of chlorine gas released in the oxidation process for re-use in chlorination.
Waste Treatment: Run on a Scada DCS system Involving effluent netralisation, thickening, filtration using high pressure candle filters, centrifuge, high pressure water pumps, vacuum pumps, flocculation system.

SAFETY & COSULTATIVE COMMITTEE MEMBER
Duties include addressing safety and personnel concerns and problems on the plant and communicating the "gain share" system to the shifts.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM MEMBER.
Trained in fire fighting, chemical spill contaminant, rescue and First Aid with current first aid ticket. B.A trained and internal fire rescue training at Perth Airport & BP Refinery.
