Thesis: A Geochemical Model of the Solution-Mineral Equilibria within a Sandstone Reservoir (1997)
M.Sc. thesis research was a study of the effects of chemical interactions of drilling fluid filtrates, stimulation fluids, etc., with formation connate fluid compositions and the relation to potential formation damage. The geochemical systems that were modeled were developed from analyses of the petrography/mineralogy of reservoir rock constituents and connate pore fluid and invasion fluid compositions.

Note that Dr. Faruk Civan of the University of Oklahoma requested and received permission to include a considerable amount of material from this M.Sc. thesis in his recent definitive textbook on formation damage, Reservoir Formation Damage (Gulf Publishing, 2000). Dr. Civan used almost 40 pages, or more than 5% of the total volume of his textbook, to discuss the thorough, but intuitive, geochemical model that was presented for the first time in this M.S. thesis.

High level of competence with computer equipment and engineering software: Modern versions of Microsoft Office Professional, Microsoft Project, Lotus Smartsuite, Corel Wordperfect Office, TK Solver, and other software are all loaded up on desktop and notebook computers to conform to clients' word processing, spreadsheet, database, graphics, project management, and other software requirements.

Besides having access to many industry software programs, numerous, complex spreadsheet programs have been personally written to assist in casing design, triaxial load analysis, buckling analysis, BHA/drill string design, hydraulics calculations/optimization, surge/swab calculations, drilling rig utilization, cement design/volume calculations, drilling fluid volume/material usage, well control, PVT calculations, AFE preparation, bid evaluation analysis, etc.

Complete reference library set up in home office, consisting of a complete, extensive set of petroleum engineering, mechanical engineering, geology, geophysics, chemistry, advanced mathematics, and other technical text books and references, TH Hill DS-1 Standards, API bulletins, API specifications, API recommended practices, IADC drilling manual, well control manuals, environmental standards, composite catalogs, etc. Extensive collection of copies and/or digital files of drilling reports, mud recaps, mud logs, digital log data, etc., from numerous wells drilled in Bolivia and northern Argentina, as well as in the U.S. Rocky Mountains. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

I have a unique background, starting in the drilling industry as a floorhand and eventually working my way up to drilling superintendent. After more than 20 years working for various drilling contractors, with over 10 years serving as toolpusher or drilling superintendent, I left the industry to study, earning a B.Sc. degree in Geology and a M.Sc. degree in Petroleum Engineering. Since completion of the graduate coursework in 1994, I have worked as a consultant Drilling Manager and/or Drilling Engineer for several clients on projects in various countries.

My background and education have given me the knowledge and experience to develop into a complete drilling hand, capable of analyzing, designing, and executing difficult drilling/completion projects. This background also has allowed me to communicate effectively with drilling hands and other personnel in the field, and also to be capable of discussing technical issues with geologists and engineers in office settings. Perhaps the most important key to achieving successful operations is developing and maintaining good communications between all personnel involved in the project.
