CAREER: EHS/Fire Training Officer with Ras Gas since May 1998 to date:

Job description:
Develop, plan, co-ordinate, conduct, and provide follow-up, for safety and fire training courses for RasGas personnel, contractors and visitors to the company's facilities and also directs and controls the activities of the RasGas EHS/EMS Training School and Fire Station in providing all the required level of fire, safety and first aid training to meet established Company objectives. Directs and controls activities of subordinate personnel during emergency response incidents.

Key Result Areas:
* Develops and conducts safety and fire related training courses for RasGas personnel, contractors and visitors to the company's facilities.
* Establishes pass/fail criteria for safety training courses where appropriate. Develops and administers testing.
* Co-ordinates the provision of special training courses with the EMS Training Officer, outside consultants and safety training organizations to cover areas of safety and fire training not covered by the section activities.
* Leads the development of Operations Safety & Fire training policies and procedures.
* Develops and updates safety& Fire training matrices, schedules and course information. Establishes and implements frequency of refresher courses.
* Assists with the development and maintenance of computer based safety & Fire training records and the production of certificates and cards attesting the successful completion of safety training courses.
* Recommends and assists with the procurement of safety training materials and aids including audio and visual equipment, video tapes, classroom furnishings, basic and specialized personal protective equipment and monitoring equipment. Develops and implements preventive maintenance schedules for training equipment.
* Provides input, with justifications, for the development of the Safety and Loss Prevention budget. Monitors performance against approved levels in own area and pays particular attention to variances.
* Keeps abreast of international developments in safety training for possible benefit of the company.
* Participates in the delivery of training and development programs for Qatari developees in area of safety training.
* Ensures adherence to all EHS policies, procedures and standards to safeguard company personnel and assets.
* Participates in the implementation of ISO 9000 Series Quality Management systems and concepts.
Operating Environment, Framework and Boundaries:
Responsibilities and work activities are mainly carried out in the purpose built US$ 1.5 million Fire Training Centre, but regularly extend to all areas of the onshore LNG plant facilities, the offshore installations and port areas.
Work approach is dictated to a large extent by local and international statutory and regulatory codes and standards.
Communications and Working Relationships:
Regular contact with Civil Defence officials, Police and emergency services, Qatar Gas and Ras Laffan Industrial City representatives to establish and co-ordinate fire safety procedures for responding to emergency incidents at the plant, offshore or offsite, and for the planning and execution of emergency exercises.
Daily contact with Head of EHS to discuss training matters.
Regular contact with managerial and supervisory staff, Company-wide, to co-ordinate delivery of training programs.
Problem Solving/Complexity:
In the training function, operates within clearly defined company policies, though contributes to the development of these.
Team leading emergency response teams requires independent decision making up to agreed levels, before referral to higher authority is mandatory.
Decision Making Authority and Responsibility:
Works according to Company's established standards and procedures. Exercises independent decision making, up to predetermined level of seriousness, when team-leading response to emergency incident.
