BACKGROUND;
I am a highly self-motivated person and very enthusiastic about my work, thrive on challenge and like to achieve positive results.

I am currently employed as Port Operations Supervisor at Worsley Alumina Pty Ltd in Bunbury. I was employed during the construction phase of the new Port facility, contributing to commissioning the plant and now operations. I have been employed with Worsley for 15 months. Prior to Worsley I worked for Comalco for 9.5 years, with 9 of those years in leadership roles. During this time I was seconded to Indonesia to assist in investigating fatalities occurring in the Company's coal mining activities. I worked in all areas of the process and conducted quality training of National people to improve the way they work including a clear understanding of consequences of actions. Prior to this I worked in the aviation industry for Lloyd Helicopters, servicing the off shore production and drill platforms off the Pilbara coast. I am a boilermaker/ fitter by trade and have spent time working in exploration, mining, refining, contracting and aviation industries.

The transition from commissioning to operational readiness in my current and previous Role provided the opportunity to build a team culture that has the highest regard for safety and have taken full ownership of our systems and areas of accountability. During commissioning my role included the coordination of many internal and external parties including Contractors, Reliability, Port Authority, Ship's Pilots, Harbour Master and the Construction Contractor. Building good relationships with these people was (and still is) an important fact of commissioning. This required me to use initiative and innovative approaches to achieve outcomes. The majority of our tasks had no set procedures, I was instrumental in development of our procedures and coaching of my team to do the same for all of our tasks.

I have excellent leadership skills including all aspects of training, team development and assessment, meeting targets, budgeting, process improvement, reliability planning, contractor management and lead by example in setting a high regard for work ethics and safety expectations. I have excellent interpersonal skills and love working in a team environment. I have experience in the development of procedures including hazard/risk analysis. My computer skills are solid and I currently use the SAP system for incident reporting, procurement and budget control.

I have practical experience with most aspects of all materials handling including Honeywell, Experion and Citec control systems, lime, coal, extensive bauxite experience including refining, tailings, railway operations, ship loading/unloading, caustic discharge and transfer and sea water transfer with chemical dosing.
I am currently learning Bahasa Indonesian and understand enough of the language to get by on.
I am a quick and thorough learner and believe I would be a valuable asset to any prospective employer.
I trust you will give me the opportunity to discuss my experience and suitability for the role in person and am excited by the prospect of working in a similar environment once again. Should you require any further information or would like to discuss my work history further, please don't hesitate to contact me. I hope you will consider my application favourably and I look forward to hearing from you. A list of referees is available on request.

Respectfully yours,

Daren Higgins
