- MECHANISED UNDERGROUND MINING

A. ELECTRICAL POWER GENERATION

-Repair and maintenance of 120MVA and 220MVA generator sets. Work on these sets mainly included the brush gear set, rotor resistance and insulation tests, generator star point checks including changing of protection CTs, neutral earthing resistors/transformers, hydrogen plant and drier systems. Repair and maintenance of the equipment and control of the auxiliary equipment such as DC emergency pumps, seal oil systems, barring gear systems and their interface with the digital control system of the operator.
-Repair and maintenance of excitation sets of the above including replacement of faulty thyristors and control modules and cards up to component level. Commissioning of the excitation set after major overhaul.
-Maintenance of HV transformers up to 330KV/240MVA.Here on load checks are carried out including oil sampling and testing. Carry out on load diverter switches and tap changer repairs. Changing LV and HV bushings as well as attending to oil leaks.
-Maintenance and servicing of breakers up to 11kv.These include ACBs, VCBs and SF6 breakers. Carry out contact resistance tests, attend to faulty control circuit and the interface to the digital control system.
-Actuator repairs: repairing and replacing faults control cards.The actuator types included mainly AUMA,EMG and ROTOK range. Also worked on some pneumatic actuators as well.
-Ac and dc motor overhauls.
-Maintenance and repairs of battery chargers and batteries.
-Familiar with different protection schemes for generators, transformers, bus bars and feeders.
-Use of computerised Maintenance Management System(MMS).
-Knowledge of project planning.

B ELECTRICAL POWER TRANSMISSION

- Installation, commissioning and testing of
Relays which include distance relays, differential relays,
Over current and earth fault relays using Omicron Test set and secondary injection test set.
-Fault level calculations and relay co-ordination
-Power quality measurement and analysis to include (SCADA and RTU)
-Underground cable fault location
-Carry out transformer tests, these include turns ratio test, insulation resistance tests, winding resistance tests, transformer instruments tests i.e bulchoz and temperature instruments
-Carry out point to point wiring checks on new and refurbished circuits and checking conformity of schematics.
-Diverter continuity tests
-Carry out CT, VT; CVT tests here would carry out primary injection ratio check, magnetisation curves and CVTs ratio checks.
-Carry out tests on and maintain compansating equipment.

C LARGE SURFACE MINING

-Repair and maintenance of conveyor switchgear and accessories.
-Repairs and maintenance of vibratory feeders, ploughs and screens.
-Repair and maintenance of drills, dragline and shovels.
-Repair and maintenance of welding machines and workshop equipment.
-Repairing of damaged cables.
-Setting up of power reticulation for electrical equipment stated above.

D. MECHANISED UNDERGROUND MINING
-Repair and maintenance of conveyor switchgear and accessories of flameproof and intrinsically safe equipment.
-Repair and maintenance of continuous miners, shuttle cars, drill rigs, feeder breaker and their respective switchgear.
-Maintenance of 3,3kv to 11kv air-cooled transformers.
-Cable joining of trailing cable – use of HV pressure tests
-Maintenance and repair of underground communication system.
-Repair and maintenance of mine ventilation fans.
-Battery charger repairs and maintenance.

MAJOR PROJECTS INVOLVED IN

-Setting up power reticulation and commissioning of a new mine.
-Upgrade of controls in the generation system of Hwange Power Station from manual control to digital control system.
